Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury has a bunch of hidden things still within that I haven't seen a whole lot of people talk about. And in today's video, we're covering one of those bizarre things. 3 absurd 1-ups that have been hidden for years. Let's go on another extra life quest, shall we?

I think that’s where the miiverse post was! There was a post that asked “can you guys guess where this picture was taken” and I couldn’t figure it out past what stage it was. This is mind blowing

These should be easier on the switch version because the cat power up has been given a buff so you can climb for longer.
I’m definitely trying it when the game releases
This is something I'll definitely want to try!
@@Just_Shaun yep me too
Who knows if these 1-ups will even be in the switch version though?

Thank you! I got up there many years ago but I completely forgot how. A couple years ago I tried again; thinking that I remembered a warp pipe was up there, guess it was 1-UPs; but I couldn’t find a way to get up there. I ended up almost completely doubting I ever did it and that it was even possible without having to use glitches. I totally believe that me and my brother would have gone into 2 player mode in order to get up there.
i just got up there with peach, you need to do a spin jump then grab into the wall on of the two side of it, then with a bit of luck you should be able to get there.
@@andrealeonardo417 interesting, thanks
Same, I got up there by playing multiplayer and was surprised that it was possible... but I still wish I got something as cool as a secret power up or something, but that would never happen
3:42 "there's no documentation for these 1-UPs anywhere". Actually Mankalor documented them in a video. Though to be fair, the video is called "Super Mario 3D World - Small details you may not have noticed", so it's not obvious that it would include these 1-UPs (plus it's not like you could have watched every video on this game that exists). Still, good video.
Thanks for clarifying this!
THAT’S WHY I THOUGHT I HAD HEARD OF THESE BEFORE! I HAD WATCHED THAT VIDEO! THANK YOU! NOW I KNOW I’M NOT INSANE!
@@SwankyBox No problem
@@phrotonz Your welcome
Yeah I've gotten these before but not from the video you're talking about.
It was pure curiosity.
Though I did try and look up videos on if there's something up there and I came back empty handed but I still did it because I thought it would be cool.
*Sees three 1-ups in sand*
It continues..
There's a connection going on between sand and 3 1-up mushrooms here...
A'ight, better keep our eyes peeled for some in Bowser's Fury if it has a world in that theme. ;)
Yeah I just thought about the ones in Galaxy 2.
And chuggaaconroy's extreme ease getting them
I swear I remember seeing a video years ago that showed how to get these 1-ups. It used Luigi and Rosalina. Anyone else?
I saw it and I tried it. For 1 hour...
I also saw it but I never tried to get the extra lives
yeah i remember, no idea what it was though
It was by a UA-camr named Mankalor, he’s probably most famous for his Mario Kart 8 videos, but one of his older videos (can’t remember which one, but I’m pretty sure he hasn’t deleted it) features this.
Same!!!
Looking forward to playing this again on the switch!
HI
I actually forgot its Swanky Video
He needs to make a video on why there is only 2 gold pipes in 3D World, and why the developers put them there, and if there are more hidden ones that haven’t been found. There is a gold pipe in world 1-2 and one in world 2-1
Same, 3D world is hella underrated
@@notoriousyolkhound4600 I love 3D Land and I never got a Wii U, so I’m definitely going to enjoy 3D World on the Switch.
I have actually collected those 1ups. I don't remember how. I think that it was me and 2 friends. Players jumping one above the other.
I think many people along with me have found that too 😂
I remember finding them as well, and not being happy about it because we found the 1-Ups before the other Green Star which is why we got up there in the first place, plus we did the shell bounce thing for infinite lives so it wasn't all that valuable. We've always played with a full group of four and bouncing off of each others heads was just natural to us.
u can just cat momentum to it from the second green star
It is possible alone i did it myself!
I know another way to get the 1-ups, just quickly rotate the left stick in a circle (multiple times) so your character spins, then jump. It'll make you jump really high before you hit the wall to climb with the cat suit.
This video actually jogged up a forgotten memory of mine. When i was younger I believe my cousin and I actually found that, but didn't think anything important out of it. Thanks for the old memories man lol

There's also one in the ? Block at the start
When I was younger I would spend hours trying to climb up walls on random levels just to find secrets, I’m so happy these were here!
For those wondering, this was likely the developers putting 1-ups where they think it's obtainable and hidden, only for the collision programmers to make it impossible due to steep ramp collision. It's also possible that the map was changed before it was finalized, but because the 1-ups are so out of the way they didn't notice them before release.
This game is so underrated. It is one of my favourite Mario games of all time!
Well looks like the true test of friendship in 3D World, was helping to collect 3 elusive 1-UP Mushrooms all along.
I tried to get up there by grabbing 4 cat suits, and 4 players but my brother was like NO I don't want to see what is up there.
I am so relived to see my childhood dream of seeing what is up there come true.
So you’re telling me those 1ups that me and my brother got were unseen for years

I actually remember finding Galaxy 2’s 1-ups when I was a kid. It was so satisfying seeing my curiosity be rewarded! I never could have known about THESE ones though...
At the start, I thought this was some leftover one ups that were cut content ore something, like other unreachable items
me who had known that secret for 4 years: "interesting"
I. HAVE. BEEN. FUCKING. WAITING. FOR. This video. For years!!!! I discovered these three mushrooms almost seven years ago while playing, and never saw a UA-cam video covering the depth or insanity of it (except for 1-2 others, which also deserved recognition but never got it). Thank you for finally shedding light on this :)
I personally feel like they should have hidden more in this secret spot. Like one of the pipes, a special secret or Easter egg, here in this mysterious spot.
When I was little I went up there just for fun and found those 1-Up, I found it so amazing at the time as I had never seen anyone else talk about them!!
Since they increased the cat climbing time for the switch version of Super Mario 3D world you can now try it for yourselfs!
this is surprisingly easy in the switch version of the game
Funny coincidence! Just earlier today I went to this course on the Nintendo Switch version and scaled this wall easily. I then went online a few minutes later, only for this video to appear in my recommendations! Certainly interesting, great video as always.
It’s amazing the accomplishment I feel after finding a hidden secret in a Mario game. It’s just amazing.
These hidden 1-ups videos are my favorite by you. Please keep looking! lol
Well, i know what i will be trying after this video!
I don't know if you know this or not but in 3-Castle you can reach the bullet bill train at the beginning using peach with a tnooki leaf you can bounce on cat-bullet bills to reach the train. I don't know how intentional this is as there is a 1-up mushroom but its fairly close to where the warp-pipe takes you. Either way its still pretty cool and I don't know if anyone has mentioned it
Wow that's awesome! Good find!! I love finding and seeing others find one ups, specially ones like those
I remember me and my brother were playing this a few years back and really tried to climb that wall, after 30 minutes we actually did the second option you talked about and when we got to the top we were so disappointed that it was just 3 1-ups.
From Mario Galaxy to this, what is Nintendo saying by hiding three lives? Are they telling us that we will never get a life. Well that's just cold
I replayed this game a couple months ago, and you can actually get these 1UPs with just one player. By using a trick to get your climb to last longer, by holding the run button and letting go near the end of your climb, you can get a bit higher. With this trick used on both of your climbs, you can actually reach the top with one player.
good job!
Many years ago, probably four, i was one hundred percenting the game and came across that wall. Being an _average wall climber_ of mario games, i picked up another Wii-mote and got the 1-ups. I love to check on every wall in mario games, because some hide secrets and others are just an achievement. I was so surprised there was something up there, and im happy that more people will know about those mad 1-ups!
Mario bowsers fury is coming on my bday :D
I just thought people ignored then cause lives are so easy to get.
This is the stuff every fan dreams of finding, congratulations man!
Never played the game, but this is just awesome :o
This is something I’ll remember to try on the switch version, along with cat momentum, 1-1 water box, and ice momentum!

I Remember accidently finding these.
In what.. 2014-2015?
It was an accident, and me and my friends kept bopping each other, and we accidently got up there.
Sometimes it’s cool to find hidden 1-Ups, but what usually happens to me is that I rarely lose lives unless it’s a super tricky spot that holds me up for a bit. Then I’ll either find a farming spot on my own or find one on the internet. So, I don’t always need to go out of my way to get these hidden 1-Ups, but this basically falls under learning something new about an older game and that to me is always a thrill. I like having the reaction, “OMG, I never knew about that!” It makes me super happy that no matter how old a game is, there is always a chance that we might discover something neat many years later after it comes out. I love it.
I'm noticing a common theme with hidden/out of bounds 1 ups in 3D Mario games.......
what is it
I’m so exited
I just might cheer
The 3D world video is finally here
Now I’m more excited than ever to play this game online with my friend! It’s been way too long since I played it at his house with his other friends. Those were good times...☺️
I actually knew about this for the longest time, but never mentioned it because I thought no one would be interested to know about it, so I'm happy that this secret has now been revealed for many to know.

I got up this wall ages ago. I think the intended method is to jump on another player to gain extra height so you can climb up the side of the wall, but since I never had anyone else to play with, I had to get creative. I tried climbing up the side of the wall with the cat suit but the wall is just too tall, so I instead used tanooki wall jumps to climb up the part of the wall that bends inwards a bit. I ended up getting on top of the wall and found the 1-Up mushrooms.
0:12 Once again, I thought I knew everything about Super Mario 64. I would have never thought of the idea that punching a butterfly could have any reaction or effect. Of all the Super Mario 64 trivia I've watched/read, not a single one had ever covered the secrets of butterflies. I know this isn't related to the main topic of the video at all but this 5 second clip shocked me the most.
Can we talk about that SMOOTH transition though!
1:22 Me: Ok it's just yet another one of those random overly-detailed games that have an overload of too many pointless things to do or such

Just gotta say I love your videos they're so awesome and I look forward to another one everytime. Just an appreciation comment! Thank you for everything you do Swanky!
I found this! It was a little while ago, but I was messing around when I noticed the wall. I always played as Luigi, and got up the first wall pretty easily but came across the next huge wall. Nowadays, I would've just given up. But I got a second controller out and made it up. I was not happy to see only three one-ups, but I didn't know their history, so I think it's way more interesting now.
I guess these 1-ups were more elusive for players than I thought. Personally when I played this level, I used two player mode as well, but I had P2 bounce on my head as I scaled the wall, and then climbed with them.
Also something to note about the way you regrant the wall, and maybe this isn’t more effective but it is easier, is to use the crouch button once you run out of stamina. This will take you off the wall without wall-kicking off of it. Figured this out while trying to beat the game without jumping
I think I even remember collecting those three 1UPs, because I remember asking my sister to help me as the second player :D
I actually found these on my own awhile back using cat peach and her hover ability. Now I feel cool for finding them on my own with no glitches or cheats!
I didn't realize this was something special because on my first playthrough of the game when it came on the Switch, I found those when exploring for a green star.
Y'know sometimes you can just tell there's gonna be something in those areas but the problem is "who's gonna go find what's actually up there"
This reminds me of the World 1-3 secret from Super Mario 3D Land!
In world 1-3, if you fall off of the first blue platform, it takes you to a pipe leading to a secret room! It took me years to find, and even then, it was completely unexpected.
Swanky box: lets do some multiplayer things here
Looigi: im just gonna wall jump at these 2 rando walls
Damn, I actually remember founding these 1-ups when I was playing with my uncle. We were trying to find a star in the level, then tried climbing there and found the 1-ups
I watched this last week and when I was playing on the switch version and remembered the spot and got there in single player, since everyone got buffed
My brothers and I got these 3 years ago. We used 2 players and used spin jumps to boost each other and you could BARELY climb up there with the cat and Luigi.
I played this stage a few days ago and accidentally came across these 3 1ups lol. Was definitely rewarding to discover by myself
you: We havent talked about Mario 3d world a lot
the only videos ive been recomended of your channel: also mario 3d world
I do remember working hard to get these with my brothers trying to bounce each other up
Holy crap, on my playthrough this month I specifically tried to climb that wall twice and fell in the pit to the side. I wasn't expecting much but wanted to see what was up there, and it ended up there was something!
Just realized that strategy guide will be useful to me again really soon, dang still have the calendar that I got with the book on my wall lol
it's almost like some of these 1 ups were made just for swanky to find them because no casual player would know or even think of doing these unorthodox things in levels lol
Thanks to the increase speed in the new port you are now able to get these 1 ups by your self. I got them with just Mario.
Fun Fact-
The Switch version of 3D world doesn’t require multiplayer to get to the three 1-ups, because you can climb faster
I actually found this a few years ago, Hell I even posted about this on Miiverse, back when that was still a thing. Had no idea these 1-ups were that elusive
This honestly feels like a reference to the hidden 1-ups in galaxy 2 as both are found in a ruins area and require you to do insane stuff to find them
Literally just got it myself without even watching how lol. Did it with a cat suit dive from where the green star is
To be honest I didn't know these were all that hidden. In fact in my fist playthrough of this game I found them. My curiosity led me to finding out how to do the peach speed transfer exploit and I collected them on my first completion of the level. I spent a while exploring every level. Mind you I didn't know whether or not anything was up there when I tried getting up.
Wait, I got these three 1-ups years earlier! I initially saw the wall and wondered if I could climb it, and I used the spin jump cat method shown in this video. I did this in like 2016 on the Wii U, and I didn't think it was a big deal.
Skyforge is pretty neat! I really liked it, except it needs a subscription for players to really get anywhere.
Those 1-ups were harder to discover than the Koopa Troopa Cave glitch
Yay glad to see a bit longer video again
This is cool. I never knew about these 1 -ups
Easiest way to get them is by using a Tanooki Leaf, or using Rosalina's wall jump glitch. I found them when I was looking for Easter eggs a few months back
Update for Bowser’ Fury, it’s REALLY easy now. Just climb up, wall jump and midair dive on top
“3 one ups grouped together is the ultimate treasure trove for a curious player”
Me: Three Bro Lives
Huh, I actually found these years ago while playing in multiplayer! Never realized they were impossible to obtain without a second player.
Short story. The first time I played this game was when it just came out. My cousin bought the game and had played the game before hand. The first level I played was this one and I when I found out cat suit can climb walls, I told him I wanted to climb every wall here. So we actually found these 1-UPs on the first try.
In the first Train level in the game (idk which world), on the second train (the red bullet bill, next to the bowser one), there are boxes on the end of it, next to 3 bullet bill cannons, and in one of the boxes there's a 1 up, but from as far as I know, the only way to get onto that train (through a pipe), spawns you next to the Banzai Bill canon, which is too far away to make it to the boxes, because it's an autoscrolling level. Could you please document how you're supposed to get there? Because I have no idea.
