  • Today we fire up our induction cooktop to show you how much power we use when boiling water and cooking eggs. This should give you a good idea on how to improve your build your solar set up to support induction cooking in your camper van.
We live in our van full time and have 200 amp hours of battery power when we are at 100%. We have two 100 watt solar panels and a 2000 watt inverter. It is a below average set up. Maybe average. But, nothing to write home about. We use power constantly as we keep our fridge cool and charge devices. So far this system has worked well for us. We have had a few bumps in the road, but it works for a family of four.
You always want more. It is a hard feeling to be satisfied. We like our set up, but if we had 400 amp hours and four 100 watt solar panels I would be a lot more at ease with our power situation. There are often times where we can not use our induction stove top because we do not want to full drain our batteries.
Hope this video helps with your set up! If you have any questions just drop us a comment.

Great info because I always wonder about how much battery is used for van life stuff. What worries me is not having enough battery to keep the fridge working. I am not a van lifer but I am hoping to be, when hubby retires. Fridge, cooking, AC and heat are the items I always want have plenty of in a van...oh, and water.

Lillian, appreciate the comment! Yes, we can relate. I would recommend going with a bigger battery set up than we have. Instead of 200 amp hours try to beef it up to 400 or 600 which should give you plenty of juice! Good luck with the van plan. Feel free to reach out if you have questions. We have been on the road full time for 3 months.
