A perfect example of how these animals really just want to avoid humans at all cost and aren’t simply out to get you. I’ve never seen a snake that makes that so abundantly clear. It truly is all “HISS & no bite” fascinating.

Poor will Robertson’s channel didn’t even get a shout out for assisting in the finding of these snakes. Go give the guy some love his channel needs it far more than brave wilderness does.
Super informative! Hognose Snakes are very cute. I hope this will help show people that snakes aren’t too scary, and just want to go about their business. ^_^
Since you've now done an episode on the Hognose, you should definitely look into making one about Kenyan Sand Boas. They aren't necessarily related AFAIK but Hognoses and KSB are often grouped together for a few reasons. KSB's are one of, if not t h e, best snake for people who have a fear or dislike/distrust of snakes. One of the few species out there that can safely be free handled frequently. These things are as docile and chill as they come and they're what I'd consider to be a perfect size for a beginner snake. Quite easy to take care of in captivity too. Have had my little guy for nearly 3 years now and handle him on a near daily basis and have only been struck once or twice since the day I got gim, which were both total accidents on my part and not at all acts of hostility from him. I tried to pick him up after it'd been about a week and a half since his last feeding and the poor fella thought my finger was his pinkie mouse. Drew a very slight amount of blood but hardly any pain whatsoever after the initial bite. Washed the bite with soap and water, fed him, then a couple hours later I was back to free handling him as usual. They honestly remind me more of oversized earthworms than snakes with their tempermant and behaviour haha. All they want to do is dig and burrow, be it inside of their enclosure, or into your clothing if you're handling them. It's just adorable man. It sucks that they're relatively unknown conpared to other species like milk snakes and Hognoses in the hobby. They're so loveable and are about as safe for people as any snake could possibly be. Relatively cheap as well. The perfect noodle for anyone looking for a snake that can be handled, is inexpensive, simple to care for, and doesn't grow to be massive.
You grew so much in the past 7 years. You literally made my childhood and I appreciate you so much! Keep up the good work, your videos are absolutely amazing!
That's not a real hognose snake. j/k. Will Robertson Wildlife is an AMAZING channel. Dude knows his stuff, go check it out, I agree with Coyote on this one!
It's pretty awesome that 4 different defence strategies of a hognose is featured by 1 individual specimen each, and they have different color variations nonetheless.
Speaking of dead animals.. My daughter said she saw something threw our fence for 2 days and she said it looked like our neighbors head. it was actually a dead mom opossum with 5 babies! So we took care of the babies and sent them to a place were they can be cared for and released. We let the mom decompose.
if you are from sweden you dont have to be scared of snakes at all. the only venomous species is not even dangerous to people. as long as you teach your kids not to mess with an adder its fine. they are venomous but not deadly unless you have big health problems. and all the other species are totaly harmless.
Great video guys! I didn’t realize that there were so many different colors of the hognose......well wild ones anyways. Thanks for another amazing video! Have a wonderful day!!! 😄💙🐬🐊🐍
Missed the best part of hognoses - if you flip them right side up while they're playing dead, they'll flip back upside down again. "No, really, I'm dead!"
I found a Hognose doing its playing dead in the middle of the road near my house. Not wanting the snake to get hit by any incoming cars, I gently scooted him off into the ditch, then ran my errand, returning an hour later to check up on the snake. Yep, he had safely crawled away while I was on my errand. It felt pretty good knowing that I had ensured that the beautiful snake was able to live.
Great information about Hognosed snakes! You should of givin "Will Robertson" credit in the the description. Will has a great channel that you all should go check out!

I have a question. How are you able to survive the most dangerous animals and insects and not get sent to the hospital. I mean do you have antidotes for when something poisonous bites you
Hey brave wilderness! Just wanted to Say, Thank you for inspiring so Many poeple to discover more about the Amazing animals that live on our planet. And Thank you for sharing so much information, and adressing some false accusations that Many wild animals are susceptible to.
Good video guys, I know you got lots of heat recently from some others, hope you guys worth things out, great video though, love these snakes, you found some gorgeous ones.
I remember the first time I ever came across one of these in the wild. I was about 10 and I thought it was an escaped Cobra, because it gave a really good hood display. 😂
It still needs to be stated, Hognose snakes are still venomous just like Garter snakes. They have little venom teeth at the back of the mouth. Getting bit is probably unlikely to happen, YET, because of the venom, if you should get bit, there is a possibility of an anaphylactic reaction if you are allergic. Just like some people are with bees. But other than that, they are pretty much safe.
I know "hooding" usually is used to look bigger, but could it be in this case (also) to match the head-shape of a copperhead or a rattlesnake? Look how it widens it's jawline.
I love hognose snakes they are so dramatic. But they can bite and when they do they basically latch on and start chewing in their mild venom with those rear fangs. It can cause an infection so make sure to clean the bite well but should be no worse than a bee sting
They 100% will bite. My friend has one and it bit him and wouldn't let go for a good almost 10 min. He had a small reaction to it with swelling, redness and itching, and soreness
@@Aprilann871 they’re so cute and i was planning of having one but realistically I wouldn’t even dare to touch a snake(i really hate them) and my family would think that im a psychopath lol
