    The tunnels are basically where the developers gave up.
    The tunnels were probably the second to last level the designer worked on, and someone told the designer that there's maybe one month left to finish everything left, so they just reused the same level three times in a row.
    P.S. Kabus (pronounced Kah-boos) means nightmare in Turkish and Arabic, so the title is basically "Nightmare 22".

      Actually I think it's the opposite. Those levels have actually a very decent level of detail and work put into the mapping and texturing. It's just that the layout is basic and that the whole thing gets reused.
      My guess is that those tunnels were actually one of the first game sections they created early on and that's why it has such a quality yet basic design at the same time.

    Also, if you're interested on that whole "how do they learn demon summoning", the racket usually works something like this: some two-bit occultist or a necromancer experiments with the powers that be and conjures a small spirit, like of a lesser demon or a dead person for some kind of divination or an experiment or to do their bidding. The spirit will do a whole sales pitch, like it would do the summoner's bidding but in some small capacity because it's so weak or isn't really summoned, just projected there, but if you want to see some real power, you gotta summon this cool guy, and not just conjure his spirit, you properly summon him to the mortal realm. If the spirit isn't selling itself, it does that to suck up to its boss and/or tormentor in hell, and because they hate being bound by mortals. If the mortal bites, they teach `em what they need for summoning or help find that info, but being coy about the fine details, so when the summoning is done "haha, as promised you'll see the real power when it devours your soul mortal, now I'm free to cause havoc!"
    So yeah, if you ever play with the nether powers, you always stick to your original plan, only use them for what you were going originally and don't take any follow-up or extra deals. This way you'll go to hell for sorcery after living a long and fulfilling life and dying of some mysterious innocent-seeming accident, like a pottet plant falling on your head.

    30:17 "And he broods 100% of the time"
    Dante goes through some pretty heavy stuff throughout the series and has had moments of grief and self doubt, but he's actually a pretty lighthearted character on the whole. Dude hoots and hollers and is audibly having the time of his life whenever he's fighting and most of what people associate him with are a bunch of off the wall comedic scenes where he's either acting like a jackass or just having fun.
    As for the game trying to be like DMC, I can definitely see how they might have been trying and failing to emulate that. The environment and the demon designs in that segment of the game feel like they're pulling really heavily from the first game but it's way too stiff and you don't have any options for actually styling on them.

      I don't see much of a relation to Dante. If the devs were inspired by DMC at all, then just with the idea to put a badass anti-hero into the story. Nothing beyond that.
      The strongest impression I get is that the author was suffering from that fanfic trope of putting a super-powered alter ego of themselves into the plot. The character serves very little purpose for the story and only a little more for gameplay. He's just there to be a dark, mysterious badass and save the hero. A power fantasy for the writer.
      My impression gets emphasized by the moment where he insistingly repeats how very very much the protagonist loves Ebru, despite them never having talked about her. That's one of those bizarre plot elements born from a fanfic where the writer couldn't separate themselves from the protagonist but also wanted to add a version of their identity that's virtually invincible and flawless except for the horrible burden of being unable to escape their fate. Leading directly into being the ultimate emo.

    30:23 well, that's Virgil, Dante's brother. Dante is not an emo badass, he's a too cool for school badass. Dante is like that dog from the Simpsons that came out of nowhere that one episode that everyone thought was so cool. Poochie. He's like Poochie. Except with a big sword and gets impaled for funsies in cutscenes. To put this another way, the creator of Devil May Cry said that Dante was too cool for smoking.

      I can't deny that sometimes Dante can come across as an emo badass, mainly because of the box covers for DMC 1, 2, and 3. And in 2, he sorta was most of the time. But yeah, Dante isn’t much of an emo badass, since that falls more in-line with Vergil.
      Also, him joking about this being a Resident Evil game that wants to be Devil May Cry, make me wonder if he knows of that whole story of 'Early version of RE4 being scrapped and turned into DMC1'.

      Appreciate you guys making the point for me.
      Though to be fair, like Silver said you can certainly get this impression of Dante if all you have is pretty superficial knowledge of the series; and the developers of this game may've had the same misconception of Dante.
      Also fun fact related to DMC originating from an early iteration of RE4: The PS2 horror game "Haunting Ground" (or "Demento" in Japan) also originated from RE4, though in a different way; a scenario script for an early version of RE4 (different one than the one that turned into DMC) was donated to one of Capcom's studios after it was decided work on that iteration would be halted, and HG was developed by that studio and also bares some notable similarities to what we know about this earlier incarnation of RE4's story; the original RE4 script writer is even credited as a draft writer on HG.
      That said, Haunting Ground is *much more* Clock Tower than it is Resident Evil in terms of gameplay and overall vibe and pacing, and it's clear that even with the similarities the script saw heavy revisions and changes to better fit the new game.

    • @Silverman160Zero
      @Silverman160Zero Рік тому +3

      Oh, Haunting Grounds! I remember that. However, I did not know that came from an early draft of RE4. The one thing I remember clearly of HG is that Hewie (the dog companion in that game) bore a resemblance to 'that dog' you save in RE4. Some claiming its the same dog.

    • @LonelySpaceDetective
      @LonelySpaceDetective Рік тому +3

      @@Silverman160Zero I've seen it said that there was a girl accompanied by a dog B.O.W. in the same early RE4 script; indicating that's where Hewie came from, but I've had trouble verifying this. There definitely _was_ a female supporting character that Leon would've encountered, but I couldn't find anything about a dog.
      I've seen it mentioned on both the RE wiki on Fandom and in a video on RE4's development by a guy who took his research seriously so it's _probably_ legit, but I don't know where to find it.
      On that note, I should also mention that in an interview, it was stated that Hewie was added to broaden appeal of the game (due to typical female protagonist concerns); which implies that a dog wasn't in the original script.
      Though a possible explanation for that exists: Apparently they had already started work on a horror game when the early RE4 script came in, so maybe they just independently came up with the dog idea before they got the script.

They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.
    You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.

    The copyright reality thing is kinda interesting, cause there's a lot of cases where other companies don't care because of the type of product it might be and the context.
    For example, a show in Scotland called Still Game shows Coca Cola and talks about biscuit brands all the time. But one episode where they parodied a real life supermarket brand had them make up a fake brand that was an obvious nod to anyone in the UK.
    In a similar vein, Marvel are allowed to use the Chrysler building in comics without permission most of the time because they're in control of how it's used. Versus the games where the player has control and modders can even manipulate the content further. Neither of which the owners of the Chryslers design wants.
    Now, the original intent of a building being copyrighted was more to stop other building developers from copying it or its style, and dates back for centuries to some point in the early Ottoman Empire. And at a later point when photography came around, it became a double-edged sword because having your building be too popular in films meant that tourists might impede the actual business of the building's businesses. On the inverse, all costs for the use of the Hollywood sign in TV and movies go towards upkeep maintenence with the rest going towards the city funds.
    Addendum: the reason red crosses can't be used in games is the same reason you can't just stick Coca Cola on an in-game can. The logo has been the official logo of the Red Cross Organisation for over 140 years, and been a protected symbol for around 80 of those. We only associate it with health packs because of Red Cross themselves, and most hospitals and medical facilities around the world can't even use it because it has nothing to do with them. Hence the blue 6-pointed star that _actually_ represents health.
    The red crescent on the health packs in this game weren't a symbol of the Red Cross until the late 2000s but was common in middle eastern countries like Turkey. So depending on when this game came out, it may or may not be breaking both copyright laws and the Geneva Conventions.

    • @sinine1100
      @sinine1100 Рік тому +7

      A small correction: Most of the laws pertaining to when and where you can display a name/logo/design/character are trademark laws, not copyright laws. Trademark laws are a whole different beast from copyright laws, and most of the time, they are a whole lot more restrictive and demanding (such as you can actually lose your trademark if you permit others to use it for free).

They couldn’t pay for the good game engines so I believe this German game engine was their only choice because it was cheap. The engine was so simple and limited it was almost impossible to develop this kind of game so developers of the game also added bunch of addons and tweaked the source code if I remember correct. After a long time the developers of kabus 22 got back together recently and got investment and working on a AAA game right now :)

    As a Devil May Cry fan, your spider sense is on the money. And seeing as how DMC spawned from Resident Evil (the first game was an RE4 prototype), this game kind of gives an idea on what DMC could have been had it stayed Resident Evil. I will also say the brooding is not as heavy in the mainline DMC games, but rather more the reboot. Though there is some brooding

    • @forgot7en
      @forgot7en 8 місяців тому

      Here's the thing: No.
      DMC1 wasn't an RE4 prototype. To cut a long story short, Hideki Kamiya was developing RE4 under Shinji Mikami, who was letting him do whatever he wanted to the game.
      At some point, Mikami was like "You know what, make ANY game you want, it doesn't have to be RE anymore." So Kamiya took what they already had and created DMC1 from that project instead of scrapping it altogether, while Mikami just moved on.
      In an early version of DMC1 (and you can find a playable demo), you couldn't jump because they hadn't thought of it yet. By that point, you could already swing the sword around with a 3-hit combo. THIS is more or less what Kabus 22 looks like it must've played like if the game had never gotten jumping and a more developed combat system.
      As for how the DMC1 turned out as a full game, lol no. Nononono, this (Kabus) doesn't compare. It closer to Onimusha than DMC1 and even then, that's a huge stretch.

      @forgot7en so he was developing DMC 1 originally as a Resident Evil game before going in a different direction? Yeah, sounds like an RE 4 prototype. Next time you want to do am "actually", make sure you actually make a point.
      And that last part is just you being an ass. Could just have respectfully disagreed, instead of the "lol no" you decided to go with. All in all, you're just being a tool.

    • @forgot7en
      @forgot7en 8 місяців тому

      @@saxdude01 No. They were developing RE4. Which was then repurposed to create DMC1. There's a difference.
      It's the same story with Haunting Ground/Demento.
      And I wasn't disagreeing, I was fact-checking; that was the point. Try to keep up, Mr. Tool.

    • @saxdude01

      @forgot7en "no, they were developing RE4. Which was then repurposed to create DMC1." Yeah, that sounds like it was originally an RE4 prototype. I think you don't understand what a prototype means.
      And yes, you were disagreeing with the last part, but you were being an ass about it. You are digging yourself a grave here by doing a terrible job of "fact checking". Grow up, dude.

    • @forgot7en
      @forgot7en 8 місяців тому

      @@saxdude01 Let's try this again to see if I can get through your thick skull:
      You said "DMC1 was an RE4 prototype." No, it wasn't.
      They were making RE4 for one of three times: one version of RE4 became Code Veronica, another became DMC1, and a third became Haunting Ground.
      There's no such thing as an RE4 prototype becoming another game, they were simply making RE4, then for whatever reasons, they decided to make a different game.
      Sounds like YOU'RE the one who doesn't understand what a prototype is.
      A game demo is more indicative of a prototype than the development of one game being shifted into another; for example, the demo (in terms of level design, puzzles, dialog, etc.) of Half-Life is nowhere in the full game, but the gameplay is nearly identical. The demo of Tomb Raider IV is another example of the same thing. If you go back far enough, you can even find a playable demo of DMC1 in which you can't jump because the developers hadn't thought of it yet; THAT'S what a prototype looks like.
      Calling one game (DMC1) a prototype of another (RE4) is complete nonsense. Even if you phrased it as "was a prototype" still doesn't make sense. Anything still in the final version of RE4 that might be comparable to anything in DMC1 is merely surface level and/or sharing ideas, such as escaping a self-destructing island by driving a vehicle through a cave into the ocean, or arguably traversing a castle, which shares basically nothing in common between the two games in terms of level design, pacing, etc.
      Go look up the 3124 Graphic Arts book and read up on a ton of concept art that was originally intended for RE4, read the development commentary included, and read the interviews section to find out just how little in common there is with the final version of RE4.
      They have different characters, different themes and story, different tones, and completely gameplay, so you tell me in what substantial way is DMC1 indicative of a prototype of RE4.
      I've wasted enough time on you so please stop responding if you're just going to continue being a needless contrarian. I know what I'm talking about.

    I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if Tekken had a huge impact in Turkey. The homegrown Tekken scene in Pakistan grew to be so huge that it gets referred to as "The Miracle of Pakistani Tekken" after they started coming out and winning international tournaments.

      I'd say Street Fighter 2 was really more popular around Turkey, but maybe it depends on which city you lived at. As kids we loved to play SF2 over MK at the arcade. Guessing Tekken wasn't even a thing back then.

    Yes, the perfect Game Dungeon to watch while playing the classic RE games. Also based on what is happening I would call the main character is more Turkish Leon S. Kennedy than Redfield going by the first four and a half minutes.
    UPDATE: You know, if you asked me who I thought the fashionably dressed cool guy was supposed to be, I would have guessed Albert Wesker before Prototype RE4's Tony Redgrave.

    I imagine the kill everyone demons are self selecting for entering the human world. Like all the chill demons who aren’t super into killing human’s probably don’t bother coming through the portals to kill all the people.
    I imagine the evil wizards prefer to summon chill demons for obvious reasons and those are the ones who end up having to teach all the classes. Which is super unfair because the chill ones have to do all the work and it’s the murder demons who have all the fun once the hell invasion starts.
