How To Make Concrete Pillars Look Like Wood!!

  • This happened by accident! I had some concrete pillars that were my inspiration for this how-to video. I did some research and came up with the tools and techniques you will find in this video.
I'm not a mason, but these techniques really work! I was able to shape the concrete pillars into what looks like tree trunks and very realistic bark.
    I used ...
    * Tan colored spec mix from Home Depot
    * The rubber stamps I bought from Amazon - here's the link..... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08... Description - Best Concrete Wood Stamp Kit, 9 Piece Wood Grain & Knots Stamp Kit, (Small Stamps) PRIMARILY Used for Smaller Concrete Projects, Stamp Countertop Edges, Concrete Trees, Concrete Wood Furniture
    * Other tools as shown in the video
    * Moon Rocks Gas
Here are the subtitles on this video.....
so i've already wet the post down once and it looks pretty good i think i'm going to kind of spray down just a little bit more
before we start putting the concrete on again you want to make sure it's good and wet we've already hosed it we've already doused it but it's really important so that if it's not wet if it's not wet then what's going to happen is is that it's just going to suck the moisture right out of the concrete and the concrete is not going to want to stick it's a little bit of a hot afternoon right now i'm guessing it's about maybe 95 degrees and you can see how fast that's kind of like coming off too
this is my favorite pattern that i like to start off with this pattern um has really nice deep grooves and like i showed you earlier in the video it does a great job of just rolling that concrete right up the tube so here we go
oh yeah that's a good consistency that feels good somebody's going to look at this and be like why are you applying it by hand and what about all this stuff that's falling down to the bottom um those are really great questions but for starters it really just goes on so much easier number one and number two the stuff that falls down to the bottom that's going to be used for the knot holes that we're going to be creating later as you can see we're really not putting on that thick of a layer here and i do like to work in layers i found that working in layers up the tube does a really great job in holding up subsequent layers number one but also it does a really good job in giving the appearance of several layers of bark
so starters i'm just kinda bringing that up the tube as you can see it kind of pulled away a little bit over here i did that on purpose because you really want to have this good and wet the water when you have it good and wet is going to keep this from from dragging and pulling off so let me go get the water bucket be right back
i'm just going to work my way around the tube and get this first coat in i like to pull it uphill and drag it like you see because it keeps the water on the tube as i'm working it against the concrete number one and number two um kind of keeps things from falling a little bit try not to go so linear maybe put a little bit of a squiggle in it as you go up like you can do like just weird little lines like i just did right there and don't be worried if you have an area like i showed you earlier where i didn't put enough water on it you can always go right back and you can always hit that again the other thing is is that a part of the finishing touch is going to be to um use a paintbrush to smooth down all these lines i'll show you that in just a second let's take a look at that knot so there's two different patterns that we can use in this kit this one here is gonna make it look like a tree trunk broke off so let's go ahead and let's see here why don't we do it facing down we'll just push that in
kind of cool how you can just like work with it as you're going work on the fly you're really not going to make a mistake with this look at that watch this this is gonna look good
and you can see how fast that went and like right now it's already got a pretty good look to it

I just made concrete posts 4" in diameter with PVC and used your technique. To mid the post to get the tee look. The contractor loves it. Thank you Sir..

the posts are poured sono tubes that hold up the dock on top of the liner inside a poured footing. the fascia is applied to the tubes.
thanks for the kind feedback 😀

Can the same process be done on a smaller scale. Like 8" in diameter concrete posts.
