I'm only seeing these videos now, because I'm having my cross-linking procedure done this Thursday (wish me luck, I'm bracing for the pain for 1-2 days after!), but I wanted to thank you for posting these videos. They're a huge help!

Can you give a update once you are done with the procedure. Thanks again

@@truegrizzlesfan2292 Sure! I had my right eye done two weeks ago, I’m having my left eye done tomorrow. I thought I was going to have epi-off (where they take the outer layer of skin on the cornea off, if you don’t know the term), but I actually had a form of epi-on. This meant the post-op wasn’t painful or uncomfortable at all-literally 0/10. YMMV, but I’m hoping for the same experience on the left eye. If you’re curious, I got my procedure done at Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut with Eric Donnenfeld. He’s one of the leading keratoconus specialists in the country/world it seems, so I trust epi-on was the right choice.

@@alexjones8545 thanks for the info. Lastly, what are the recovery time. Before the surgery: what was your vision . after the surgery: what vision do you expecting to have, once everything heal. Thanks again bro.

@@truegrizzlesfan2292 If you have epi-on, the recovery time for the cornea could possibly be as short as 1-2 weeks-NO guarantees, as I’m not an expert. Like most people, I’m expecting my vision to be the same after the procedure, since the aim of CXL is to simply halt the progression of the disease. I have a scleral lens appt booked for May 3 though :)

Thanks, Kelly, for sharing your experiences. I hope the vision in your right eye will improve by a scleral lens. I am looking forward to your next videos. Take good care of yourself.

I have a feeling that the coloured screens are for astigmatism but I'm not sure.
I'm glad you're seeing progress. Oh god that pun.
People complaining about you talking about feelings can take themselves and go away. Feelings are meant to be felt and feeling sad isn't a bad thing.
I'm just over here happy that my eyes, my left which was crosslinked in 2009 and my right in 2014, are both still stable and haven't changed significantly. Hoping the same for you.
My question for your Q&A is: would more post-crosslinking appointments have made you feel better about the surgery? In Australia here I'm pretty sure I had 1 day, 4 days, 1 week, 2 week, & 4 week post op follow-ups.

thanks for the updates I'm pleased you're gaining progress i have karatonis and i need the corneal transplant but dr said that'll only make my vison less blurry and the recovery is 18 months but I've heard different from you

im glad you have found these videos helpful :) yes, from my experience recovery times can vary. my stitches were removed rather quickly but the appointments (with crosslinking too) did occur over an 18 month period. don't let that freak you out though because progress will be made over that time period.

Hey Kelly. Thanks for these helpful videos and I am happy to see that you made good progress.
I have the same exact diagnosis as you and I need Partial Cornea Transplant in my right eye and Cross-Linking for my left eye. I will start with the Cross-Linking because my left eye is getting worse very fast and we have to stop it ASAP.
I am a software engineer and I want to now how the cross linking will affect my ability to work? In your case, how much time did it take?
Sorry I couldn't wait for the Q&A, my cross linking session is next week and I am very worried. Thanks in advance!

Sami Mejri do you have any floaters and have you done CXL yet

I'm so sorry I did not catch your comment in time for your procedure. How did getting back to work go? for me, i believe it took 2-3 weeks for my vision while reading to return to normal.

Kelly McEwen I've been out for 2 months as I did PRO and CXL for my right eye and CXL for the left
What is yiur vision like without correction on your transplanted eye without correction
And do you have BFEP or other visual problems ? What can we as KC patients do for cataracts ?

    • @samimejri8079

Thank you very much for responding. The cross linking (3 weeks ago) went well, my doctor said one week will be enough for me to go back to work. It become harder for me to read after the procedure. Yesterday, I've got my new glasses, I am still getting used to them as they are giving me a good headache. I am hoping for my vision to stabilize.
As for the Cornea transplant in the right eye, I am planning on doing it at the end of the year because it will be colder then (it will help with the "no hair washing" rule) and, again, waiting for the left eye to stabilize.
Thank you again for responding, I really appreciate it.

I'm happy to hear that it went well :) and yes new prescriptions can take some time to get used to. I just got new glasses about a month ago and it took me about 2 weeks to fully adjust to them. Lol I agree that the cold weather does make the "no hair washing" rule a bit easier to manage.

hey i have keratoconus as well how is ur vision with glasses im considering glasses over contacts how often do u change them I'm so depressed I'm only 16

    • @kellymcewen2823

as far as i'm aware after the transplant my vision is now 20/20 in my left eye and 20/50 in my right with glasses. and should be around L 20/20 and R 20/20 or 20/30. the optometrist I went to also believes that my brain may need to readjust to seeing out of the right eye since i haven't been able to for quite awhile. depending on how far your KC has progressed glasses may still be a viable option, however, in general with KC contacts provide clearer vision because they actually help to shape the eye some while they're in.

I also have keratoconus. I would recommend contacts over glasses. While I do have glasses, contacts give me a sharper image over glasses. The glasses also give me headaches which the lenses don't give me.
