So Now I Bought a PS3 Test System Unit Debugging Station Machine (Part 2)

- Hey kids! This is the ultimate PS3 system! Except for the "tool" version, which is better than my "test" version here.
This thing will boot:
PS1 originals and backups from all regions (it should even boot my "Game Station" games)
PS2 originals and backups from all regions (PS2 backups more than likely have to be authored/patched a certain way to boot)
PS3 originals from all regions (this is irrelevant as the retail PS3 does this, I just threw it in as a filler)
It might be able to play PS3 backups, the thing is you can't copy a PS3 disc without a certain burner and program. It won't play blu ray movie discs from what I understand. DVD movies are unconfirmed.
Plus can you also play burned PS3 games on a jailbroken and debug systems, since I heard you can and one video even uses a DVD+R Dual Layer disc instead of BD-R (in this case Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on a Dual Layer disc and it boots). If games are smaller in size, I wonder if it would fit on a normal DVD-R, DVD+R or even a CD-R for much much smaller games.
PS3 games are encrypted and only like 2 or 3 burners support copying them. Ripping to DVD-R is a bad idea given it has to shrink it down to fit on a smaller medium. You lose stuff like FMV cut scenes and such like back in the PS2 days when the DVD's were ripped to CD-R.
@@JeffisWinning Yeah I agree, but at least Dual Layer will work for some games, but I also wonder if you can burn PSN only games to discs, despite being download only, plus what BD-R discs do you prefer 25GB or 50GB.
I was expecting the PS3 Debug system to have the original start up sound plus Sony Computer Entertainment text instead of PS3 on start-up.
The test systems are more or less just retail units that have extra features. You can jailbreak a PS3 and essentially get a test unit. The start up sound is just like any retail PS3, no difference.
None of the debugging units say "test" on start up, whether it be a PS1 test unit or a PS2 one. The PS3 "tool" system might, but I don't have one so I don't know if it does.
@@JeffisWinning WOW, I should actually do that one time, although I don't know if I can install the test firmware on later fat PS3 models (the ones with NO PS2 support) though.
One thing you didn’t test is if would play Blue Disc PS2 games and Dual Layer PS2 games (like God Of War 1 & 2, Gran Turismo 4, etc). Oh and does the debug system have the SD card and some other card ports like the PS3 PS2 compatible model.
I forgot about the PS2 CD games, but it more than likely will boot them. As for dual layer games, I don't any so I couldn't test it. The PS3 test unit is just like a launch release retail PS3 (only with no restrictions for backups and other region games as shown in the video) so it has all the ports.
@@JeffisWinning For DL, I’ll probably guess that it’ll work, because some original PS2 systems can’t even boot them at all (even if modded) which was fixed in later models and the PS3 is obviously Blu-ray which is bigger than Dual Layer (which for games it’s used for all Xbox 360 games, some Wii games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl & Metroid Prime Trilogy, and a small number of PS2 games).
@@JeffisWinning Plus I wonder if the later fat ones still have the SD ports but inaccessible usually.
Is there a remote Web UI or something? You could connect it to a network and scan the PS3's IP for open ports using a PC or the Fing app on a phone. I have an old Alcatel Windows Phone (10) with a remote UI for application development and performance logging.
There might be, not sure. I just got it and don't know much about it really.
Thinking about getting a test system
If you can find one, get it.
Hey Jeff, great review video. Are you willing to sell that Teat PS3, or do you possibly know where I can ‘obtain’ one myself? Thanks in advance.
Thanks man! No, it's not for sale sorry. I have had others ask about it too. I got mine off ebay. They're rare, but do pop up from time to time.
@@JeffisWinning Understood. I appreciate the response! One more question this one concerning your PS1 Debugging Console: some PS1 owners were telling me that they were experiencing an issue where a small portion of the bottom of the screen is displayed at the top or some other graphical glitches when they mod their console (either through a modchip or xstation) to play PAL games. Are you experiencing anything like that when using your PS1 Debugging console with PAL games?
@@GooseDaPlaymaker Not a problem. Just keep checking around ebay and sites like it for a PS3 test unit, one should pop up at some point. They are expensive though, upwards of $400+
As for my PS1 debug unit, it's a US NTSC unit. I don't have any PAL games so I can't answer your question, however I have heard that it doesn't have dual oscillator or something along those lines like the Net Yaroze does so booting PAL games causes some issue, not sure if it's the issue you speak of or not. My USA and Japanese games boot up fine though, no screen issues.
@@JeffisWinning Dude...I'll take your advice, for sure. Thanks for the response and keep making great/entertaining content!
@@GooseDaPlaymaker Not a problem. Oh I will!
Dude where did you get a lsd game Jeff . I bet that cost you a few hundred doll hairs
I got it off ebay a few years ago. It did cost a good amount too.
