This is the most comprehensive history I have seen of the Eternals and how it ties into the Deviants, the Uranian (Marvel Boy), and the Etenals on Titan.
I've been reading comics off and on since the 70s when the Eternals were first introduced and I really enjoyed how you were able to weave all the different recons and subplots together into one fascinating video. There was a lot here that I didn't know such as the recon of 50s Timely hero Mercury/Hurricane and the connection between Marvel Boy, the Crusader and Quasar. Fun!
I read the eternals back in the 70's but was never able to finish the series. Now I know what happened. Thanks for filling in the blanks. One of kirby's best works I think!
There's a great line that describes how powerful the Celestials are in issue 6 of the Eternals 2006 series. Tiamut, the Dreaming Celestial, is waking up and the Avengers are planning to fight it to protect the Earth. Iron Man: "It can't stop us all." Wasp: "We've fought aliens before." Makkari: "Doesn't matter. You can't hurt it. You can't even AFFECT it." Um, wait... did you say... just... dang.
I was on an mcu discussion podcast recently and had to do research for eternals and was looking for a video to supplement my reading of Jack Kirbys run, Neil gaimans run and Gilliams run. And I have to say this is the BEST one I have watched and I have watched easily a dozen of these eternals history/breakdown videos. Well done bro bravo.
I'm very glad to have found your videos. The comprehensive nature of your channel and the pleasant storytelling combined with the original panels is marvellously satisfying my curiosity. Thank you.
I see you even listed Marvel Universe 6 - 7. You have a better list than most other online sites. Shows your passion. I liked those issues with Mercury hunting down Giant Monsters.
I actually dislike the whole "can't reproduce with each other" thing instead them just rarely have children, as they are so long lived that they don't feel the need to have children like humans do because of aging and losing the ability.
It's a weird thing to add at this point. I think they wanted to put forth the idea that the number of Eternals never really changes so they can't reproduce and they can't die. So there are always 100. It's a neat idea but it does mean we have to accept that they're all roughly the same age and that the familial connections between them were always symbolic, both of which were clearly not meant to be the case before. I don't completely hate the idea since it helps make the Eternals unique and differentiate them from the Inhumans. However, I totally understand not liking it.
24:19 I'd say Kro is wrong, but this is the same universe where Norman "Green Goblin" Osborn became the head of HAMMER... Edit: While the Eternal-Celestial story gets convoluted at times, I once again appreciate how connected the Marvel universe is. Also, that Jack Kirby art is downright beautiful.
Me myself love the Eternals and Celestial lore Jack Kirby was a genius to leave DC and bring this gem of a story to marvel, and u give great homage to him, thank u.
Good choice and timing man, fingers crossed this thinking helps the channel grow. maybe do some Spiderman villain origins or the sinister 6. What's your favorite marvel comic?
the only problem with this story is that the gods were created thru the belief of humans, not the other way around. the celestials created the first humans which became the eternals. that means it was the normally evolved humans that saw the eternals doing special feats that gave rise to the belief in gods.
Hmm in Kieron Gillen Eternals run it was retco...urr established that the Uranos that was exiled was a clone of the the original Uranos the undying, who sorta looks like a blue Thanos, as for that Eternals not being able to have children with each other, I just took that to mean some sort of genetic engineering was involved between 2 genetically compatible Eternals.
Hey! After watching this video. Something came to my mind, maybe They actually are real family, you know like father and son. Maybe the Ape's that were modify to become Eternal were actually realited and After gaining Intelligence, they understood family, life and other things.
Can you do history of Master Pandemonium, Chthon, Mephisto, Dormammu, Clea, Brother_Voodoo, Shuma-Gorath, Nightmare, Baron Mordo, the Ancient One, Agamotto and Pkzkrfmknna along with Firestar and Vance_Astrovik AKA Justice?
Vance Astrovik would be an interesting video to me also since I never really understood the connection between the original GotG and the current (?) hero Justice. (I like the supernatural suggestions also)
People are like the "Eternals Movie is boring." Yeah the Eternals are boring and this is one of those history where its is written confusing All this we have the gods and we have the deviants and eternals who where confused for gods,. is confusing Id say pick one or the other. Like many god level cosmic stuff its all vague and confusing, guess its part of the genre.
To be fair the eternals weren’t that big in the comics, most of them despite been from the 80 have less appearances than recent created characters. I think Ikaris had 126 appearances or so
@@ally462 Yeah comics nobody really payed much care for the heroes unless they were the big three superman, batman, wonder woman for DC And Marvel Iron man, Captain America, Thor
@ally462 And in spite of the Eternals being minor players in the Marvel Universe, by comparison to many other characters, it really SAYS SOMETHING about HOW MUCH FANS DISLIKED the WOKE-TERNALS Movie 🎬 and vastly preferred the comics Eternals.
With each Eternal having their own power like Makkari has hyper speed and Gilgamesh has super strength, which eternal has the best powers and abilities?
Marvel Studios should’ve done this. The movie is more complicated with the eternals being some kind of Ai or android. Or wait, it was some kind of body that has a soul/energy. That is kinda cool too. I don’t know what point im trying to make
I love the fact that Jack Kirby's 50 yr old repackaging of Greek mythology...combined with references to Christianity & the Bible has stood the test of time ..& has as interesting & complex backstory as the rest of the Marvel Universe But even as a kid reading Kirby's work at DC after he left Marvel in the early 1970s..& then his work for Marvel after his comeback in 1976..I thought that Kirby's writing skills did NOT match his art skills..at least in my opinion..& as his artwork reached its peak during his Marvel comeback of the late 1970s..& Marvel made the most of it by having Kirby do the covers of every Marvel book for damn near a year..the books where he was the writer as well as artist...like Captain America..The Black Panther..& The Eternals..had the most cringeworthy dialog I had ever read ..I was about 11 or 12 at that time & was appreciating the fact that most Marvel books of that era were being written for young adults..unlike the stories of the 1950s & early 60s..which seemed to be for a much younger demographic..but even at that young age. I wished that Kirby would go back to JUST being an artist..& leave the writing to Stan Lee & the rest. Over the years I've gone back & read those books again. & I can definitely appreciate Kirby's overall ideas & world building. .& his writing seems more nostalgic now..but STILL. some of the awkward emphasis on the wrong words in a sentence. & just the things he has his characters say..can push the CRINGE button to this day..lol. I'd love to know if anyone feels the same way about Kirby's later work..
Can you do history of Inferno, Victorious, Gambit, Moondragon, Phyla_Vell and Genis-Vell along with the Supreme Intelligence, Mole_Man and Angel/Archangel along with Exodus and Ex-Nhilo?
The original Eternals comic I have heard of but never read them. I know about the Celestials from various Marvel titles I collected over the years. Plus, the Eternals initial run was shortlived.
Thanks to Marvel Unlimited I have been able to read a lot of issues in the MU. I do have the advantage of time reading nearly 30yrs of comics concurrently. Also had accesses to a lot of back issues due to a friend and between his father had almost every Marvel book ever published. Even then I still was not interested in EVERYTHING Marvel published even in the 80's was a lot to keep up, not only to put in The amount of money I had as a teen 13-17 yrs old, I only really read like 6 monthly series on the reg. Some of these Episodes allowed me to not have to read and or reread some of the classics.
I can see a huge galactic war, maybe that’s what marvel missed, they need to have the kree use the inhumans and the celestials use the mutants and eternals for a big fight. I don’t think that would make sense but thats what came to mind
Just an idea, I think Doctor Spectrum could make a very good member to the Eternals. Well if he was able to control his power because I heard that he almost wiped the Avengers from reality with his power prism. But I figured out that the power prism which is the crystal in his left hand is really a living creature a being that feeds on emotions. By that he used to to turn thor, captain america, and iron man's fear into reality which were loki, the winter soldier, and ultron. But in the end they saved Spectrum because that was not him falcon said the prism was controlling him. Because Nighthawk put it in his hand and made him destroy his plannet. But let me know if their is another version Spectrum, I would like to know what you think.
Aside from Thanos and Eros, the Titanian Eternals aren't true Eternals. When Mentor first reached Titan, Sui-san was the only survivor from the group that previously settled there. So when they rebuilt and repopulated the colony, they did so using genetic engineering and cloning technology. Gotta admit, their story is kind of a mess, but you put together a really good roadmap for it.
Generally people have no idea what the fuck are they supposed to do with them.
There's a great line that describes how powerful the Celestials are in issue 6 of the Eternals 2006 series. Tiamut, the Dreaming Celestial, is waking up and the Avengers are planning to fight it to protect the Earth.

I'd appreciate it when you guys do these videos you tell us what comics, volume and issue numbers these stories crossed
Were would Marvel Comics and the MCU be today without Kirby: the one and only Eternal!
This video was amazing it really help explain Who are the eternals I was wondering are you going to do a future video on devil dinosaur
