    For anyone wondering, in these KIA cars all the key does is complete a electrical circuit. when there is no key in the circuit is incomplete, so by jamming some metal into it, like aflathead screw driver or a usb, they complete the electrical circuit allowing them to start the car.

    • @lordautist759
      @lordautist759 6 місяців тому +21

      So basically, you could use any piece of metal thatll fit as a makeshift key? Has KIA been sued over this yet? There must be some security features in most cars to stop that from happening, right? Shouldn't it be mandatory for insurance against theft?

    As someone who has recently had a car stolen. I can tell you that insurance doesn't just "take care of you." I was lucky to get any money back at all, and with the current car market, it's basically impossible for me to afford another one. This has ruined me and is making it extremely difficult to make money to afford my other bills. Not everyone just has money like that. I wish these people understood that. My gf got her Hyundai stolen by someone before we knew about the USB trick. They left the car in a random car lot 3 towns over, still running, door wide open, reeking of weed. Fortunately our insurance company paid for most of it. Only a 50 dollar deductible, but they did over 10000 dollars worth of damage - how it wasn’t totaled I still have no clue. But stealing someone’s car is so despicable. We were without a car for 3 months while they were repairing it, so getting to work, the grocery store, and anywhere else that we had to get to was a true pain. We have since got a car lock for the car which locks the steering wheel in place. Seems to have been working for the most part.

      I was a high school teacher in Atlanta for 8 years. This is a very apt way of putting it. Many ideas that I would describe were simply outside of the realm of their understanding, despite the fact that many of the kids had a sort of cleverness that I didn't at their age. Environment plays a huge role in behavior.
      It's funny that you mention the word "imagine." I would often let the kids free write with a basic prompt for an easy grade as long as they used complete sentences and displayed some writing skill like dialog or imagery. Many of the kids simply didn't have the mental capacity to imagine a fictional world outside their own experience. That always blew my mind since when I was a kid I had invented whole worlds and storylines for my toys/legos.

    As a victim of it from July, still waiting on the class-action lawsuit money from the settlement with KIA. They were taken to court for several months at the end of last year and finalized the terms around February, and there were forced software updates and reconstructions for all the compromised models and makes. Everyone that filed and was affected are getting a -somewhat- decent payout, but the current estimated time is around June, a full year after the height of the crimes.

(I mean in the "free" system, not some private stuff) Cause I feel like a lot of people just don't fit into the "normal" school cycle, and if earlier , they had support from caring teachers, and were proposed alternatives, like maybe a more professional school, with a salary from the age of 16 (we even have it from 14 here iirc) they wouldnt be going to just quit and start to grow in this mentality of "fuck the world" asmon is talking about. Like from what i'm seeing from the US (and its a problem evrywhere in the world I think) is that you're kinda forced to just graduate high school, and if you can't, and feel rejected by your teachers you have a high probabily to turn to crime.

    So something interesting about PTSD and trauma. I recently had an accident. I had to swerve to avoid a head on collision with someone, and ended up hitting someone else.
    Everyone was fine, nobody was hurt. I saved my own ass by swerving (despite the insurance company blaming me because the driver that caused the accident fled the scene)..but at the same time. It's SO hard to drive now. I'm nervous constantly. I'm overly cautious because I remember that moment when a car shot out in-front of me and I couldn't do anything about it.
    Now, I still drive, and I won't call it trauma per-say. But it still has lingering effects. I cannot even imagine if your property was outright stolen (like a car!).

It turned green and she move along, and a semi ran the light and smashed into her small car. Naturally we pulled over and ran to her and this car was crushed. the window was open just enough to see that the woman and her kids were crushed, looked like they had been ran partly through a juicer. It wasn't like the movies. I'll never forget that as long as I live. I am out of therapy now and finally getting back on the road at 33. I am terrified of causing that accident or being in it, it's hard to not freak out while driving, but I'm trying. I still see her smiling at me.

    I worked with a kid that was missing half his calf from a 357 shot. He was stealing things from cars the one guy had a gun. That one kid shot at the owner and he shot back. The guy he thought was his friends left him behind after he got hit in the leg. He didn't know that his friend had a gun. He said he would never shoot at someone normally. They would just run away. It seems like he turned things around. He was young but did do time. He was 17 years old charge for theft 3 years after the hospital visit.

    Happened to me after fully paying off my first financed car. I traveled the country in that car, shared memories with people who aren't here anymore for 6 years and was looking foward to no more monthly payments. Then some shortsighted loser kids jacked it, crashed it, drew dongs all over my car and left it in a field. Now I'm stuck with another car payment. City legislators are to blame, they don't pursue property crime at all. (2018 Hyundai Elantra)
