For follow musicians/drummers/beat makers who are wondering : BPM : 100 A cycle is 5 bars long A bar is 7 beats long ( 7/4 ) You can hear 2 cycles in the intro, the 2nd starts at 0:21. There are 9 cycles in all the track. You can hear the last cycle at 2:48. And the key is a fucking ridiculously simple A minor. Melody : E1, E2, A0, C2, G1, E2, D1, A1, F2, F1, E2, E1, D2, B1, E2, D1, F1, E2, A1 then D2. I hope this will be useful for someone.
This makes my whole body tingle and get goosebumps, feels like listening to the inner workings of the universe, like a battle between order and the chaotic entropy of reality.
I cannot describe this. It feels like a punch to the face by everything that exists but telling me it is gonna be okay. You will understand when the times right
Dropp reminds me of standing in the parking lot of the horrible job I worked at when I first heard this EP, taking a break to watch the full moon. Like that moon then, it reminds me that this too shall pass.
My very capability to describe this with language falls short. The words cacophony, ensemble or anything I think of can not touch this music. Beyond masterful and extremely touching. Watching this video and discovering this makes me feel more human.
As I was listening to this two years ago, aproximately, I remember going "What the shit? What just happened?". Now I'm nodding my head to this, just chilling out. It's weird how you develop musically (both as a listener and an artist) in such a short matter of time. Great stuff this. I also like the fact that this has over a million views.
@@aubolessi jonas neubauer, a beloved tetris player that just passed away. the only connection to this video is that he had it in a short playlist of songs on his yt profile.
I think you'll be surprised just how many artists have actually been influenced by Autechre. It's like how John Cage was doing unusual things in his time, and he didn't really care what others thought. Yet thanks to his little sound sketches he opened new areas in music and other musicians took influence from that. And that's how I feel about Autechre. Alot of their songs I feel are more like 'sketches' of great ideas. Obviously everyone interprets things different but that's how I view it.
I got addicted to listening music like Autechre almost 13 years ago now... Helped me through alot of harsh times always makes me feel very chill in a special way like if my body and brain sighs... Please respect Autechre for they are one of the best !!!
This track is so abstract. Its that feeling when uts late at night. Ur body is tired and ur om the verge of falling asleep but u cant. All u can do is toss and turn and ur just getting tired of being tired. But ur too comfortable in bed.
This is the first song i heard from these guys and it still blows me away. I guess its because less is more in the music industry. Im done with lyrics. I believe that so much can be conveyed with the absence of words. Like one of my favorite writers once said, 'words, they only complicate the task'
This is a perfect video for this track, I have watched it hundreds of times over the years. Brilliant stuff. Every time I watch it, there is a certain moment where the shapes form my sisters face! 😀
The people in this comment section are so snobbish it's ridiculous. Just because one guy doesn't like the song doesn't make them dumb, stupid, or suggests they "don't get it." Good song btw ; )
I've watched this video a number of times over the past year or so and am continually mesmerized by it. The visual elements are a great representation of what the song sounds like and how it plays out.
Add "&fmt=18" (without the quotes) to the end of this video and it increases both the audio and video quality. This video is a fusion of science and art - simply brilliant.
major props for this. this is up there with the gantz graf video in terms of expressing what an autechre song is "saying" where words completely fail. bravo.
Pushing the boundaries of what you do as a musician is probably the most satisfying thing possible. And that in itself demands respect. I can understand why people won't / don't like Autechre, but for me personally they're sort of have this mentality similar to my own. An appreciation of electronic gear and pushing it further, that is actually very addictive. Anyways you're always going to need artists like this, where other musicians can draw influence from.
i would say sit back and listen to tri-repetae and untilted all the way through. autechre takes a good amount of patience to listen to, but it's almost always worth it. very worth it:)
That's exactly what this music is. It's abstract. This was released in 1999 aswell so putting that into perspective this is an impressive song. This EP sits perfectly in Autechre's lifecycle too, as their earlier albums were more ambient techno and each album got more progressively experimental. There comes a point when making music that you end up getting 'bored' so progression is the next logical step, and these boys actually weren't afraid to do it.
a few years ago, i listened to this wanting to like it, but not knowing how to approach it. ive left my days of listening to electronic music and gone back to indie, post rock, post hardcore, emo, and the likes. although, i held onto a few treasures from the electronic music world. a few autechre song titles popped in my head and i came back here. now i see it. this is truly compositionaly fantastic. only negativity i can give is that the compression doesnt seem tight enough on the percussion.
If you want to hear the closest thing to sounding like them both then listen to the track 'elephant gear', both ae and VS shared files for that track. From what I remember Autechre provided the sounds and VS sequenced it. So even though that track is using mostly Autechre sound sources it still sounds nothing like ae, it sounds like a VS track to me and his signature is still all over it. They're just too different to one another imo, and the more you listen to their discographies the more obvious it becomes. Honestly I would say Autechre are closer to BoC than they are to VS. Obviously that's a big stretch to compare them to BoC, but that's the point, but I would still say they're closer to them than they are to VS..(i.e. comparing BoC back in the Skam days with Autechre's old output and some of their Gescom material etc. Both are very ambient orientated and heavily hip-hop influenced..similar melancholy vibes in tracks, similar gritty sampler signatures, similar gear tones back then with roland analog synths, samplers etc). In the end it's all subjective though so whatever lol. :-)
drukQs yeah, Huge Chrome is an extremely significant venetian snares album. probably his most elaborate and enigmatic. Sounds absolutely nothing like any other album he has put out.
summitthescale yeh, that album has a different feeling, i think the great differece is that is "colder" in timbre than other albums of aaron. his music is intrincate but very raw.
People must understand that not everyone can comprehend this stuff. If it was mainstream there would be absolutely no fun to looking around for tracks and knowing truly complex music
I agree. There are patterns out there that can defy observation. In my opinion, those can make some of the most unique and complex melodies known. And you are certainly right about art: it is in the eye of the beholder :)
When I was younger, I loved stupid trance music. Now that I'm older I play autechre, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada. What a wasted youth! This shit never gets old!.
I see where Thom Yorke took many sounds and ideas, cause he confesses that Autechre is one of their influences. // Ya veo de donde sacó muchos sonidos e ideas Thom Yorke. Él se confiesa que Autechre es una de sus influencias.
You have to approach this recording in a different way from the recordings of today. Firstly, this was recorded in 1999 or maybe much earlier. This was way before the prevalence of Digital plugins and even Digital Audio Workstations. We can assume that this was recorded in a 'mostly' hardware focused environment. There is a chance that certain effects due to cost and limitations, if any at all, were only applied to a handful of channels. That may be the reason why certain elements lack clarity
To counterpoint 'sweepstakes' first comment. The primary use of black and white give a more pronounced identy to the colors and more attention can be paid to what being done with those few colors. That context mirrors the feel that parallels Autechres usual forte in sound. The offset of with the singular 'odd' color I think represents the humanistic aspect of the forms. I would call it hyper minimalism. Cold and with no regrets but not totally unlike humans. I like it.
One more quote, from wiki real quick, on IDM: "Stylistically, IDM tends to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than on a particular set of musical characteristics." Also: "Usage of the term "Intelligent Dance Music" has been criticised by electronic musicians such as Aphex Twin and is seen by artists such as Mike Paradinas as being peculiar to the U.S"
You gotta feel it man, this is music beyond simple beats. It's what autechre feels man. I'm not high, but Just appreciative. Try combine video and sound to this caliber and see how difficult it is. It far more then crappy WMP equalizer graphics. I understand a LOT of people simply wont get it. You have to progress through a lot of electronica and IDM to get hit hard by this. take my word for it. this work is genius.
That is downright beautiful. Even so without the music, but with the music its .. even better :D Tried to contact autechre about this? I bet he'll enjoy it.

Any chance I can get your guess on the sound design on the main melody/ lead synth?
Dang I still don't get it, but hey music is fun either way.
@@robertordonez9242 Autechre quite liked their Nord Lead around the time of EP7/LP5, so that would be a decent guess.
