Amy, first, I love how you humanized the homeless man by complimenting his eyes, because one thing most often stated by homeless people is that people won’t look them in the eyes. So, I have to ask if you told Frugal Daddy you got a marriage proposal this time? He better step up his game ...lol... You are a special person and today’s video just further confirmed why I like you so much! Happy Diving!

It is nice that you took the time and made the effort to engage with him in a conversation albeit an odd one for sure. Many just pass by and pay them no mind. However, I would caution you to be careful, some can be dangerous. Usually when they only want money and demand it there’s another set of issues...drugs, gambling or alcoholism, etc. Just please, please be careful!

When people ask for money rather than food it doesn’t mean issues with drugs or alcohol. It often means that they want to buy medicine, tampons, soap etc.

I was talking to a homeless couple a few months ago, asked if i could get them anything and "BLESS THEM" all they asked for was a coffee and she asked me was if it would be possible for me to buy her some tampons 😪 one of the most basic things any woman really needs and shes been using tissue paper from the local public toilets (of course i obliged) also bought them lunch, i sat and ate with them and we had a long conversation, such a sad story 😪 they had both been laid off from work after being in a car accident in which they very tragically lost their 3yrs old son and unborn child 😭 (it happened 4yrs ago) and they havnt been able to find work since, mainly because there homeless (no fixed adode/home so nobody willing to employ them) 😪 they were so appreciative not only for the lunch and tampons but for the conversation also , they dont hang around many of the other homeless as they dont drink or use drugs, they said it would be very easy too and dont hang around with those types as it would be too tempting (many use because there on the street and its there only way of escaping for a while) It breaks my heart 💔 they kept apologising because they said they wernt as clean as they would like to have been, due to the being homeless situation (i simply said it wasnt a problem) and that i didnt mind , said if i had i wouldnt have sat and eaten with them , that they weren't bad people just people that were in a very bad situation and that anybody could end up that way!!! They were so nice 😊 i look out for them whenever I'm in that area now!!! I also bought them some flowers to put on there sons grave and they both cried and thanked for the care and for sitting and talking with them, they asked if they could hug me when i said i had to leave, which of course i said yes too (think that fact alone ment more to them than anything else) they said most people just walk past or just give them change or just vocally abuse them!!! Honestly theres "No need" for that is there!!! it was so terribly sad 💔 and as you say they are are Human beings, think a lot of peoole unfortunately forget that!!!😥

That was so kind of you to talk to him. Also bringing him some gloves. Warm socks would be good. One little suggestion, next time you go to talk to him, bring Frugal Daddy along with you. Let him get to know the guy too. I was once attacked in broad daylight helping a homeless man. I will still help the homeless, but I always bring a man along with me.

Amy maybe a backpack and blanket, toiletries, would be appreciated by him. So many ppl are 1 or 2 paychecks from this status, so sweet you saw past him being homeless and saw a guy with beautiful eyes, cold hands but a decent heart. I doubt the tent would be a good idea, in our minds it would be but it may be hard to set up somewhere, it surely would be an awesome idea with snow fast approaching. As always a decent haul of sweets for frugal daddy. Love you got a proposal too. Soup would be a great idea, maybe he's warmed up enough to accept it from you.

Lol you did a good thing by talking to him. At least you cleared the air a little bit. ..and a marriage proposal to boot !! Right on..lol yeah i was homeless for about 3 1/2 years give or take. Ppl and animals shouldn't be homeless in America. The store just letting him sit out there without trying to help him or speak to him like he is a real human being with a Soul bothers the shit out of me. Its wonderful that you're thinking about him and what his needs are. Not only do i appreciate your warped sense of humor that I can honestly say that I 100% relate to..but, You have a BEAUTIFUL heart❤..Rock on👊💥

Well there is no excuse for stealing and violence with anyone, let alone those who are trying to help you. That's a big problem with the population of homeless drug addicts and mentally ill - not that they are all violent, but their behavior just totally burns out the family.

I was thinking of you and frugal daddy this morning as I was driving to ALDI. My chest freezer (to replace the one that died) has been delayed by several days and so I have no freezer space and yet I still felt the need for a quick dive. So, I'm in my car and I put it out to the Universe exactly what my situation was. That I needed shelf stable food or non food items and the time to grab them in broad daylight. Well, I got a whole box of instant oatmeal packets, 4 lbs of sugar, a nearly full box of breakfast biscuits, an umbrella, some microwave popcorn and lets just say it will be years before I have to buy sandwich bags or quart size freezer bags. The Universe does listen. Thank you for inspiring me to get brave and go Freegan.

When I use to feed the homeless in Philadelphia I use to come home and my mind went wild with my thoughts I felt bad I was in a warm home with a roof over my head and thinking I need to do more for them my dad never understood how sad it made me knowing I couldn’t do more and wanted to go back. I was only 18 living in willow grove about idk about a hour from philly. It’s really tough to walk away feeling you need to do more. Every little bit helps that’s why I came up with a yearly project/donation I do. I’ve been doing that since I’ve been 18 and I’m 51 now...long time but happy to do it. Ur a good hearted person keep doing what ur doing ♥️

Deb Does Readings don't feel bad fir having all those things . I know how easy is to feel guilty about it but probably you work hard to keep all those things . Sugarpop73 that’s rubbish. I became homeless thirty-odd years ago because an ex was trying to kill me and the police back then weren’t trained to take these things seriously. Most of the people I knew on the streets were fleeing abuse. A few had drug/alcohol problems, or had developed them while homeless: you do whatever it takes to feel warm enough to sleep. When I found somewhere to stay, it took a while for me to heal before I could work. Then I worked, and I live in my own house now and I work. No lack of discipline there. Your sweeping judgment about homeless people is based on something you clearly don’t understand at all.

We had a young gentleman near us a few years ago who was homeless and almost everyone ignored him. My other half and I on the other hand asked if there was something we could do to help him in a small way. We live on benefits as I am disabled and my other half is my full time carer. Although he was very shy and spoke little English, we found out he was Hungarian, as was my other half's dad so they managed a few words. Over The November, December and January we would give him what we could, including a very large thermos flask, which the local pub said they would be happy to fill for him as and when he needed it, and every few days we would take fresh supplies of coffee, tea bags, dried milk and sugar. We did not see him every day but would always take something with us or buy something at the shop for him. One of the things we did was if we got a buy one get one free item, usually fresh fruit but sometimes cake or cookies he would get the free one. We also had a really warm, thick waterproof jacket that was to small for my other half, but fitted him really well. Over the 3 months we knew him we did as much as we could, mainly because of the Hungry connection. He was such a sweet man only about 25 or so, we even asked him to come to us over Christmas and New year, but he declined, saying if he did he may lose his fairly regular space in the shelter. We never knew what happened to him but he often spoke about getting enough money to return to Hungry. We really hope that happened for him.
Much love and respect to all the family, including the pets. xxxxx

The homeless issue is a difficult thorn to deal with. You want to give them what you think they need, but they only want what their particular demon is. (booze, drugs, mental illness) There are shelters for the homeless, but you can't have any bad habits (drugs/booze) so many still stay away. We had our own homeless man project.. he did minor chores for us for a few dollars and we always gave him toiletries or clothing (in fact, one year when we were at a garage sale and spotted a snowmobile suit and we both said... Lets get that for our guy! LOL) Dry socks, mittens, ski caps, clean underwear (none of this has to be new... just clean )

She really appreciated the items I gave her but especially the big hugs!!!

Is there any way that you can contact an organisation that helps the homeless?
They can come by and check that he's Ok.They can assess whether he has mental health issues or other needs. Your information, to the organisations, is of value, but you must keep a safe distance. He's probably not a risk to your safety but you don't know what his history is,have Frugal Daddy with you next time you are taking the man any other goodies.

You’ve warmed my heart today with your generosity toward the homeless man. I love your page for so many reasons but most especially for not only recognizing the food waste in America but stepping up to do something about it. You are bringing much needed attention to a big problem in America. Hard to believe a store throws that much good food away while a homeless individual sits right there next to the building hungry but afraid to possibly break the law by retrieving good thrown out food. I keep thinking about the soup kitchens all over that would so appreciate extra food. They can work magic with some meat and a few veggies for soup making or any number of easy recipes for hungry people. Thank you “frugal mommy”...you’re making room for yourself in the front row when you get to Heaven (hopefully a very long time in the future). God bless you sweet girl. ❤️ P.S. I’m still laughing about “I’m getting giddy Bob” from the last video!!! Great story!!! ❤️😊

The first night our shelter was open, Publix gave us food to serve for breakfast, pastries and coffee (we didn't have hot breakfast that first morning, lesson learned!). No one touched the pastries. People with drinking problems won't eat sweets. We make sure to have meats and other proteins for them in the morning now. Dessert at dinner time usually goes untouched as well.

That's weird. I have known a lot of alcoholics ...most of the time they just want alcohol and their nachos etc. Lots only eat cos it's necessary. I didn't even notice about the sweets until now. I noticed also that when homeless reject food it's not because they are ungrateful but because they are well fed and the police in my city have said it would be hard for anybody on the streets to starve because nobody will feed them -- not saying it doesn't happen sometimes though. Thanks for the insight, you are awesome for working with homeless people. x

Helping even one homeless person is so very admirable - most of us probably wouldn't even glance his way. It is so hard when they won't accept help, or what we consider help in the form of food, clothes, a place to sleep, and instead want money - usually to pay for their addiction. Even though there are usually multiple resources available, including making sweeps of homeless during extremely cold weather to get them into shelters, it is almost impossible to help them change unless they want to. Probably an odd request, but keep us informed if you continue to see him.

Love that you were civil to the homeless man. As far as the guy throwing away personal trash, I think I would have shown his face in the video just to shame him. He is the reason other people who are trying to save waste and make use of trashed food have such a hard time.

Amy, great point about the merchandise made JUST for the Black Friday sales … I wish that you would have also told viewers that at the Outlet Malls, there are also clothing lines made just for them (they aren't just an outlet for clothing that didn't sell in the store last season)

We have a male cat called Minxy, definitely deserves his name, and he is a nose biter as well. Odd eh? We have 4 dogs and the cat plays fetch so much better than 3 of them! One dog, Max, I swear used to be a football player in a previous life.
Love your family. Being different means life is never boring! Thats what I tell my girls! 🕯💜

Amy,i love the human being you are,,, you remind me of myself, I've already got two homeless people joining us for Christmas day,,bless you,hat gloves socks scarf, jumpers that are warm, wipes, deodorant, razor, maybe a flask that you could refill for him with hot drinks or soup when you make a batch, ask him about the need for sleeping bag and tent,, and tell him about places where he can get a hot meal etc,we are in the last week leading up to the general election here in the UK,we are all hoping and praying that Labour get in and put an end to homelessness, and all the suffering of working class people who are being persecuted by the Tories who have caused homelessness,it has more than trebled under Tory rule

I really liked how you stopped to talk & help him understand why it is ok to dumpster dive by the laws. And your heart is good to want to share the food with him & shook his hand that was honorable on your behalf it shows you are not afraid of him. And to know you will be taking him gloves & anything to help him that you will give to him. I enjoy helping but most of the time I do not carry money so can't help whomever when asked The gas stations use to have a lot of people that asked for money & I use to carry cash so I would help a little but I got ripped off a few times so I quit carrying cash cause I would feel guilty not helping. But it all boiled down to who do I believe really needs the help & not going around the corner to buy drugs which has happened or buy alcohol. I love sharing if I can but not to be swindled. Have a wonderful day & thank you for taking us along

Love the fact that every time I see you I always think that it could have been me doing the same things. (I'm also one of the loud persons that make "embarrassing" things😂)
Keep up the good work and if you will you can follow my UA-cam channel from the beginning. (started it a couple of hours ago, finally got the courage 🙌👍)

Put a care package together (hygiene products, socks, mittens, hat, snacks and hell if y'all got a tent and sleeping bag offer it) He will either use what you give him or sell it to get some booze... He's definitely at a point where he needs to drink to not have seizures.. alcohol withdrawal is extremely dangerous. You said you wouldn't want your parent to be homeless but it's the classic cliche of "you can lead a horse to water" You taking a moment to talk to him (not at him like alot of folks do with the homeless w/issues) as askewed as the conversation may get or be, for him it's still someone giving him the time to care for a moment, which if maybe more people did, he might drink that water he was lead to... Humanity and compassion don't cost a thing and can go along way.. Today's modern, instant gratification, one up everything and everybody society desperately lacks humanity and compassion, it's very sad.
Bravo to you, for sharing your compassion, we can only pray the rest of the world catches on...💜
