Is the mini display port an “out” option only. I’m wondering if I connect my late 2015 iMac 5k to this via the Mini DisplayPort will the video be fed out of the USB-C to my monitor? I already have an MBP connected to the monitor through the dock via via USB-C/Thunderbolt and am wondering how to route the iMac through the dock so that I can use the monitor and all of the devices & audio equipment connected to the monitor & dock. I hope that makes sense.. Thanks in advance!
Hello, Hello, very Nice job on your video...... I m looping for a new dock for my Set-Up on my MacBook Pro 15 - 2019. I need to plug in : 1 NI Audio 6 + 1 Ableton Push 2 and 1 Midi piano like Native instrument KOMPLETE KONTROL S49 + 1 Samsung QLED TV 43’’. Myquestion do you think it s the good produit for my configuration ???
@@geekanoids same way as using the TS3, is it possible?, like my Aorus 1080, have a dedicated TB3 port, coz I'm setting up a 1 cable desk setup using my dell XPS laptop, note: i don't have a TS3 i just watched videos that it worked.
Don't know why all these docks, whether it's OWC, or CalDigit, or whatever skimp the 2 watts of power to meet the 87W power supply for 2016 and newer MacBooks... Honestly it's so silly. The full power delivery using TB3 is 100W so they should really support that.
Geekanoids I hope so. Every dock that’s come out so far has some kind of shortcoming 😓 for example does OWC offer SDXC UHS-II? It doesn’t specify, so I assume it doesn’t have that because if it did, they would market that as a feature...
I have this dock. The mini display port won't output thunderbolt video. It will only output to mini display port devices such as older Apple Cinema Display 27". Apple makes a thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter that will let you output to a Thunderbolt Display 27".
noel saw thanks Noel! I’m using this adapter now, just sad that I need to use one of the Thunderbolt 3 port for that. Do you know if that mini display can output 1080p 144hz display for gaming? I use bootcamp for games and I was wondering if I can use a fast frame rate display in that mini display port, looks like it can output 4K 60hz if I’m not wrong, but what would happen with a lower resolution like 1080p 120hz or 144hz
I skipped buying a dock, they are just so expensive, and just bought an 32" 4k screen with USB hub. It has 2xDP, 3xUSB 3.0, 2xUSB-C (one upstream 65W) and HDI. It charge my MacBook pro, and I can connect external SSD (T5) and backup drive. I really don't see any reason to buy all these expensive docks, not to mention the monitor comes with 5 year warranty.
It looks a great product Dave but I still think it's a disgrace that the companies (Apple started this and the others are following) have removed all these essential ports and still managed to raise the price of their Macbooks and laptops. So we're paying more for the laptop and then a lot more to get the missing ports.
I agree mate. I have been looking for something like this for a while so I may get it. I wonder if this will work with the new iPad Pro ? Can't remember if you mentioned it in the video?
Thank you for the review of this hub. I need to upgrade from thunderbolt 2 to 3, so I believe this might be a good option.
🤓👍🏻
I really hope the 2018 version is better than the 2017 version because it crapped out on me twice. I went with the caldigit t3 plus.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this 🤓👍🏻

Yes it is an output.

I think it could certainly help in your setup.
Hi :) Do you know if it will work on an MacBook Air 2017 with only a thunderbolt 2 port, but using an adapter on it?
As far as I know it only works TB3.
Geekanoids Ok Thanks👍🏼
Can this dock still support laptops that does not have the Thunderbolt port?
It might with limited functionality, but really designed for Thunderbolt 3 only.
Much needed updating on this hub, too bad Apple believes that their users do not need any ports.
I always run out of ports.
same here, with 1 free USB-c to USB-a dongle that came with the laptop package, i cannot use all my accessories at the same time.
Great review, thank you!
Many thanks.
Can I use this dock to dock MacBook Pro and lg 5k display?
That should work.
can I connect eGPU on this, w/c OCW 14-port is then connected to Dell XPS 13 9380?
I think the eGPU would have to have a dedicated TB3 port.

Maybe the next gen of docks will address this.

bought the new one 14 ports to connect my Thunderbolt Display in the mini displayport but nothing happens, any idea please?
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
Geekanoids thank you anyway!

Very frustrating that they dropped the FW800 port......
Yes. We need those legacy ports.
Can I travel with this in my hand luggage on a flight?
I am not an expert on this but would imagine it would be OK. Best check with the airline you are using.

Could you specify which monitor are you using? Thanks!

Yes, shame on Apple, but a great solution by OWC.
