I can't believe this is on youtube. Absolute gold
Thank you!
No problem :)
Junkie XL Awesome job on the soundtrack i loved it. Did you also compose the soundtrack for the first ever teaser of Bvs which they showed at SDCC 2014? if so,is there a tittle to it beacuse that theme/music blew my mind. Iv been looking everywhere but i cant find it. thank you and good luck
awesome! Still can't believe that Tom takes time off from his busy schedule to make tutorial vids, really solid!
Thank you so much!!
Your videos are just amazing. I am always looking forward to a new episode. Often in your videos you can see in the background the ms 20 mini synthesizer. I have it myself, and I would like to find out in a clear way how and in what productions you use it.
agree.. thanx for sharing this amazing score Tom :)
me too. Thank you Tom!
OMG i am thinking the same. i cant belive this! A triple A Composer is sharing his knowledge with us on youtube.
4:21 Batman theme from Zack Snyder's Justice League!!!
19:22 ahhh those drums 😍
😎
I can't believe we're finally going to hear the amazing score for JUSTICE LEAGUE in 2021!!!
You both should've come back for Justice League.
Chicken Permission The shaved Both Hans and Junkie stepped down. It was their choice, not Warner’s.
@@johnzachariahg Junkie was replaced.
Wouldn't have saved it from the meddling WB did.
he is back
@@johnzachariahg Hans stepped down, Junkie was replaced
4:31 Breath it in. That's called fear!
i love the fact in the track when supes is foghting back you can hear the "arcade theme"
love that theme
Is it weird that I can tell where they are in the fight just by listening to the song?
That's completely normal and a sign that the composer was successful in creating something distinctive and dynamic that ties well into the story and action.
of course not
Me too
Bryan Suminski I can do the same thing with many soundtracks (not this one, though).
That means Tom did his job well :)
I love the part at 6:37. Great combination of Tom's score and Han's Arcade piece.
In an earlier video you talked about why there are no memorable themes anymore in films, but I'd love to hear how the work process is like with directors who DO want memorable scores. Like Zack Snyder and the score in this video has fantastic reoccuring themes from earlier in the film. I am interested to hear how the director approaches you for that and how you execute it. Because these scores are fantastic!
31:00 my favorite part. Here you can see how subtle details and combination of what you have and new sounds can bring in an emotional part. IS GORGEOUS!
This really stepped up my appreciation of soundtrack making, holy crap that's a lot of layers. Amazing film with an amazing soundtrack
I love that Superman drum rhythm.
I want him to do one for his justice League Snyder cut theme when it comes out in 2021
The one thing that was never criticized in the DC movies was the music. It was awesome and memorable. The replacement in JL was so cringe worthy :(
2 years later, we have Tom back!
Don’t do my man Danny Elfman like that
@@AntonStruzik Its true tho
IDK if this is on purpose (i hope it is) Trippy Piano stuff at 20:28 sounds like a distorted version of the cues from both Krypton's Last and Launch on the Man of Steel OST
smart man
That is you JunkieXL...that is you.
i thought it was pretty obvious, but again, in the scene you can't hear it clearly. Still adds to the scene obviously. Is kinda a "ghosts of the past haunt Superman again" sound.
Tom, if in the future you can make this very same thing but with the track in Mad Max called "brothers to arms" it would be great! That track has an "epic" uprising part that is just so good!!! And would be interesting to check out.
actually it is, I didn´t realize that before
You have no idea how awesome this is to me! :)
19:22 😍😍😍💙💙💙
One of the best scores ever produced for film!!!!!
Us: Hey Tom, how many tracks are you sing for this cue?
Tom: Yes.
44:15 this is great!!!! Really good variation.
Man of Steel's soundtrack by Hanns is amazing.
I like that both Hans and Junkie have similar styles of writing so if you watching and appreciating what JXL is sharing, he is giving huge secrets on film scoring.
Tom I just wanted to thank you for this.
BvS is hands down my favorite score of all time. And I just dreamed of being able to listen to how this was composed and put together, and this is no longer a dream as of this minute.
This will help me in my orchestration/ composing education a LOT! Thanks again. Really appreciate these videos. I'm ready with my Oxygen 49. :)
20:27 is out of this world!!!!! great sound design work
What is crazy is every note, every moment played here - I can tell you exactly what part of the BvS fight it is at. I was in band as a kid, so grew up loving music and making it...love this stuff, you earned a new sub!
So Many references to culture in these character's soundtracks for Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: classical music, spiritual, military, alien, country, spy, greek warrior, gothic, apocalyptic, hopeful. Thankyou for Bringing DC's universe to life. Maybe I'll look for you when I bring my franchise to life.
Tom, I just wanted to thank you for all your effort. This channel is a gold mine for the present and future producers/composers, which is absolutely amazing.
This movie has one of the best scores I've ever heard in a film. So glad to have you back on ZSJL, it makes every scene much more impactful.
Its Majestic to watch Legendary composer work. Even more when you are Teaching.
UA-cam is such an amazing place. THANKS JUNKIE XL .Can't believe I got to watch this.
I can't wait for your masterpiece of a score for Zack Snyder's Justice League
oh yesss
41:17..but the movie is already out ! x)) LMFAO Tom :DD
Once again your're a god among humans for sharing these
Real masters are not afraid to share their knowledge. Thanks Mr XL... awesome tutorial
Applause! That was unbelievable!!!!
@JunikieXL I see what you did there @5:07. Absolutely amazing @5:07 - 5:10 and forward. (those who watched MoS or know it deeply) That's the Cue to Zod's otherwise menacing "WWwunwawawawawa" (world engine sound almost) entrance in the "You are not alone" Trailer after the drums/ deep brass "DUN-dun-dun, DunDunDunDun Dunnn-Wunanananna..." except it quickly feeds into (alternatively) Batman's representation as an enemy, almost attaching him as "an enemy of Superman" with that one little 4 second transition... That's what I see when I close my eyes and think of the 2 (soon to be 3) movie arch... Love it, Huge fan...!
Tom, beyond your great talent and human qualities, your private libraries are amazing ! As a composer, when we can not afford to produce libraries of this quality, we are not in the game and we are naturally excluded from these big productions. However, thank you for sharing these videos in addition to your work, you have a good philosophy.
Tom, as a fellow Dutchie, i love your work. The Man of Steel and BvS Scores are my favourites and i listen to it everyday! Keep up the good work! Succes met de toekomst!
if it aint dutch it aint much!
The Dutch always strive to bring not their A-game, but to SURPASS anyone’s A-game
Junkie thank you so much for this video! I listen to your BvS soundtrack almost everyday! The songs really speak to me and it is beyond amazing! And to see you show us the amount of layers and dedication this soundtrack has is entirely jaw dropping! I would like to let you know that the DC fans really need you right now. Your talent to score Justice League for the extended edition for Blu-ray release is highly demanded. We deeply miss you and your imagination with how you designed the DCEU musical scores with Hans Zimmer. We were sadly unsatisfied with Danny Elfman's score. As much as we respect his past musical creations, this one in particular (Justice League) was a disappointment. We completely disagree to the decision Joss Whedon had made and it was a giant mistake. I'm literally speaking from the bottom of my heart and I cannot filter my feelings of how much I am deeply saddened with you not being able to score the Justice League film. It was a giant moment in cinematic history that was completely diminished over changes that was highly unacceptable. We need you Junkie XL! Thank you!
#justiceforjunkie
A wish just came true. His score was fantastic for ZSJL.
Thank you very much for this episode, sir! I love BvS score so much so this is absolute pleasure to watch! And i have feeling that You had much greater contribution to this score than you want us to think, i can hear your signature all over and i love it!
Sir, you can't imagine how eager i'm to hear your Justice League score! Counting days...
Dude, I missed you in Justice League.
thanks for these video junkie.. very thanks
what really is amazing , is that we have a very very busy person who has a lot of huge responsibilities and still manages to find time for us and give us an incredible insight into his work. thank you very much Tom, you are truly a wonderful person.
Incredible. The amount of detail that goes into making these sound scores is mind boggling.
Thanks JXL for your time
You claim you’ve recorded 10 live drummers just like in Man Of Steel, but the drums in the demo sound exactly like the ones in the final mix AND in almost ALL of your other scores.
Not that I’m complaining, though. Those drums sound amazing.
Thank you for these gifts, Tom! Love hearing these behind-the-curtain insights.
19:21 is the sound I always wanted to hear. Those rhythm of drums always pumped me up. You are the master of Drums Junkie XL.
Jesus Christ even that first demo sounds amazing!
Great video!
One of my favorite scores!!!
Awesome videos..I would like to see your tracking and mixing chains, like preamps etc..Thanks!!! You are very kind to do these videos!
coming up in future segments
Wow! Thanks for this
Please men. You have to release you're vision of The Justice League.
He will, in 2021.
IT'S OUT NOW!!!! ❤️🔥🔥
Are you Barry Allen? It seems that you predicted the future
it happened!!!
Great, thanks so good to see this broken down. Really appreciated
Tom, It's very kind of you to share all this insights of a real pro !!
You're our real hero !
You are hugely great person, Tom. It's our university and you are our teacher that teaches how to what. Thanks for your time and thanks for all that you made for us. God bless u
Unbelieveable stuff - the attention to detail is simply phenomenal ...
JXL I cannot thank you enough. I have been in a crossroads and away from music for a while. You gave me enough to come back at it again. Keep doing what you are doing. The world thanks you.
Dear, Tom.
As an electronic music producer looking to get into movie scoring as well, these videos are invaluable. Thank you so much for taking the time to put these out. You have no idea how much I appreciate it! I hope to one day pay this generosity forward and help people too once I "make it".
All the best and good health to you and yours.
Much more in depth than I imagined.
So inspiring.. Tom makes me realize people of his caliber are also human! There's hope for the rest of us! Incredible of him to share on the inner cogs of his process - what a guy! Anybody perhaps know what that choir library might be?! Was so stoked to get into it a little more... Think it sounds so sick.
I Wish my pc could process 1/5 of this tracks. Thats very cool that you show your work on youtube to everyone who wants to learn a bit. Congratulations.
This is gold, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge Tom!!!
Speechless!!! Thank you for taking the time. I learn a lot!
Absolutely love this Tom.
46 minutes of pure GOLD valuable and inspiring information Thanks Tom
so freaking awesome!!!
I love musical journeys like this and like your "Run all night" one. So impressive!
Project is so huge though! :D
Damn Junkie, these tutorials and glimpses into your career and workflow are ABOVE & BEYOND. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to create these videos. They are both fascinating and instructive. This is a Masterclass on steroids!
This is so incredibly fascinating. I love listening to black and blue and picture our two titular heroes fighting. Thank you for taking the time and sharing.
"Hi, this is Junkie XL, and welcome to Studio Time! ........with junkie XL" :D
You're great Tom.
Could you do A Beautiful Lie next & breakdown how you came up with the cue for the opening scene?
Pretty sure Hans came up with that one.
wow, one thousand percent AMAZING. Thank you for taking such time to share this process with us. May God bless you for it.
OMG this is CRAZY! Dear Tom Holkenborg you make us feel in heaven! Always wanted to see a behind the scene like your videos! Crazy good! THANKS!!!!!!
this is just perfection
You are a true talent.
And I think I have enough to keep track on when I have 15-20 tracks.
I have no background in music at all Tom, but I've always been curious to film music composing side of things and this video was just so awesome to watch! I also love BvS and its soundtrack, so you basically made my year by releasing this. Thank you again!
I can't read Justice league comics without this now
Great score. Layering is the key.
great sound , great movie
I really want you to compose the music for "The batman" movie, because it seems like you REALLY are mastering his fears, pain and feelings and show that in the music language! Overall, soundtracks are supposed to tell a story! I really hope you get to do it! So awsome man, and best of all, you still got time to make these youtube videos while you work/are busy! This is called talent on high level ❤
These videos are incredible! I'm a music producer but never considered making music for films or had a big interest in it till I seen your tutorial videos. I'm already learning loads and it's amazing to see hands on insights to a genius in his field. I respect your decision to make these free of charge but I honestly think you should set up a donation link for people who've enjoyed your videos and you can use this money to either donate it to a charity or cause that helps educate music for people in less fortunate places, if such a cause exists, or else just use the money to keep these tutorials going on indefinitely.
Master class from a Master. Thank you very much Tom
Tom, you are a great sound sculptor and an inspiration, i've listened to and love everything you've made since 1998, your work in the movie industry is simply amazing, Keep up the good work !
oh wow, this is what the score calls Black and Blue right? one of my favorites : ) thank you so much for showing us all these things.
Thank you so much Tom for taking time to do these videos and showing us how it's done in Hollywood.
Thankyou for doing all the sessions
wonderful video, can't wait for your work on the justice league, thanks for taking the time out of your life to show us this masterpiece
I hear you about "production". I get that for sure. I am a sound designer/editor first and composer second. So I naturally want to bring in sound design elements to a score. Traditional? never. Although i do use traditional instrumentation where the story calls for it. But experimental atmospheres, SD, SFX and days mixing is my comfort zone for film scoring. I too started as an apprentice engineer at the Record Plant and Westlake Audio back in the day. I think that any composer, producer or sound editor, needs that background to fully understand the process of production. Whether you do it or you sit in when someone else does it. I took Hans' Master Class and it was eye-opening on so many levels. Now you are also filling in some gaps in my learning. Thanks.
I'm a big fan since I heard "Action Radius" in Need for Speed Underground 1. I'm so happy to see that you have a successful career in movie scoring to, and you make the score of my favorite movies. Can't wait to hear what you have in store for Justice League. Keep up the great work!
Yay! At least I tie my shoes the same way as you, haha! So awesome! Thanks for these amazing videos!!!
Junkie .... you’re so kind and gracious to share your time and talent with us 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥂👍🏻
The Perfect Score!!! GOoooooooosebumps!!!
Fantastic cue!!! And yes, thank you Tom for taking the time to do these videos!
Thank you so much for this Tom. With your schedule, you certainly don't have to take the time to create these videos, but you do and it's truly appreciated. Thank you for giving back!
This is unbelievable helpful, sincere thanks Tom! Man that Eurorack stuff sounds incredible, hearing it there it reminds me of a sound that was used throughout the Donnie Darko score.
Great movie, great story, great costume and designs overall, great score.
Damn, i love this movie!
...Just the score...
I disagree completely.
I can understand, but it's how the world works, you confront with people that disagree with you...
And thats cool man :)
Okay. But i'm curious, why do you think it's a bad movie, though?
The photography, the exaggerate extremely epileptic camera movements, the dialogues, the editing and the "bad" vfx (they are not that bad but the photography and the style of the movie have made those look awful)
The first shots of Gotham were very good indeed, but the main problem with the "whole" is that every shot is made to be more cool as it can be, loosing the narrative part of the story.
For me it could be a good movie, but it missed the opportunity.
But this is only my opinion, don't take it as a Spielberg's masterclass ;)
18:53 Cool to know the drum rhythms were your input on MOS. Your drums are top notch!
I love a good in-depth dissection of a cue demo. This is the best one I've seen, I appreciate your work Tom!
This was great! Thank you so much for doing these videos! I can't wait for a mixing video where you mix down all those countless layers to 5.1 or atmos or whatever you use
