Hi John been looking forward to your next Big Country tutorial I was wondering where youv been 😄.....I was in Kenny's Guitar in Glasgow other day looking at a black Yamaha S.g..thanks for inwards another gem from the crossing album....gonna sit through this and piece everything together..😊👍
Cheers Paul! Been flat out busy at work these past couple of weeks....& haven't really had too much time for the guitars 😕...but I'm back now 😆. What was the SG you saw? An SG1000/2000 or one of those more recent SG1820's? I know most guys in the UK will be looking big £££ for them on Ebay...but sometimes you'll get them cheaper direct from Japan on Ebay or on Reverb.
@@angleparktv7006 this one was just over a grand are these guitars hand made as are just as expensive with Les Paul's..am going into town tomorrow I will get more details of the S.G it's a beauty..Yamaha SG 1820.sure it was
@@paulmcmillan6010 The Yamaha SG...also known as the 'Les Paul Killer' 😆. Les Paul's are so common....anyone who's anyone uses one lol! The SG was Carlos Santana's original guitar of choice in the early to mid 70's & then it became a favourite of a lot of UK punk & new wave bands in the late 70's & early 80's & was their "go to" guitar...hence Stuart using it in The Skids, Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers & John McGeoch of Susie & The Banshees. They were also used by the likes of Andy Taylor of Duran Duran & even Midge Ure played one when he joined Thin Lizzy in the late 70's! A lot of people complain about the weight of them. Made from good mahogany & with a thru-neck instead of a glued in neck like Les Paul's & with a brass block below where the bridge is, meaning better sustain.
@@paulmcmillan6010 Yeah, I'd still take a black SG1820...but swap out the PAF pick-ups for open humbuckers to make it look a bit more authentic. Just a pity it doesn't come in dark green ☹....
I use the Harmoniser effect on my Boss GT-5 multi-effects unit, discontinued long time ago. It has two harmoniser effects that run simultaneously. I suppose it's a bit like the first one being the initial harmoniser/pitch shifter & the second one being the de-tune/octaver. You could probably do it with a Boss Harmonist HR-1 or the latter Harmonist PS-6 stompbox pedal. An MXR-129 Pitch Transposer unit will be hard to come by these days. The settings on it are notorious for wandering....whereas with the Boss Multi-Effects one, you quickly "write" it & store it. I use a couple of slightly different harmoniser/pitch shifter effects for different songs i.e. the one in this video for songs like Inwards & Harvest Home & then a different one for the likes of 1000 Stars, Lost Patrol & Fields Of Fire with a lot more reverb added.
@@paulmcmillan6010 I used to have quite a few BC t-shirts when I was in my teens & early 20's. My first two were an XL black The Crossing t-shirt bought from a rock merch shop when I was 14 & at Boys' Brigade two week camp in Rhyl in North Wales (Alarm country lol!) in 1988...& then a white The Seer tee (with Dec 86 tour dates on the back) from one of the market stalls on the promenade there. I still have my DTD /Final Fling tee from Belfast in May 2000....it's since had the sleeves cut off & I use it as a gigging tee lol!
@@angleparktv7006 magic I can see now how much the music and band influences your guitar playing its only now that I'm learning the songs I always wanted to due to your video tutorials been brilliant journey so far and hope you keep them going 😊...I have a vynel signed no place like home album I met Stuart and the band in Glasgow tower records..long shot have you had a go at slide guitar in Republican party reptile?
@@paulmcmillan6010 I started playing guitar at 14 in 1988 & to be honest there are far better guitarists than me out there....but Stuart has really been the only one who I've ever seriously been influenced by. I like a bit of my Belfast hometown hero; Gary Moore too...particularly his Thin Lizzy & celtic-rock stuff. Not fussed on his blues stuff.
Always loved this song. I am a bassist but thank you for an excellent breakdown of these guitar parts.
Thank you very much! 🙂
In awe mate fantastic
Excellent !!! 10/10
Well explained and a great accent to go with it 🇮🇪

Great tutorial. What's the interval on the pitch-shifter?
Octave 👍
Which pitch shifter do you use? I wanted the mxr like Stuart but can’t find one cheap enough
