  • Made a video of the update kit from eeuroparts because I couldn't find one on here. By no means am I an expert. ... But I struggled through the diagrams and finally figured out the correct way to route the kit. Hope this helps someone.

I personally own a 99 9-3 so I have a T5 engine and don't have this problem but it sure is nice to see this vid as it effects many SAAB owners.
    Ron also dropped some Gems.
    Good stuff.

Thanks mate, it was a great help. Just completed the same replacement tonight. Your vid helped me avoid a few time consuming errors. You're right about the diagram,it was definitely confusing!
In case you haven't already done it, just a reminder to desludge the sump and clean the oil pickup. Or even replace the pickup mesh with something not as fine. My 2002 9-3 with only 50k miles on it was 30% blocked. There are plenty of instructional sites out there. Now,...I'm gunna have too many beers,

Thank you so very much for the video. I just bought a 2002 9-3 T with 90,000 miles on it and I've been chasing problem after problem with it. Got the same update kit from EEuro and the online pdf isn't meant for novices. I had no clue either. Seeing the arrows on the lines once installed helped a lot. There's still a few things I still don't get but this helped me get started.
    Wish me luck...
And again, thank you for posting this.

If the 9-3 is similar to the 9-5, the check engine light may indicate a fault in throttle body assembly. The throttle body solenoid may be in "limp home mode". Take at look at that, it may address the problem. Good video.

Ended up replacing the throttle body. Runs like a champ

The kit replaces the oil “catch” can and then delivers the excess sludge blow by directly into the oil crankcase. Less chance of blowing the oil out as my 93 did.

Thanks for vid. I have a 2003 9-3 Linear and the check engine light has been on since I bought it. It says it’s the throttle body, so maybe it’s the same problem. At least I know where to look.

    Ricky,
I ended up replacing the oil trap that same day. It was fairly easy to get to without getting underneath the car. As far as the Tubes go.... It's hard for me to explain. I just replaced the ones that came with the kit.

Apprishiate your effort, like your sence of humor. Understand that you are like most of us when it comes to sollutions, cant help that I getting a feeling of some old comedy episodes frome faulty towers, or an american classic: whats on second base...
Anyhow thanks for your video, it was entertaining.

You should mention a check valve is just that "a Check" it will only allow flow in one direction. Be sure you don't flip it around or you may have oil going every where like one of the post describe.

    Hey thanks for the video.
I've looked hours to find a video on this. I could also let a mecanic do it
but it looks not too complicated

Yes in my experience mechanics aren't needed for most fixes.

Must be something wrong with the kits they bought or it wasn't installed correctly. I have driven roughly 20k miles since the update and haven't had any problems at all. Runs strong as can be. Best of luck

Oil trapped its the name i believed i change that on my prior car that was a volvo. That part in a volvo gets clog n creates a pressure on the engine n its like sludge buildup n its what kills the engine quicker.. The funny thing in my case is u have to take the fuil rail n alot of stuff that was the first time ever i done working on a car i know the basics cause muat of the times il take it to the shop no problen but that time i had to i educated my self i saw over 200 videos about volvos on youtube i took that oil trap without taking the whole fuel rail n everything dont feel bad let those comments come cause that shows one thing u took step up. My younger he started just like you n myself workin on his car. I saw him taking the whole engine on his 350 he rebuilt it put it back in. Hey theres some people who say they know that know way more then those they know..mm but the only thing they Know is not acceptin their mistakes

+blake jones I have a 2000 9/3 T5 and the recall was updated and seems fine, however, running synthetic motor oil and a high grade oil filter (Bosch D3330) is what really keeps sludge buildup to a minimum.

Hi Blake. Man I'm working on fixing my girlfriends Saab. She needs this update. Since July, where you chose not to replace the oil trap (the box with the two lower male tubes), did you ever replace it, or are you OK with having left the old one on?
Secondly I can't see which hoses go on to all those 3 (looks like one on top and two on bottom?? How many and which ones get new hoses from the kit? Thanks. Rick

I recommend keeping the old pcv system. This update has failed me and other Saab owners I know. You'll see what I mean when oil starts blowing out everywhere after you put in the update.

+blake jones I see it as highly recommended. The mechanic I worked with even told me that he goes back to the original set up for many of his customers. Thanks.

      Blown turbo

    • @TheIntriguingii
      @TheIntriguingii 7 років тому

Could be blown head gasket check for water bubbles or antifreeze in the oil. Can cause the turbo to shoot steam out the exhaust. Nano liquid head gasket repair works like a champ and sells for under 20 bucks. Must flush all antifreeze out of system before using product. Follow directions carefully and it works like a champ in under 30 minutes.
