I turned forty recently and have silently been pretty down about it. This is just the sort of film I needed to remind myself that the choice to keep my lifestyle exactly what I want it to be, irrespective of age, is just that... a choice. Great film. Thank you, Mike. Keep it up.
Age is somewhat in your head. I read a lot of comments about being in forty and I know where you are coming from as I once felt the same way. I am now 60 and I view my forties as when I was still young. I boot up at the same spot in the same lodge all winter long and there are many older men and women doing the same during the week days, many are in their 70 s and 80s. There advice is pretty much just keep hitting it, which is what I have done all my life. No I don't ski bumps all day but when they are soft I do, I pick my days to hit it harder. In the off season I Mt. bike and hike. I am not chasing my youth I just am happy making turns in the hardwoods on a good day and the groomers on the not as good days. I would also say surround yourself with positive like minded people. That snow in this video looks like heaven.
Glad it resonated like this Scott. Your story is super inspiring too. Keep having fun on the slopes whether it's on the trails or on virgin powder. 🙏 (And yes, we have to admit the snow was amazing in Japan!)
This is exactly how I feel, and exactly why I live in Hokkaido, Scott. I'm not trying to relive glory days, but I just want to enjoy every day and be as healthy as I can so I hike, bike (road & mtn), do weights, and trail run all just to be able to ski all day long for as many days as I can throughout the winter. The diet here is amazing, and onsen are like the icing on the cake. Especially when it's snowing. Heaven.
I just turned 56 this year and I have fallen in love with skiing again. I my youth I lived skiing, I then took time off while I raised my children. A buddy asked me to go to Utah 9 years ago and I have been skiing every since. I plan to go out west every year till I physically am not able. This movie gives me hope that that will be many years from now!
I’ve watched this one twice now. Once in 2019 and just now with Harry (9 years) and Edward (11 years). I’ve been fortunate to meet Mike Douglas and he is among the most remarkable people I have come across while clawing my way through the past 194 countries without flying. That says a lot as I have been fortunate to meet many people! Well done ❤️ #SagaBingeWatchingSalomonTV
Never got any further than a 360 myself but last winter I did kind of the same journey and revisited the park to inspire my son. 37 and still got it, now I´m actually thinking about stepping it up going for a 540 this winter and possibly a 720. This movie helps inspire.
I skied for many years with a man 30 years older. We don’t see each other as much now, but he is now in his 90s and still skis every day of the season. He told me a long time ago that he made sure he skied every day, even if only one run, because at his age, if he missed a week or two, he might never come back! Even today, he skis fast and fluidly. People cannot see that he is an old man from the chair and regularly address him as a young person, if they don’t look closely on the chair. Most of all - my time with him took away my fears of aging and taught me that my best skiing days are probably still ahead of me. It’s not about the show.
Word Mickey. What a story! We bet it played an important role, the message this man sends is pretty powerful and we're glad to hear he's still having fun on the slopes at his age. May he keep skiing for a lot more winters :)
Thanks for this Mike! You and I crossed paths from time to time in our "Younger" ski lives back in the Parkasarus/Super Park days. Injury had caused a self imposed retirement since 2014 but I was able to get back on snow this winter. Seeing you again, charging and doing it has truly inspired me to keep pushing forward in my pursuit of skiing forever. Thanks 🤙
Mike, you make e believe more and more in the happiness called ski! Thank you for doing all this. You still help me fell better. Good luck man, good luck!
OMG ! What a fantastic video ! Thanks Mike for this beautiful message, you're an inspiration to all of us. Nice work Himaness, that is some outstanding music !
I came across your post am glad I truly love Japan but it looks like I will never get to step foot on Japanese soil and that is one thing I would love to do and never leave I will stay there, thank you for filming. most beautiful. 2/20/2022. from Michigan USA. 3:58 AM.
Very good, absolutely amazing theme and music. Great conversations and truly meaningful video. loved it and will keep it in my heart when skiing:))) Thank you!!!
Mountains man.. that's what keeps you young. Nice film Salomon, as always! I still think the dream trip from kashmir was one of your very best, keep it going!
Great video, thanks! Another important contributor to better health outcomes, and longevity could have something to do with the way communities, and social groups are organized. Researchers attributed the lower levels of heart disease among the people of Roseto, Pa, to their extended families, and tight-knit communities. Of course, diet, exercise, genetics, and the environment are also contributing factors. Malcolm Gladwell talks about this town in his book Outliers.
Amazing video - Japanese powder is just the best and great to know that life isn’t done after 40 - I need to visit Japan and meet these great people and of course ski some powder -:)
Recipe for fountain of youth: - 4 parts sodium bicarbonate - 1 part soda carbonate - 1/2 part kaoline - 1/2 part epsomite - 1/2 part siliceous earth - ph-scale to 9 with this upper mentioned receipe - take a bath for minimum 90 minutes (osmosis starts at 60 min.) - important: Rub your skin (especially the feet) every 10 min.
Found the video extremely interesting and cool. Can anyone understand what is the secret to longevity as said on 18:20 by the Miura son? I cannot seam to understand his english at that point: "...secret to longevity is strong ??????? body..."
It's something about Japan that is always inspiring. I really hope I can ski till my last days. Stay strong Mike. Peace

Hell yeah Wes, wish you the best.
"The goal wasn't an end point, it's just a kick in the ass to get up and seize the day." -- Wise words Mike and a great little story.

Mike Douglas you're the Godfather of Freeski!
You ski better than most skiers half your age, Mike. Legend.
Great movie, topic, Met Yuichiro Miura in late 80's at Kanazawa Ski Area as Mt. Seymour became sister Ski Areas, Nice to see him still skiing.
This was just fantastic. As I get closer to 40, I think about this more and more. Still gotta get out there, every day.
Glad you're felling inspired. Go get after it! :)

I should correct myself - the dude is nearly 45 years older than me! (His youth belies the numbers!)
i found myself watching this all the way through, which is rare for a youtube advert! good job

I hate that 47 is considered so "old"! This was so enjoyable and beautiful.
I wonder if the same applies to snowboarding?
I imagine their bones bend less in a turn than a skiers
Inspiring!
Cheers! 🙌
It looked like Mike rode on the Salomon QST 99 ski in some shots, did he ride on it throughout whole trip?
Yep, thats my everyday ski.
