I'd argue that when faced with the realization that an extinction level event humanity has a . . . unique response. Apparently, the rest of the species all said, "I gotta spread out so they can't get all of us at once." Humanity on the other hand said, "Nah, I'd win," and based on the asteroid account, they were right.
@@nebulisnoobis102the former because it’s an asteroid on a set course due to the physics involved. It’s not a sentient to detect emissions and act on them.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: never before had humanity been so offended by something that, after thinking about it, they 100% agree with.
I mean . . . isn't that still self-preservation? Granted, it's not the route everyone else took, but we didn't ignore it. Self-preservation can take many forms - humanity just prefers the more explosive option
Wait, normal aliens develop FTL for self-preservation from doomsday level threats. Humanity developed it to avoid a doomsday level threat. But humanity didn't develop FTL for self-preservation.

Were you space faring because an asteroid was going to hit you, or was the asteroid going to hit you because you’re space faring?

We give Lady luck so much stress.
@loganshaw4527 what stress? She's practically living in AA meeting after all this time.

Yeah with most of these stories, it's best to not ponder it.
They used it to blow up the threat not run away.
More they achieved FTL as a response to the POSSIBILITY of an extinction level event rather than waiting around for one to come knocking.
I mean this is flawed because you dont need FTL to ensure safety from world ending disasters, just in system spaceflight. Fun story tho
The moment humanity establishes stable, self-sufficient colonies on the Moon, Mars, or Venus, we no longer have to worry about world-ending event.
Well this is a interesting argument.
Luck is a skill that we humans collectively possess in spades.
Can confirm I have almost died and got lucky more times than I care to count
but they so spicy!
Me the other day eating a whole bag of pepperoni. It is so spicy but so good I can not stop.
Not brazil nuts, its castanhas do para and yes its poison
Me being brazilian and eating them right now: '-'
That one was on the House?
So is alcohol.
If some things are poisonous, why are they also yummy?
Flavor or how colorful it is. Did you ever wonder why peppers have a strong red or strong white color.
Humans have a saying about all our eggs in one basket.. and this guy just said nahh, its ok if eggs are in one basket.. like an idiot human..
Humans are idiots(sick in the head too) otherwise why kill each other of imaginary rulers in the sky.. and lucky. luck is why were are still here..
