  • For the first time, a 42mm Fifty Fathoms has entered the standard production catalogue for Blancpain. Measuring at 42.3mm in diameter, 14.3mm thick, and 47mm lug-to-lug, it may not be the thinnest option against its co-members of the trinity of dive watch icons but it is the most compact across the wrist lug-to-lug - very exciting news for those looking for a more wearable iconic diver.

    I just tried on this watch at the AD with the rubber and Titanium strap/bracelet....the size of case is now very wearable.

    I have the 45mm FF 5015, black dial titanium on the bracelet. This watch is built like a tank; solid. Yet so finely finished. It's beautiful, robust, reliable, mega accurate all while being understated. I love it. I got mine for a smidge over 25% off.
    If the 42mm version is anything like it's sibling, I absolutley recommend it. If you're worried about the 42mm size, know that it will wear smaller than that. I suggest trying it on if you are able to do so. The sticking point is the price. If you want one of these, be patient. Wait for them to start filtering through on the secondary market over the next 12-24 months, then all being well, you should be able to find one at a more reasonable price.

    I have the Ti FF on a the bracelet. I bought OEM nato and sail cloth. They each require their own pin buckle as the nato is wider. So I wear all 3 configurations. That said, sail cloth dresses it up but is the least comfortable. It’s stiff even after lots of break in. Nato is by far the most comfortable. Bracelet is a good summer option.

    I have the Bathyscaphe on the sail cloth/rubber strap with pin buckle. It's my favorite strap not on a folding clasp. It doesn't have the friction problem that rubber straps have. And I haven't noticed any fraying of the stitching like I had on my Dark Side of the Moon watch. That's my pick.

    Today I tried on the blue dial in titanium with rubber strap and sailcloth strap. Very nice watch and the bezel movement is truly unique - very precise and smooth, and less metallic sounding than a Rolex Submariner - I think it’s rotating on ceramic or the like. It’s pricy but you should be able to negotiate a hefty discount to at most ADs - avoid the boutiques.

    I have the FF “Dark Knight” in 45mm and a FF Chrono, also in 45mm both with sail canvas strap, which is by far the most comfortable and best looking piece for the FF. No need to downsize to 42mm for me but can understand many with thinner wrists will feel happy to wear it finally.

Insane…Who is going to pay that ? Not me . I would pay ten grand for one pre owned on a tropic strap,otherwise no thanks. The 42mm is more expensive than the 45mm for less material. I get it might be the price of novelty, but it still feels weird given that the 45mm remains available. Apart from the case size, and the slightly different dial, did anyone spot other differences?

    • @swampThaang
      @swampThaang 16 днів тому

      titanium rather than steel

    • @benjzh
      @benjzh 15 днів тому

      @@swampThaang No, I was comparing the same materials in different sizes. For instance, the blue version with canvas strap, in titanium, has ref. 5015 12B40 O52A in 45mm and is cheaper than the new one in 42.3mm with ref. 5010 12B40 O52B (CHF 15‘600 vs. CHF 16‘900 in Switzerland). The only difference in the tech. specs. apart from case size is a folding clasp in the new 42mm model vs. pin buckle in the 45mm size. Another subtle difference is in the dial. But anyways, nothing to really justify the price difference, apart from novelty, I suppose.
