  • Another West Coast Mainline feast this time from Milton Keynes. This programme is still available in hard-copy DVD from www.linesidevideos.com. If you like our channel, do please subscribe. Many thanks.
Some more sparks effects as we spend a number of different sessions witnessing trains at this busy WCML station - we also call at Wolverton to see the action next to the ‘curves’.
Filmed in 1987 this programme is a perfect accompaniment to Modern Traction Archive: Vol 6, which studied electrics at work up and down the WCML. In this programme we see diesel as well as electric-hauled trains.
Highlights include, BR-blue class 86s and 87s on passenger and freight; class 81s and 85s on freight, class 85s on passenger and parcels workings; pairs of 87s on container trains, class 310 EMUs in action, blue/grey class 317 on driver training duties and even a Midlands’ Yellow-liveried class 312 unit. In addition we have a class 20, a class 56, a class 47 and class 31s on freight.
The class 31s appear on parcels, ecs and ballast workings: highlight is the appearance of a class 08 on the mainline with a speedlink trip working. It’s all here - if you want the fast and furious, mixed with the slow and leisurely, then the action through this station certainly fits the bill - it’s real nostalgia time!
This programme is ideal for reminiscing or for modellers keen to see yesteryear consists.

So there were only four through tracks through the station then then? Platform 6, and the through track through platform 1, didn't exist then 🤔
