Reuniting a 102-year-old Battle of Britain veteran with his Hurricane

- In 1940, during the Second World War, Jeff Brereton was an RAF mechanic. He worked on the Hurricanes that took part in the Battle of Britain. When we discovered that the Hurricane Jeff worked on during the battle was still airworthy, we set about organising a very special reunion.

102??? He looks no more than 70. What an absolute legend. Thank you Sir for your generation and the sacrifices you all made for our Country. God bless you all.
His mind is still as sharp as it ever would have been! Just goes to show the secret to longevity is keeping your mind active, even when your body doesn't work anymore!
Yeah just incredible isn’t it? So happy that he got to be reunited with the same plane he worked on all those years ago!
No more than 70? You’re delusional.
I cannot believe he is 102! By the fluidity of his motions and his speech, he seems more like he is 60-70! Incredible man, and wonderful he got to see the Hurricane again!
Certainly the capabilities of a man in his seventies. Blessed with good genes, that many of us just don't get.
That was just magical to see this wonderful man having a flight in a WW2 plane! Well done to you sir! Thank you for what you did back then! My mum passed away aged 95 in Sept 2019! My mum was in the W.R.A.F and we used to talk about lots of her experiences back then and how Britain really had its back to the wall! We cannot thank all your generation enough for giving us the life we now have! Thank you ever so much! 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌
Imagine he is one of so few, who did so much for so many, only to have the whole thing (UK) turn to trash because of the EU.
@@kyleb3754 The EU has nothing to do with this video and you may not have noticed, but we are not in the EU anymore and that is part of the reason why that the UK economy is almost in recession.
@@keithlillis7962 oh do shut up.
Not just any plane, but the plane he maintained and kept operational to stay in the fight all those years ago.
British Vets are so classy with their unit colours on their ties and such. Well done, sir & thank you for saving the world from fascism.
Bless You James, I'm so pleased you met up with your Hurricane again. Such a lovely story.👏 ❤️
Outstanding and 102 to boot. Breaks my heart that there's not many WWII veterans left.
I'm 65 and when I was young WW2 vets were everywhere. When I got into the work force I worked with those guys
102 years old and still smiling, what a legend
The old guy is still sharp! You don't see that every day.
Something Joe Biden will never comprehend.
Excellent. A lovely gentleman. Thank you Sir and to all of you for your great efforts.
What an amazing guy, Still after all these years he still has it! They really were the greatest generation. All I can say is this: from across the pond, thanks for being there when we all needed you, sir!
Something Joe Biden will ever comprehend

@@sokal98haha thats it, Joe has zero comprehension of the greatest generation. try as he might he just cant wrap his head around the concept, more than any other factor at play that's why hes not fit for office if you ask me

The pilots are the fathers. They take their babies out into the world. They put them through the ropes, and show em how to what they were born to do.
But we mechanics.
We technicians, We engineers.
We are the mothers.
We feed our babies when they're hungry or thirsty.
We wash them down and clean them up.
If they get cut, we bandage it and heal it.
If something breaks, we mend it.
If they're misbehaving, they get corrected on it. Either with TLC or some tough love.
After a long hard day outside with their father, they come home to our loving embrace.
And this wonderful man's embrace and TLC paid off, as his baby is soon to outlive him. That is every aircraft mechanic's greatest reward.
A fantastic Gentleman and a fantastic aircraft!!!...
Why on earth Battle of Britain Day has never been made into a Bank Holiday ? Again, LACK of respect towards those heroes who saved our country. They deserve better.
Absolutely, but if Britain had a day for every battle it's fought, even if it's just since WWI, you'd never get any work done.
So the bankers should get another holiday, correct?
Agree, they rather give all the weirdos a pride holiday.
@@localkiwi9988they let them have the bloody rainbow to for christ's sake no one owns a color or can lay claim to it ffs.
Because one doesn't celebrate a draw.
Marvelous how a 102 year young guy enjoys the ride in a Hurricane he worked on..... RESPECT TO ALL INVOLVED!!! 🙏🙏👍👍
102? He’s still a young lad at heart! Amazing being able to meet that beautiful lady again after all those years! Amazing story and thank you for your service!!!!
This is fabulous to watch, greetings from your friends across the pond. He’s part of a stoic generation of people that today’s kids can’t imitate. Myself included.
SUPER SACHE! TOLLE ERFAHRUNG FÜR JEFF! ALLES GUTE UND GRÜSSE AUS BAYERN!

And that, right there, is what can make the world a wonderful place to be. What a fantastic connection made and what pure joy everyone was able to give. Imagine being able to time travel back to a day during the Battle of Britain, and see James at work on that aircraft.....little realising that a day, long after so many had laid down their lives for an end to the war, that he would fly, in peace, in that same aircraft...it is the stuff of dreams.😊❤
This Gentleman is in exceptionally good condition both mentally and physically for his vintage, bravo!.
What an amazing old gentleman, you can almost feel his joy. My late father was a Hurricane and Spitfire mechanic with number.2 sqdrn S. African Air Force during WW2 he served in N. Africa and Italy.
God bless this living British national treasure that helped keep our world and his nation free. Much love and respect from an American military veteran, Sir! 🫡 The world truly owes you a debt we can't repay. We can only strive never to forget these old heroes' sacrifices and service!
That's absolutely fantastic that not only did he get to see it again, but got to fly in it again. Thank's to the RAFA for making it possible, and personally I want to thank this gentleman for his service to his country, and the war effort from the U.S. 🙏❤
What a fantastic story, and what a great guy!
What an amazing character! Congratulations.
Wow! I hope I'm as lucid and young looking as Mr Brereton at 82!
Good work gents!
What a fantastic man...credit to all for his flight !!!!!
beautiful , we should do as much as possible to honour these gentlemen to whom we owe everything
God bless this wonderful man for taking that ride
Great to see a man on the spanners getting real recognition what an excellent chap he is.
Absolutely fantastic ! What a treat for all ! Thankyou
It's no exaggeration to say that saving Britain saved the Allied cause. Salute from across the Pond to one of the finest of the Finest Hour.
Something Joe Biden will ever comprehend
Wonderful that He Had The Opportunity to fly again at that age. Thanks To All who gave him the opportunity. God Bless
I love stories like this, brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for this video, and, this was back in 2020 --- so I hope he's still around, but either way, _thank you to that 102.year old hero._
Same
🙌🙌
Hi TCBElvisAPresley. Jeff is very much alive and will be reading through these comments at some point today.
This video is made up from two visits he had with the plane.
He flew in the plane last year and I interviewed him not long afterwards.
The images of him looking around the plane were taken a few years before, but he didn’t get chance to fly at that point.

@@jrsisson1978 That is so moving. Especially since I just lost my father, 91, Korean War veteran, to Alzheimer's or some sort of severe dementia. He too would have loved this story. God bless both.
Mentally and physically in good shape still, not even wearing glasses, wow what a story. He even remembered the plane's tail number! God bless you sir and thank you for your service
This was heartwarming. Thanks to all those heroes, land, sea and air, they all did much more than merely "doing their job".
We all owe a sense of eternal gratitude to these heroes, who fought valiantly for the freedom of future generations
102 and the man has a razor sharp mind! I couldn't imagine the thrill along with the flood of memories he must have been experiencing with the opportunity not only to see the plane but to get a chance to fly in it again! Good for those who made this happen for him and may he enjoy yet a much longer life!
I couldn't stop smiling ...thanks for your service and thanks for sharing❤
Wow, just wow. I am in awe of Jeff Brereton, who is the 102 year old in this video and the mechanic who worked on the Hurricane aircraft in this video. At 102, as depicted in this video, he flies in the plane he worked on long ago, others are concerned but he is not concerned at all and enthusiastic to fly again. He exhibited such joy and appreciation in that moment and was alive just like a school boy and asking for more. I'm not sure of his status but I wish him and all of you the best and to have moments like this in our lives. This was wonderful to experience.
Beautiful. Great people. Legendary airplane. Agreed to the below.. A True Hero 🌟
My granduncle was an Irishman from Tipperary, he deserted the Irish Army and joined the RAF, he was groundcrew also, his brother my grandfather was a member of the homeguard in London during the war.
Brilliant. Must have been his skills back then that it’s still around to-day. He’s an inspiration to us old timers.
I salute you SIR
Absolutely wonderful story! We salute all those men and women who served in this time of need. Thank you sir!
One of the finest videos I have ever seen, and my vife cried almost as much as me when I showed it to her. Thanks a LOT it deserves a place in the historybooks. My name is Teddy and im from Denmark

With great respect ..what a hero !
Respect! grtz from the Netherlands.
Simply, how marvellous.........
102 and sharp as a tack. Glad he got to see “his” plane again. Thanks for making this video.
A wonderful story about this terrific old gentleman....he must’ve felt he’d gone back to his youth....more 9f these stories while these guys are still with us....living history to be treasured....👍👍👍
His plane is still airworthy to this day! I want this man as the mechanic on my next commercial flight ... then I know I'll get there safely! LEGEND!
An awesome story! God bless this gentleman…they don’t make them any tougher than the heroes from his generation! God bless him.
Thumbs up for the heroic and nice man. 😀😀😀
Absolutely great. My father was a tankcommander, a DDay survivor, I love to see these video's.
Wonderful story! My best wishes to Jeff, and many more years to come! For both, Jeff and "his" plane! 😎
I remember seeing a vid for the 50th where they put a vet in a dual control spit. He hadn't flown since 46. At altitude they turned control over to him and he immediately gave her a thrashing.
Memba these old men were young then and had more guts than anyone.
Great story, fantastic aircraft, and wonderful veteran.
Love this story. What a legend!
His body is old, but he is still that 20 y/o mechanic when he's around that plane. Three cheers for he RAF and what they did in ww2.
Thanks for this Video From Czech Republic. 🇨🇿
What a Bloody Spiffing story, for all involved I Salute you! TFS, GB :)
Absolutely fantastic, thanks for sharing. Real life is better than fiction.
Wonderful story of an old school British gentleman. The memories must have flooded back to see and touch that aircraft.
In one of the most intense days of the battle of Britain Churchill asked how many fighters are in the air 147 came the reply no other fighter planes available.. As soon as they land they are patched up and back in the air, and all the time hundreds and hundreds of German bombers are coming over, wave after wave the balance of freedom was literally in you hand with your knowledge and toolkit , those planes got back in the air because of you and your fellow aircraft mechanics ,you sir are a legend not just a hero but a actual national treasure
I hope hope the owner of the hurricane recorded his meeting with veteran of the battle of britian .we should thank him for his service
This is a great story! I'll bet he knows more about that machine than you do.
What an absolute hero!! That’s amazing that after all these years he’s been reunited with the first ever aircraft he’s worked on and it’s heartwarming to see him having a fly in it!! Thank you for your service sir 🫡
That's amazing ❤ god bless him
Amazing, what a legend
Very moving story, and it brought a few tears to my eyes. What a fantastic generation they were.

wonderful man and still mobile and lucid.
SO glad he got to take a ride! I can see just what a fantastic experience he was having by the size of his smile. Three cheers for the old hero!
Absolutely heartwarming. The stories he must have.
