    The San Diego Padres want their fans to pack the stands at Petco Park during the National League division series, and they're trying to block anyone else from showing up.
    On Thursday, a note showed up for anyone attempting to buy tickets to the NLDS series between the Friars and Los Angeles Dodgers. It's safe to say, the Padres don't want anyone from Los Angeles in their stadium next week.
    The Padres and Dodgers open their series on Saturday and Sunday in L.A. and will be back in San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday and, if necessary, Game 4 on Wednesday.

      MLB playoffs favors wild card teams over divisional winners as the two teams playing in the World Series are always wild card teams. It is a disadvantage in baseball to win the division as you want to be a wild card team than a divisional winner. By playing in the wild card round you arrive into the divisional series with momentum playing against a rusty and out of form divisional winner. 100% chance ALCS and NLCS will be Mets vs Padres and Tigers vs Royals

    A friendly reminder that many teams have done this, including the Orioles, Yankees and Braves. It's less so to block visiting fans from purchasing tickets, and more so to prevent out-of-area ticket brokers from scooping up tickets and then reselling them above face value.

      No it’s not . This just a terrible excuse to not let the opposing team to take over the stadium. Do you even know how expensive playoff tickets are ?! To buy a bunch and re-sell them ? • @MedicNYC
      @MedicNYC День тому +6

      If that's true, then we need to crack down on ticket brokers, something that should have been done ages ago. Every person should have the same access, same price, etc. when you buy or from where your billing address is, should have nothing to do with it. We are letting corporations decide market value instead of the market setting it.
      I'm glad I gave up going to games after the 1994 strike. Baseball hasn't been as much fun since then. But the sport shouldn't matter. Consumers also have to stop giving permission to orgs to rip them and other consumers off. Consumers hold the power to dictate value and rules.

      @@RealityHurts923 I have watched all games when Dodgers came to town and even attended a Padres-Dodger game. It is far from the truth. Dodgers fans on their peak were only 45 % of all the stadium and that game was the one that included the parade. Most of the time, it was just 35 % Dodgers fans and afternoon games were even lower to 20 %. Another difference is that most Dodgers fans often leave the stadium early (especially when they're losing) which makes the stadium go almost 90% Padres fans by the end of the games. Calling Petco Park as Dodger Stadium South is far from the truth.
      Interestingly, when Padres played at the Dodger Stadium, Padres fans filled up at least 15 - 20 % of Dodger Stadium and during the last series, it was as high as 35 % Padres fans. This means that nowadays Dodgers fans fill up Petco Park in the same capacity as Padres fans can fill up Dodger Stadium.

    I agree with the posts that state this is a common practice as many teams have done it. I attended a Padres-Dodgers game in San Diego a few seasons ago. It was my first game ever at Petco Park and while the place was packed, it appeared there were as many Dodger's fans as there were Padres'. The jumbotron had the "Beat LA" chant going but the "Let's go Dodgers" chants were at least as loud. It made me wonder if Padres' fans are as willing as LA fans to make the drive to see their team. One thing I think the Padres could do is, if we split the series in LA and are guaranteed a game 4, open the sales the day before the game. If Padres fans haven't purchased their tickets by then, perhaps we can get extra butts in seats. Yeah, it's Dodger Blue (🤮) but the county benefits from their dollars just the same.

    Bodie, I respectfully disagree with this take as someone who is an NJ Devils fan in hockey and regularly sees Rangers fans take over our building in playoff games. It violates the idea of a free market and it just comes off as MASSIVELY insecure by owners. They're afraid their fans won't buy tickets unless it's offered for dirt cheap to Padres fans. They had a super high percentage of sellouts this year and if Dodgers fans get the tickets before they do, you’re not rewarding your fan base to who came out the entire year also, people like to resell these things, and if people are going to sell them on the secondary market, we’d rather Padres fans make the money then Dodgers fans.

    Does San Diego want people from LA spending their money there? Maybe, but Petco can only hold ~42,000 people so they want 42,000 spending their money and, if they can keep their home field advantage safe, then they might have 3 or 6 more games with another 42k people each game if they can continue.
