I'm a simple Washingtonian, I see a video about my state, and I click
Same
Same 😅
Same
Same😊
Yeah I also live in Washington and this is the only reason I know about it and I'm replying to thia
Fantastic! You pronounced everything just like a person NOT from WA! Between that and the fact that the only people who use umbrellas here AREN'T from here, those are the dead giveaways of a tourist/visitor!!! Try pronouncing this one: Sequim... 🤣 Great video! Thanks from us rusty people in WA!!!
Cle Elum would’ve also been a problem
its pronounced skim
As somebody whose lived in Washington their whole life, I’ve never heard that word before.
I'm a Native Washingtonian. I was laughing so hard I almost peed my pants 😂😭🤣
I'm dying to know how he would have said Wenatchee, since we're literally named "The Apple Capital of the World!"
I would love to hear 101 more Washington facts. Hell you could make a whole series about this state!!!
"Spokane"
Yakima in a native tribe, most of our names for towns and countys are native names.
Wenatchee was named after the Wenatchi tribe
Born and raised, but King County is the most populous not the largest, that’s Okanagan County.
yeah, i am from skagit and i was like "uhh no...(and that is not how you pronounce Yakima)".
I'm jn love with Washington state. I'm from Colombia and lived there for a year as an exchange student, after that, fell in love with it, the people, the land, culture, the music. Fuck, I love Washington!
Love Colombia county from Kitsap
Surprised he did not take more on the east side of our state. Dry Falls was the world's largest waterfall at 3.5 miles wide with a 400 foot drop.
I am glad they didn’t less they know the less the people over there
@@moosenbeans903 I always till out of staters that it rains all the time and eventually they will have web feet like the rest of us.
@@willardwooten9582 ahaha I tell people we only grow three things pine needles moss and mildew in our brains. Waked up to work it was raining there was a super skinny lady standing with a long coat and a umbrella (1st clue) smoking a cig “ hi” “ hi does it rain like this all the time” me “ move back to California now” walked in. Hey who is that lady out there? Oh she is the new C.O.O. Oh shit nice working with you. We became friends
Man no one ever talks about dry falls i used to go fishing there with my family at sun lakes when i was growin up. I remember seeing rattlesnakes sunbathing on rocks on shore from our boat.
@@ethanbehnke4103 Went their as a B.S.A. for a week working on merit badges in early 60s. Killed my 1st rattler with a rock as we tried to get by.
One thing you could have discussed is the diversity of weather. Sure Seattle gets rain. But Spokane can get everything from rain to blizzards to over 105 degree (40C) summers to dust storms and even tornados. We also have things like the Moses Lake landing strip which is now an alternate landing zone for re-entering space shuddles in case of emergencies. There are so many interesting things about this state because it is such a diverse place. I can go from a true desert to snow covered mountain passes to a temperate rainforest in the amount of time it might take someone to make it through rush hour traffic on the 405 in LA. Pretty amazing if you ask me
Thats very true. Ive been to moses lake plenty of times. Washington also has some of the best fishing in the world. Isnt the Olympic rainforest the only rainforest in the US? Im not sure so please dont destroy me.
it will be raining one minute in spokane and then you look away and there is sleet. the weather is kinda whack lmao
Damn… I’m from Moses and didn’t even know that😂😂
Live in Moses Lake, the landing strip currently holds a bunch of dysfunctional Boeing airplanes that cannot be flown. Love that you mentioned my city!!!
Love this video! Just one little correction: it's YA-kima (with a short 'a' sort of like 'yeah'), not Ya-KI-ma. Kudos on correcting yourself with Spokane, though! 😁👍
pyoo-al-up, grand coo-lee, med-eye-na, yah-ka-ma.
We buy sunglasses because we lose sunglasses.
Being from Yakima the way this man pronounced it I’ve never heard it before 🤣🤣🤣
I’m from Yakima as well, and he pronounced it the exact same way Alex Trebek did every time it was in a Jeopardy clue.
I lived in yakima for a while its alright though the onlything i did was go to school i never actually seen the whole town
I have lived in Washington my whole life. Its an awesome state.
Yo Washington homie!!!
I live in Wenatchee Washington the Apple capital of the world and it just so happens to also be a dessert, we don't get much rain here in the middle of the state.
Yo homie fellow wenatcheean here
As a Vancouver native (not the one from before Jesus) I appreciate you listing us in your large city fact. Too often we get lumped in with Portland because we are soooo close but we are a proud people and deserve to be mentioned
As someone who is 15 miles from Seattle I respect your pride and Honor your city. It's a good place with some amazing views
@@Zaron_Gaming hell yeah fellow Washingtonian
I lived there all through high school Went to Bay sadly, but hey we can not win them all. Anyway moved to Spokane for school. I've lived here 10 years now. And... Every... Freaking time I mention missing Vancouver people still think I'm talking about frickin Canada!!!! People its not even that far from here. Ugg
Vancouver not BC Washington Not DC home sweet home
Vancouver so much better then Portland
I've lived in Washington all my life, I've been to most other states and I 100% confirm that this the BEST state with the highest quality of life. It is the perfect haven in a rather dismal, unconvincing 1st world country. Life would seriously be intolerable if didn't live here as a U.S. citizen. I would rather beg Canada to take me or move to my husband's European country than to live anywhere else here, with the exception of Oregon. I hope it never changes. I love Washington. ♥️
My favourite part was when he talked about Washington state
Same
I'm a Washington Native. Yakima is pronounced: Yak-ah-ma. Puyallup is pronounced: Poo-al-ip. Spokane is pronounced: Spoke-ann. (I know it isn't spelled that way.) Also, for what ever reason, in Des Moines WA, the S is not silent. We also have the most powerful tectonic fault off the coast. The San Juan is capable of 9.2 earth quakes. It typically unzips about every three hundred years. The last quake was in 1700. You can do the math.
I am also a from wa and disagree. Yak-ih-mah, pew-allup, spoh-can. In sure we can agree that californians have ruined our traffic habits. And oregonians are only slightly less bad drivers
101 facts about Heavy Metal! 🤘🏼
It sounds like a perfect place to live. And it has rain. I love rain
You'd love it here in Hawaii(Hilo side) it rains here 130 inches a year that is 235 days a year, it's raining now!
It really is the perfect place to be
BC is better.
@@gumpyoldbugger6944 Might be better up there but BCers coming down here is f*cking TRAAAASH! Can't drive. Can't shop. Can't GTFO of the way. Best thing to happen to WA was the border closing.
@@gumpyoldbugger6944 I love B.C!! The week before I moved to Hawaii I spent it in B.C. in the FRC, if I wasn't living here in Hawaii that is where I would want to be.
Yes, I grew up in Washington state, lived in both.eastern and western Washington. I now live Oregon, as Washington became too expensive to live there.I still
Visit there to get together with friends. I will always be a Northwesterner!
He literally only talked about 1/4th of the state lol. Seattle only accounts for a small amount of Washington. Eastern Washington exist too you know! For example, the Columbia Basin located in Washington is actually considered a desert and has a surface similar to the surface of Mars. NASA comes to the “Potholes ORV park” to test there rovers and what not before sending them to space! Moses lake has one of the largest runways in the country, so large in fact that a space shuttle can be landed on it. Just saying, could have expanded past Seattle for some interesting facts...
I noticed this in the many Washington State videos I have watched on UA-cam and other documentaries about the State, they overlook Eastern Wa. I even Lived near Seattle for 10 years , there is a definite class division . Eastern Washington Has a different kind of beauty, I feel and see it in our people here, there are days I wake to see clear blue skies with views of two mountains (Rainer and Adams) We have spectacular sunsets ,wonderful hot summers , Fresh Asparagus and other great produce at the Farmer's Market , Fantastic Fall Colors the smell of Grapes is heady in autumn and nearby things to do with friends with the many wineries and fishing and floating the river. The people are friendly I am proud to be an Eastern Washington resident my family has been in Yakima Valley for over 155 years, Great -Great Grandpa came over in a covered wagon and we've been here ever since.
Its annoying when all people talk about is seattle for the rest of us on the east side
You should do a 101 facts video on the Italian-American Mafia

My state was one of the first to legalise gay marriage did not know that Proud Washingtonian
Another US state.....
Yipeeeeeese!
Can you sense the sarcasm? How about you do videos about your own country rather than kissing arse?
1:24 It's pronounced Spo-can...
11:39 It's pronounced Cool-lee
15:36 It's pronounced Ya-ka-ma...
Hey, Sam. Can you please do 101 facts about Belgium? They made the delicious chocolate there.
Being someone from Puyallup I was dying when he pronounced it so wrong😂 its (pue all up)
I’m surprised he didn’t mention wizards of the coast. Magic the gathering, Pokémon cards, D&D, etc.
3rd comment I’m geeking out over the fact transition slide being the Monroe bridge, something I can walk to from my house. Thank you Sam I needed this, idk if you saw my other comments and this influenced you to make this but thank you regardless 🥲🥲
I’m a bus ride away from it, I’m pretty excited about this video, even if he pronounced Spokane like “spo-cane” at first
That was totally inaccurate too much about Seattle way too much about Seattle you missed out the whole point of Washington State
Enjoyable, but you really need to check out locality pronunciations!
I live in Washington State, and you could not see all the great places in a short time. It will take months. By that time you could fall in love with the state.
Homie
I live on the south east of the state by hanford and if I was to put anything in to this video I would say Washington is split in two one side is a rain forest and the other is a high desert.
YES no one ever talks about the eastern side! I also live near Handford, so have been there and know multiple people who work there, and it is such an important part of the states history.
I am from a small town just outside of Yakima I’m glad we got a couple mentions because the east side rarely gets them I also got a good chuckle out of the pronunciations
First viewer again yipeee!!!🎊🎊🎉

If its not an American state he’s not interested unfortunately
@@Iamtheliquor 😂😂😂😂😂
@@tonney8108 id love to see videos about other countries but he is over obsessed with US states and as a British citizen i find it embarrassing
@@Iamtheliquor It's all about 50 US states and very few African countries.
There has only been 3 videos to do with Africa. 😂😂 A continent of 54 countries.
Wow, You butchered almost every city name in this video.
If I were doing a video that had place names I didn't know how to pronounce I would call the city Hall or Library or someplace in that town and say "How do you pronounce the name of your city?" then you are assured your getting it right. I live in Yakima County and we say it "Yak- I -Mah"
What about sleepless in Seattle and you forgot to mention the 1919 November 11th wobbly massacre in Centralia Washington. And you said it's supposed to be 101 facts about Washington you did 90% of it in and around you also missed out about historical nature that Centralia Washington founded by George Washington a black man and I think that might be another town in Washington that was founded by a black so I would suggest you redoing your facts and making another one and learning more about Washington then just the Seattle area
It's the most beautiful state and has a pretty balanced weather pattern assuming you love rain :P Stays around the 50-80 degrees. Wait you said Spokane wrong lol. Spo-can. I didn't choose Washington but I'll never leave. It's truly blissful. Yes it's extremely confusing to outsiders and annoying when they keep getting Washington state and D.C mixed up. It happens more than you guess... mount Ruh-near. Outsiders really struggle with the pronunciation.. another thing you get used to
I live in Everett and yes the Boeing building is massive. It used to be one of the biggest employers around here during these years a lot of people were fired..
On the naval side brementon naval port was used a ton during WW2 for repairs and staging. It's still used. Everett at one point was home to a big carrier the Abraham Lincoln and the naval crews really helped grow the city before it was transfered out a few years ago. We still have a few warships here but those are destroyers and frigates.
Pu-al-up.
Mt rainier is pronounced rain-nier its original name is mt tahoma though.
Puyallup is also pronounced pew-wallup btw
some things missed:The TV series northern exposure was filmed in the town of Rosylyn,The world famous Omak stampede suicide race, All the outdoor hunting scenes for the movie the deer hunter were filmed at artist point at the MT baker ski area,MT Shuksan at MT baker ski area the most beautiful and possibly the most photographed mountain in the the world! The Museum of flight, Dry falls (biggest water fall ever on the face of the earth),Bruce and Brandon lees grave sites etc....
hi there! hope y'all are having a great heatwave!!
Yeah its boiling in Terra del fuego.....
The Uk is pretty much on fire right now :P we all ask for warmer weather but this is not what we meant XD
3rd gen oly wa.
Been living around South Puget Sound my whole life.
if you move here, be sure to get liquid sun! (Vitamin B teas)
You won't tan, but you will rust!
As a Washingtonian I have to give you kudos as our names are rough. It’s no longer the Puyallup Fair but rather just the Washington State Fair so you’re off the hook for that one.
Also, most Washingtonians get super irked about Seattle. They’re are SO many cool things about Washington. You didn’t talk about The Evergreen State College in Olympia for example. Creator of the Simpson’s Matt Greoing is an alumni. Kirk Cobain is from Aberdeen NOT Seattle. Tacoma provided a majority of the materials for the Disneyworld’s monorail.
I love how washington attracts intelligent people from all parts of the globe.
Yes, hence the lowest church/cult membership of all the U.S. 👍👏
Shite
Thumbs down
I love is Washington and it’s a great state to live in.
I live in a state of fear
Well Seattle actually hasn't been raining that much from my experience it only rained like twice in the last month or two
Contrary to popular myth it only rains a lot here in the winter. Summer is mostly rain free.
this aged well. it is actually raining alot. loved the snow tho
Had to do a double take on the vancouver in seattle. im canadian and vancouver is super close to the border so i thought there was a mistake. Turns out there is a Vancouver, WA. I guess i learned something.
Same 😮
Yep when I tell people I'm from Vancouver people almost always think I'm Canadian. We have shirts here that say "Vancouver not BC Washington not DC"
I didn’t realize how many people didn’t know about Vancouver WA. It’s the 4th largest city in WA with around 200,000 people
Thank you for mispronouncing Spokane. We on the Westside do that to piss off the East 1:24
Born and raised in Vancouver WA it's kinda weird hearing places from my home state ( other than Seattle which I hear mentioned all the time) said so much on this channel
Spo... cane? Hearing Spokane pronounced like that hurts
yeah right, i was really confused
Right!!
I call this 101 ways to butcher names of places in Washington State yikes

I have been to Washington many many times and really enjoy the State. I have many friends that live there. I am a Canadian myself.
you said Spokane wrong. it's pronounced Spo can.

Hello from sedro woolley, Washington!
Wow
Dude screwed up pronouncing Yakima
Not to mention Yakima and Yakama are different things
did he just say vancouver is in washington?
There is a Vancover in Washington besides the larger one in British Columbia. I did not know that either, before looking it up after being irritated by that fact.
Yes it is
Yes it’s in Washington. Just north of Portland Oregon with around 200,000 residents
I can't help but laugh at all of his pronunciations. I guest Native American names are hard? Lol
They are
Born there. Lived there off and on. It's a great state, but the state is so expensive and a lot of the people will think they're better than you.
Because we are
Puyallup is pronounced pew-all-up. Most of our place names are difficult though lol
Spokane is the least difficult and he said spo-cane

Lots of places have more rainfall by volume than Seattle/western Washington. It's just that we have so many cloudy days with very light rain.
I like to say it doesn’t “rain a lot” so much as “sprinkle frequently” 😆

💭🧐 Why would the tallest mnt in this state be named after a British soldier who fought AGAINST the U.S.? 💭 Didn't the Natives of this area call Rainier, " Tahoma?" I think Washingtonians need to rethink this issue & choose a more appropriate name for their highest peak! Tahoma would be perfect 👍.

3/4 of these facts were just about the west of the Cascades, essentially the greater Seattle area. Central and Eastern Washington are very extremely different. So many of the name pronunciations are so painfully wrong. Seattle is not the entire state!
I live in Zillah! From Sunnyside the teapot is cool attraction but besides that there is nothing else here also the pumps don’t work it’s all for show it used to be on the highway it was relocated into town.
Also Yakima comes from the Yakima nation a native group here in Washington. It’s not that hard to look up.
