  • Kachiya Matsuri is a samurai festival held on May 5th celebrating a 10th Century samurai, Fujiwara no Hidesato, who offered up a bow to Katori Shrine in thanks for his victory in battle with rebel Taira no Masakado in 940.
    A samurai procession is done from Kameido Shrine from 1 ending at Katori Shrine at 3 where a bow is symbolically placed upon an altar. Also are scenes from the Karasumori Shrine Festival held on even years which is related as the shrine was supposedly founded by Hidesato after his victory.

      @@RoninDave where do the Japanese get their armor? Not the antiques, the newly made armor that’s often seen in these re-enactments and parades

    Very subdued for a Matsuri, maybe you got up too early in the morning.

      Yeah, I figured, Suns out, Hit the beach!, but its good to see the Japanese taking holidays seriously for a change.
