- Nestled in the neighbourhood of Velachery in Chennai, Agam is a compact home surrounded by buildings on two sides and a dead end road on one side. The house also has provision for a commercial unit on the ground floor.
One of the most striking features is its bold and solid facade finished entirely in interesting patterns of bricks that not just creates an interesting play of light and shadow throughout the day but also addresses the warm climate of the city through meticulously planned placement of bricks and the use of rattrap bond.
The use of golden proportion creates interesting volume along various levels and floors that makes the house breezy and spacious. Owing to this, the house is very porous on the inside in strong juxtaposition to its brick facade.

An earthy material palette, use of rattrap bond, a strategic facade design and the play of levels along the vertical section of the house are some key highlights of the project. The architect gives an insight into various details, materials and planning that went into planning this site and making the best out of this compact plot.

The raw exposition of the concrete, brick and iron is only appealing when the finishing is perfect. This project, to me, looks more unfinished than aesthetically pleasing. But I cnt agree more how great the designs are and the layout, ventilation, everything is on point☮️🔥
I hope they do some furnishing and painting work...to make it look complete..
The concrete finish hasn't been done properly. The brick work and concrete have been done which is suitable for applying wall putty to complete the finish. The bare concrete should've been done properly. One way to enhance the look of the house could with the use of more wood panelling particularly with a teak wood finish to cover up a lot of the concrete finishes. That would aesthetically improve the house much more and give a premium look. Also they need to have more wood based furniture which will further enhance the house.
I love the layout and layering of floor space which they have done with an emphasis on ventilation. Ventilation would be particularly useful when the temperatures soar to 40-50C during the summers in Chennai. Although this house would feel more cold during the winter months when the temperatures are around 19-24C during the nights. With the open design, installation of an AC would be impossible and it would be difficult to heat up the house when it feels cold.
For people who live in a temperature of 30-40C throughout the year and are acclimatised to this temperature would feel even 20-25C as cold and 40+ as slightly warm. Hence the human perceptions of hot and cold would differ based on where they are acclimatised to
I think it looks beautiful, it has a raw unique modest beauty.
What do you think of Laurie Baker's designs ?
It's a great design, and I love the minimalist approach as well. The traditional design is better than the fancier one any day. In the modern world, it is rare to find natural ventilation, and it is also healthier than air conditioning. Wishing you more success, architect and team
Simple "Lime wash" will give it a life. Those Grey's giving dead impression of the house. It's time for all the architects to realise this fact! Don't fool your clients! Also it saves lot of electricity! Lime is a traditional method .no chemicals.
kinda reminds me of the shakthi and karthik's home in alaipayuthe.
Very well designed. The two entry to the plot has been very well utilized. Well ventilated with simple and functional interiors. What stands out is the clean and smooth finish of the concrete and walls... gives a rustic finish, though not sure how practical to live. Well used brick facade that actually helps in bringing down the temperature and harshness from West sun. Good job
One of the best homes so far for urban hectic life
Wonderfully designed and very simple.
This house looked so incomplete.. even in industrial themed houses with exposed bricks/pipes it looks complete & nice, but this house makes it feel like U ran short of funds.
It’s kind of strange that there is so much lack of being able to seal the house. Open bricks (walls), bi-fold doors, windows, etc. It would seem like many smells, pollen, dust, smoke, and pollution could invade the home. The road way in the distance could mean some amount of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, etc., could harm the inhabitants. Kind of a problem. But love the brink work, A.
I was thinking the same thing, all the pollution and dust is welcomed and well circulated in the house. As much as this looks great, actually living in it and the day to day cleaning must be a chore.
Came here to highlight the same. In India there's hardly any dust free, low pollution zones. I wonder how the client was okay with this concept.
Imagine the amount of cleaning and upkeep this house would require as there will be free entry of dust, pollen, all kinds of insects and smoke. They also don't have a wardrobe! In a year, this house will need remodelling.
I wish we could have a comment regarding the same from the client or the architect. Maybe I'm wrong and they have means do deal with all the imaginary issues that I'm thinking of.
@@prakash86anish Now that I think about it more, this architextural style gets used many times by Buildofy. And while I absolutely love what they do with brick and openings, I do wonder what issues there are with this style. I guess air-conditioning is out of the questions with this style.
I wonder the same thing about the ingress aspect of the building. Since the walls are so thin. at least for the door, I was thinking of glass that slides into the wall. Like a packet door. Making enclosure space with opening widows that features the open brick concept could also make the house less polluted. Probably easy to say; hard to do.
This house is really open love it ❤❤❤I would like if it was painted and not just bricks
Simply beautiful 👌👌👌
Excellent Engineering.... I Liked it....
beautiful and effective design👍
Kudos to the architect.Explained very clearly in simple words so that its easier to understand . Can picturize how the whole building is designed just from the plan itself. For those making comments like unfinished /not pleasing.. I guess they dont understand the building methodology that is not only ecofriendly but also much needed to tacke the summer heat in chennai. This way of construction is not cheap but a bit costlier.
How about dust control? Becoz this building is located in very near to the main road.
Beautiful home, well worked out design. Kudos to Architect & client❤
@buildofy please bring more such projects on brick houses
The clients will start their day sweeping the house and shooing the pigeons... And end their day the same..
Welcome living with dust and pigeons stench...😅
Perfect habitat.😁😁😁
Exactly what i was thinking
Beautiful. It's a dream house
you could have waited for construction to complete before shooting the video.
😂😂😂
It's a completed home. It's artistically made.😅😅
They ran out of money while constructing and called it artistic
😂😂 yea ... Plastering tho Kiya hi nahi .... I like when exposed brick is used but this is definitely too much giving that money shortage vibe
Heights of sarcasm 😅
Compact!! It's bloody massive.
Spacious and beautiful
Simple and good
Super project
Truely nice ambience to reside been crafted, owner has a good taste of life! 🙂
Floor plan looks great. The house overall feels is still a work in progress and is unfinished.
Clever design.
The north east road dead end is a best thing that could happen a plot as per vasthu and beautiful work
What about when it rains? Will the open brick wall be sufficient?
I would like to explore the interiors of the photocopy shop more.
raw unfinished work is evident. planning and design full marks
Good one
admiration to the owner of the house for opting such decision .
How much is the cost of construction ? Beautifully done in earthy and raw materials. The only concern is the brick layering which has left holes .will there be a curtain ? Could you have replaced that with glass windows?
Owner is brilliant. Velachery is the ex water reservoir in rainy season flood will enter so he kept it simple😂
As per Vastu, is it right to build steps in between the house? Did we follow loading and sloping principles as Vastu?
Nice video ..........If possible , Buildofy need to mention approx budget........I may be wrong.
great design
how much money is used in these homes and charge of the architects
What might the budget to build a house like this excluding land be?
House seems so big but made in such small plot size? 😮how is that possible ? Was there no set back ka maintained ? Not sure how you achieved it. This is the only highlight. Rest look impractical.
Does anyone know how to connect with this buildofy architects
no setback?
Having a non closable exposed windows is a problem if u wanna close the window to shut down outside polluted air or rain
Unfinished?
Good design but y have the two shop in out of the front in house, i felt life village
All mosquitoes will come inside and eat humans inside the house
Diagonally arranged brick is the only attraction. Clumpy space with no symmetry
The design is beautiful but I would like if it was painted...... But I know that house making is very costly, so shortage of money can arrive ❤❤❤
Exterior eith xposed brick is fine but interiors should have been Little contemporary. Planning is good.
Sir how could I connect with your team for my project...
is it allowed to have windows on the side of the house which over looks neighbour's house, just asking for myself
What is the total cost of construction
Southeast corner site a road towards south east and south west...
1500 sqft built up given 25-40
Ground floor want no built up only need 1-2-3 floor 3 terrace with vasthu please suggest
Review Vishal prints house in surat
When creativity meets a wanna be !!
How did you conceal electrical conduits?
Probably through the flooring, thats a very common. reliable and expandable way to go now a days.
Cost of construction for this house
How much charging for square feet...for 1300 Project...
The house will attract a lot of 🐦🐦🐦 during their mating season and they wil try to make nests in all those cavities
Hi, THIS IS AJAY VORA .... I have require ARCHITECTURE one veg vedik dhaba concept on GIJRAT HIGHWAY PLS CONT THNX
I usually troll a lot in the comments, but this time the architect has really done an awesome job. Very nice usage of space and maintaining the purity of the place.
Only thing making me uneasy was when the lungi guy was standing in front the light and was worried about what the shadows would...... 😅
He is not worried. Stop making fun of people with ur crooked mind.
house is good, not the place should be in society with greenery
Lizards be like aila, no struggle getting in.
The design is fine and there is some brilliant brick work in between. But overall, this project seems unfinished. There is no finishing touch in the layout and it's not appealing at all.. Sorry, but didn't like it overall.
People generally dont talk about one aspect, dust .....
Plastering aur painting ka lharcha bach gaya
Inside, beautiful, but outside, zero out of Ten. Fancy shops....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This house is complete but incomplete
Idea is nice, but finishing is bad. Looks like pinterest inspired deign but executed with someone with no experience.
It's done thinking of criteria of cement , sand issue overthrere
Some great ideas went into the making of this home. But the the exterior is really brutal. I would not want to be a neighbor having to stare at this eyesore. It’s very selfish design that reduces property value of the neighborhood.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Undercooked.
Where is footpath ? Did architect left minimum setback 😯
Damn! Also missed the entrance on the other side of the house + the car park. Would have loved to see that too.
No setbacks left as per minimum requirements of the city . Dono how they got approval

This house is 100% incomplete. Those saying its artistic are delusional.
North india la ipdi dha ella veedum irukum velila poosama 😂😂
