This is one of the prettiest paintings I’ve seen on Yupo. I’ve had this paper and really did not know how to work with it. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you!
Thanks Janis! I'm planning to post a short series of tutorials on my website very soon! You can sign up to hear when it goes live here: mailchi.mp/aquilawatercolor/wc-super-supplies
Lovely! I did my first ink painting on Yupo last night ...the second one didnt work well...I think I will fix the second one with my Ink tense pencils! Thank you for the idea! Your painting is beautiful!🌻
@@aquilawatercolor 🖌🎨Thank you! I actually ended using acrylic on the Yupo with black waterproof ink and Liquitex acrylic inks. After changing it completely, It worked!
Oh man, I'm sorry Gail, that's a bummer! I paint directly onto the paper, and that should work for you too. I would make sure you are using Yupo brand paper and high quality watercolors, like M Graham, Daniel Smith, Holbein, or American Journey. Derwent Inktense pencils work beautifully on Yupo paper as well.
are you using translucent yupo to see your image through. as I have the regular yupo and I cannot see the image to transfer onto it. Does that make sense? help
I'm not using translucent Yupo, but you certainly can try that! For this to work, you have to tape the tracing and the Yupo paper onto a window, so the outside light shines through and you can see your image enough to trace it. I explain the process best in this video: ua-cam.com/video/6qMKDnrmHT0/v-deo.html Happy painting Ann-Marie!
@@aquilawatercolor Hi there again. getting excited to start thank you for your tips. One more question Do you put a finishing spray on your watercolor paintings?

Hi Patricia! As of right now, I do not seal them. I used to use Golden spray varnish, which worked decently, but not well enough to keep using it. I've seen people mount them to panels and seal them with resin, so that is an option!
@@patriciaflesner2894 I just tried a new finish for Yupo- and it works wonderfully! I mount the Yupo (a heavier Yupo paper) to a wood panel, using Golden soft gel medium- I'm making a video soon about how I do this- then I cover the front and sides with Dorlands Wax medium. It worked wonderfully to protect the painting and deepen the colors. However, I wouldn't recommend using the wax medium unless you fuse the painting to a hard surface. This way the painting will not be flexible, and the finish will stay nice. Happy painting!
I have two videos all about how I mount and finish my watercolors here: ua-cam.com/video/rHJRz-6SLhI/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/CDAcaeOhfCk/v-deo.html Happy painting!
I should mention that I don't recommend using the above mounting method for Yupo paper. Yupo is probably best displayed under glass with some breathing space between the painting and the glass.

My paint is just beading, did you wet the paper or treat it first?
