I was age 15 when I saw this and really became aware of Marilyn. The way she walks, holds herself, talks, everything is exquisite. Although she gets bumped off in this I loved this movie so much. Marilyn looked beautiful in this and never dated, she could be out of the 21st century with her look. It is timeless.....
This was the movie that showed me what a fantastic dramatic actress She was, as well as so devastatingly beautiful.

That's a great observation about Rose. To become the person we see on film, she had to have a history and it would probably have been a very sad history and maybe not so different from Marilyn's real-life history.

Love this movie, it's one of my favorites in general and favorites of hers. I just returned from visiting Niagara, partly because I love this movie so much and always wanted to go there after. I was a bit disappointed (but not surprised) it didn't quite look like this anymore (and the cabins were built for the movie,) but still loved it. I just ordered the movie on Amazon so I can see it with fresh eyes after having been there! Definitely an underrated movie.
I have always loved the movie too and hoped the area would look the same. Pity the cabins were a film set, would have been a great tourist attraction to actually stay there.
I’ve been to Niagara Falls in 1976 it was my high school trip before graduation. We stayed on the Canadian side in the beautiful city of Toronto. I loved every moment of the trip. ❤️

"Niagara" is a very good movie and toward the end it gets really scary. Marilyn had something to work with in this movie and did an outstanding job.---In one scene I remember Joseph Cotton's character saying something about how Rose would find "...a barstool" or "...a convenient bar stool". At that time here in the U.S. that was a huge insult at least in some places. Where I live women were not allowed to sit at a bar until the 1960's or else they could be charged with prostitution. In "Niagara" Rose's husband was indirectly calling his own wife a prostitute.

Untrue. NO woman would be 'charged with prostitution' for simply sitting in a Bar. Where the heck do you live that this would be true? Perhaps much further back, but certainly NOT in the 1950's! What he was implying was that she was the kind of woman who frequented bars to pick up men. Those kind of women (in men's eyes) have existed in every generation--and been looked down on (even though it seems perfectly acceptable for men to frequent bars to pick up women without being 'labeled'). Capisce? He wasn't saying she was a prostitute, just 'easy' - and for a repressed, control-freak with anger issues like George, this was a definite insult.
@@ElizabethGS It IS true: I grew up in Indiana here in the U.S. and in the town where I live it WAS illegal until the 1960's for a woman to sit at a bar. I remember a woman I used to work with telling me that if she was meeting someone at a place that had a bar and wanted to have a drink while waiting for that person she would have to sit at a table and order from there. I could also tell you about some racial issues that lasted a long time. I don't know how prevalent it was for women to be forbidden by law to be at a bar but that situation did exist.
...could tell you some stories also about racism in this area. If you're interested in more about the women/bar issue I would suggest looking up old photos of bars or looking at scenes from old movies and TV shows. Prior to the 1960's you're not likely to see many women sitting at a bar.

Everybody is saying how stunning Marilyn is in this movie. Yes, indeed. But Jean Peters is absolutely gorgeous, too!
Yes, and just as curvaceous as Marilyn. But Peter's voluptuousness was downplayed because she was "The good girl". Marilyn was the sexy "femme fatal", so her curviness was on full display.
While I was watching this, I actually had this fantasy that Peters and Cotton's characters would fall in love with each other, then he would leave the conniving Rose, and Peters would leave her jerk husband (he was very patronizing at times... and a dork).

Great Movie I managed to find some of the locations myself. Where the cabins were. The ending boat scene in Chippewa and the old Brock Sheraton.

@@Tarotlandiatarot If you stand not too far from Clifton Hill and look over at the American falls, you'll see the large falls then a break where there is all cement then another small falls. If you stand right across from there on the Canadian side, and close to the sidewalk where you'll see the famous cement and Iron fence they were right there. This is pretty much the only clue as to where they were as you can see the falls clearly in the movie several times. Millions of people walk through this area everyday and don't even know they are. Hope this helps.
