I hunt with my loads and have no problem with the temp sensitive thing. I actually tested cfe223 and varget last year with temp of 19 degrees in same gun with same bullets. Everything was the same except the powder. Results were not what I expected. The varget load actually shot faster than normal with one ejector mark and usually shoots great with no pressure. Do you find yourself cleaning barrels more shooting copper bullets vs shooting lead bullets? The federal 120gr fusion and the barnes 120gr ttsx are on my short list for a new 7mm-08 project with a 20 inch barrel.
How did you find shooting the cfe-223 in colder weather? In my 6.5 grendel, i would have issues in group size, and if i loaded near max when it was cold, that load would have pressure issue when hot. Like you mention, you can just back down the charge weight for when its hot, but ended up changing powders to a more temp stable, since that was easier then tracking loads for the same gun dependant on weather.
It's curious how your groups are 2 + 1. I see this a lot. What order was that one oddball shot in? Was there any consistency there? This is the same bullet and load I use in my 7-08 (and 3 others, all with equal success). Thanks for the vid.
@hopefulballistics The shot may be random, but it results in 2 + 1 too many times. It's kind of interesting, I think. I wonder what would happen if you shot 5?
I’m no expert, but when I had a rifle printing groups like this it turned out the op rod was hitting the scope mount every once in a while (M1A so not bolt action). Something is moving under recoil. Could be scope, rings, or rail. Might be that the barrel touches the stock sometimes - the way you support the rifle might not be 100% consistent.
@chipsterb4946 Something might have been loose, but I doubt it. Not with HB anyway. I'm shooting the same load with the same results, though I never checked to see if I got a consistent outlayer.
Glad you posted this one. I'm about to order a 708 reamer. Sadly Tikka does not make a left hand stainless 708 so I have to convert one of my current rifles. I have 4 ACE barrels on order, 8, 9, and 9.5 twist and they contour a Tikka sporter barrel so I can still use factory stock if I choose, just have to cut, crown, chamber, thread the ACE and spin it onto a T3x action. I did find some ACE Tikka contoured barrels ready to buy now but they are 8 twist, which, in my opinion, isn't necessary or appropriate for a 708. That fast twist just slows down the bullets.
