      diego mx In Portugal and especially Spain there's a lot to do and life is exiting. Lithuania is more relaxing and very clean, but the people is still not up to western standards in terms of being open minded. Germany is just OK in my taste, but very clean and organized. kiev is not as clean and gorgeous, but I like that city more.

    Thank you so much. My soul is crying - I miss this simplicity and joy. Currently I live in Colorado, USA. No people walking on the streets over here.I like here,but hey,Ukraine/Kiev is/will always be in my heart.I grew up there.I love it forever.I know the streets that you are walking on.I used to go for a walk there after the school.My school was not far away from Besarabskiy Rinok(Bazar).You are going straight to Maidan Nezalezhnosti (The Independence Square) I recognized every single building

    I was in Kiev in 2011, very sad what is going on there. It is a beautiful city and I hope that it see's peace and much prosperity in the near and distant future. Your video capture of Independance Square is how I remember it, I hope it comes back to that.

    If you notice, one side of the Kretschatik (odd numbers) has newer buildings. It was completely ruined during the war and my mother worked there, cleaning the debris, making room for new construction.

    I lie Kyiv very much also, and I've made that same walk 100's of times. FYI, those steps you mention thinking that they go to the subway are actually underground walkways to cross the busy streets in downtown Kyiv. Also down there are some very large , multi floor underground shopping "malls". The subway in Kyiv is called a "Metro", and they're entrances are marked with a capital M. On the weekends, Kreschatik street is closed to vehicles, and especially in the summer, continue

    It's absolutely unbelievable!!! In the very beginning you show the building with the address "Basseynaya, 19" (Бассейная, 19). I was born there in 1947 in the 3-story building, which still exist, behind the one you see in the video (built in early 60's, I think) My father's very big family lived there since 1917 until my last living 2 aunts left the USSR in 1979. My mother was born on the same street, Basseynaya 3, in 1917. Her parents and 3 older sisters, and a brother, lived there even before the October Revolution. Their story is very similar to my father's, except they were able to get only one room out of 4, when they returned home right after Kiev was liberated in 1943. More...

    Right on, how do you like the people/women of Kiev/Ukraine compared to other countries of the region: balkans/Serbia/central/eastern Europe and nordic Europe. Fairly equal? Any favorite? (if you've visited all of them) I intend to visit in late August/early Sept., but only for 10 days, so I want to be amongst as much beauty as possible.

  • @TravelandAudio
    @TravelandAudio  12 років тому

    No, I thought it was British slang for BMW. we call them Bimmers here.
    Yes Kiev is very beautiful and has many parks and places of interest. I will be back in Odessa and kiev in 12 days to be precise.

    I will be visiting in May, hopefully the weather will be nice and not too cold. I will just stay in Kyiv and maybe visit Chornobyl, depending on the situation... I would like to visit the churches, operas and the cathedrals. Female, traveling alone. How safe is it?

    • @TravelandAudio
      @TravelandAudio  10 років тому +1

      My recommendations to you is to stay on the city center around Kreschatik at night and during the day visit the monuments. Safety has to be observed by everybody, females or males equally. All cities have bad neighborhoods and please don't be carried away by the feeling that you are in a different country. Be careful and especially at night. I always walk at night around Kreschatik as there are many policemen and there's a lot of people, never walk on lonely places.

    • @toxicwaste920
      @toxicwaste920 10 років тому

      manzanaresantonio Thank you for the recommendations. I am planning to stay of course near the center along Kreschatik near maidan square, i believe? I will be with a trusted tour guide/friend during my entire trip. I appreciate your response. I also wanna eat at that famous puzata hata. :)

    • @TravelandAudio
      @TravelandAudio  10 років тому +1

      toxicwaste920 Oh nice, when are you going?
      I am planning to be there in May. Prices for the apartments and Hotels are dirty cheap now as the value of the Hryvnia and dollars has decreased. I want to recommend you to carry U.S. dollars with you as most ATM cards will not work in Ukraine as Western banks are afraid of your account being stolen and they will withdraw all your money, the bank is responsible for this, so they will always block your card. I always carry a good amount because of this.

    • @toxicwaste920
      @toxicwaste920 10 років тому

      Oh wow about the banks, I am of course going to plan to call them all to make sure they know I'll be traveling to Kiev. I have done it before with Philippines and the later is worst than Ukraine. I will be there in May 17-24, My flight will be on May 16. For the same reason as you, everything there is cheaper now because of what's going on. So far, the war ended.. or so we thought. But I've been assured Kiev should be OK.

    • @TravelandAudio
      @TravelandAudio  10 років тому

      toxicwaste920 I let them know 2 weeks before I leave an still my debit or credit card doesn't work. I have to be calling them in order for it to work. It's a pain in the butt. You don't want to be caught without money in a different country, it is horrible and scary.!

    This is not Train Station entrance, though it looks like one. If you stop the video at 03:20 you will read Biesarabki Center (Kbartal) which is a Mall. I went there with my wife Tetiana, I bought a french suburban car Renaul Kangoo Diesel, Manual tran for $24K year 2009, and I learned the few different road signs in Ukraine. Most signs are easier than in USA. Do not rent a car, because you will not have good insurance to pay it off, if it gets stolen.

    First, the family owned it, than lived in one 5-room apartment in the 3rd floor, and then, after the war, could get only 3 rooms (my father took it by force when he returned from the war), because the other 2 were taken by some people, who stayed in Kiev during Nazi's occupation, while members of my family were either in the Army fighting, or evacuated. I stay by Kreshchatik which is the main avenue and I always go to bars and clubs in the area, otherwise I would recomend you to take a cab if you will be leaving this area as Ukrainians told me to be careful as there are always scumbacks try to get something out of tourists. On Krechshatik there's always people walking around and there's also policemen walking on this area... The clubs are awsome and there are always beautiful girls, they implement the face control at the entrance.

    Well, The girls are mostly very attractive, thin or in shape, they are very classy for the most part, they really know how to dress(where do they get the money from? no idea), they are very sensual and use their femenine attributes, the clubs play real dance music, not trashy rap or top 40's(radio station music).
