Although I was born in china this is my first time to know the skiing history of China and how skis are made in their very original way. Hope one day I'll be skiing in those beautiful mountains in China.
A very great contrast to arc'teryx's video on skiing in Japan. As someone that has lived in both countries these videos really resonate with me! Well done!
This is another resason why I love China so much as my most favorite country in the world: Being such an enormous country, it has such a diversity in landscapes, which includes titanic mountain ranges, vast grasslands and steppes, scorching hot deserts, cold boreal forests, and lush, verdant, tropical rainforests. The other reason is the cultural diversity that is native to this country, with various ethnic groups of different cultural and genetic backgrounds inhabiting various regions throughout China. It's such a fascinating country. 🇨🇳
Jordan Manley is a magician. This work of art is an amazing contribution to the ski community. What an amazing way to portray the history of a classic pass time that millions of people indulge in yearly. Bravo!
Thanks Ray! By the way, this is completely last minute but the film will be playing in Boston tomorrow night: www.bostonwinterfilmfestival.com/thursday-october-20 We also may* be coming to NYC in Nov but I'll keep you posted on that :)
Jordan, In Germany at the moment for the Frankfurt Book Fair though I will let me Boston friends know.... Debate night in the US and for me, wide awake at 3ish in Germany and seeing this message, made my day. Let me know about Nov.. Hopefully it is not while I am in the UK.... The Alba clan would love to meet you!
If anyone is watching this in 2022, as an update, a MASSIVE ski resort has just opened a few km outside Khom, called the Jikepulin International Ski Resort. It opened with over 7700 acres of inbounds terrain, and 4500 feet (around 1375m) of lift-serviced vertical. I’m commenting this because there’s literally zero coverage of it in any international media, general or ski-focused, probably due to the Covid restrictions that China has had. But China is completely opening its borders soon, so sooner or later word of this place is going to trickle out. I’ve been living in China for a few years now, and will be heading there myself in about a week. Stoked out of my mind is the only way to describe myself right now.
AGREED! There is almost NO coverage of these new areas in Western media. Jikepulin looks absolutely amazing and the powder skiing there must be incredible. I'm hoping to do a trip in the near future.
@@chrisskiingpowpow thanks for the comment! As an update, yes it was absolutely incredible! It’s quite hard to get to still, and not the most beginner friendly, which somewhat limits the amount of people that visit. There’s also multiple base areas which spread the crowds out.
Love the tale of the hunt. Only shots of the land as you tell us (to use our imaginations) of how the traditional skiers tracked their prey. Beautiful work. Glad your taking ski films to the level of cultural ski portraits. Encouraging the bond between why/how we ski with our modern culture.
Wonderful video. I hope the local people in Altay can keep their traditions - even as many of the young will move to cities... But it is absolutely a good thing that limits were put in place by the Chinese government against cutting fresh trees and over hunting wild animals. China suffered terribly ecologically in the 20th century. They need to regrow as much forest as they can - for the good of the whole planet.
I`ve never bought Arc'teryx products, but i`ll start to be your customer. You made an amazing, creative and impressive video. I know it is for marketing but you did right.
Great story! Little late to the party, but nonetheless, here's a photo gallery depicting all the traditional ski hunting of these mountain people! ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2013/12/first-skiers/bendiksen-photography#/03-lassoing-elk-hunting-670f.jpg
Just the new names alone: New York, New England, New Jersey, New Hampshire etc. Manchester, Plymouth, Oxford, Bristol, Chester, Dover.. Not to mention places named after other countries like Ireland, Holland, Belgian, Norwegian, Czech and YES, even China - Pekin, Illinois, Canton, New York, Nankin Township, Michigan and so on.... So original huh!
I feel proud to support company that creates such films.

The same reason we love America, as a Chinese.

Breathtaking film! What an amazing insight into Chinese ski culture!
Very proud to see this as a Chinese skier. I'll keep supporting arc'teryx, hope you can bring more videos in the future.
Amazing story Jordan. With each episode, it just gets better and better.

Stoked to see the Altai mountains in this! I've been wanting to ski out there for a long time; such a stunning part of the world.
I heard there’s now high speed training connecting Altay to Urumuqi and the rest of China. And from China to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Jordan Manley's film making is incredible, absolutely love it
This Jeff Yellen guy is just a god, i swear the god, look at is film portefolio, the sound is almost perfect in every creation. Big thumbs up

Beautifully Hypnotic as always!
잘 봤습니다. 감동적이네요. amazing job.
wow! amazing video! congratulations guys! :)
Beautiful, vast -They probably made snow shoes as well. Sleds that could be used to pull game. Very resourceful people, the Chinese.
Amazing cinematography to accommodate a beautiful storyline with a soundtrack done so well, it would be just as intriguing without the voiceover.
Wow! Who knew? Sad and inspiring at the same time. ! Zandy
Awesome film!

Great film.... well done ;)
what a masterpiece!
there's a mistake in wulahati and norbol's name in arabic as they are switched together. Anyway, amazing video, i love the series! Keep at it!
Amazing film, though the Arabic text was not properly rendered.
Amazing video but the aspect ratio it's shot in almost ruins it.
Did these two guys just took powder skis as their visit trip equipment? even at groomed ski resort?
Beautiful...
Just a detail : the man at the end doesn't speak chinese, but a "turkophonic" language like Uygur, uzbeks or kazakhs.
I

Do you think all the place names in the USA are original, and not copied from Europe and elsewhere? 😂
