Before my uncle passed, he used to invite me to Thousand Oaks to play in his member guest. Well, one year he forgot to sign us up, and I arrived an Cali very disappointed. He made it up to me by getting us on Sherwood. Twice. It's been years since that trip, but I'll never forget playing this beauty with him. We arrived in the parking lot and Bubba Watson was parked next to us putting his clubs away. We walked through the entrance, Wayne Gretzky and Dustin Johnson drove past us in their cart. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had an uncle like Bud, who showed me some unforgettable courses in Southern California.
I always loved this course. I could loop here and I’ve never been in person. If I ever was rich enough to be a member at a club like this, I’d be there all day every day. Little story, I’m a +1 player, I’m decent, I was a guest of a rich guy, father of a friend who wanted to win bad. We were at an exclusive country club course in Lake Geneva Wi, this place was wall to wall money from Chicago, the sand scoop for divots, gold plated. I was a college kid , I was broke, I didn’t have appropriate clothing to go into the club after the round, nor the money to purchase from the boutique. My guy hooked me up, Ralph Lauren sports jacket, shirt, trousers, came to like $1300, he didn’t flinch, I carried him in the tourney, this was payback. I wore the clothes that day, and the jacket to a job interview (law firm) after college. I was interviewed by a member from that club who recognised the crest. Told him the story, got the job. It was meant to be.
This was awesome to see i ran the paint crew for the country club and grounds and the original showcase homes for Murdock when it was all built this was an outstanding project for many years WOW what a great memory thank you
Back in 2008 I volunteered and worked selling merchandise for the Target tournament and our reward was that we got to play the course the following week. What an awesome course!
I’m kind of surprised a club like that was cool with you shooting all over the property, especially in the clubhouse and locker room. Top-shelf place, that’s for sure!
Some of my favorite videos are the Private Club tours. The hysterical thing is how you take full advantage of it Matt. The part with you going into the jacuzzi naked had me dying 🤣
I love how he gave this club a slap in the face by pointing out the defects on the carts and how he’s seen better at other clubs with lower memberships😂

I can honestly say I'm not the best golfer but with all your videos old to new I have improved so much and always looking forward to what you have in store for us!!! Thanks again great video!!!
It takes time. They might have been previously tied up on a previously signed lease contract prior to new tech. Also chip shortages have caused delays. Btw- I’m a club manager and see this often (delayed updates on fleets). That said they also likely have strong caddie program.
My aunt used to be one of the most recognizable golf instructors in the US. I had all the opportunities to travel to practically any course I wanted, but I didn't get very into golf. I did get to play several professional courses along the east coast and one in San Diego which was *chef's kiss*. Now that my life has slowed down and I'm able to make more time for the course, she's retired with back and foot injuries that prevent her from playing. :/ Dagnabit!
Love these pvt club tours!! Some of my fav videos. You should think about making a rating system similar to that of what Doug Demuro does for cars but for these upper echelon clubs
At 0:57 i can see my grandma’s old property. She lived on lake sherwood from the 1960s to the early 2000s. After she passed, her property was sold to demolish and rebuild the house as she lived on the ‘old side’ of the lake. Westlake/sherwood has changed a lot since i first visited in the 1980s, but i’ll never forget the smell of eucalyptus and geraniums lol. Thanks for this little trip to memory lane and a little insight to the course my grandmother played…i still have her old set of wright & ditson clubs in her gold leather bag haha.
You’re a fun and funny dude- but I love it that you allow golf to be the star of the show- very nice work- fantastic filming - jeez I feel like a film critic over here’!
I have never golfed a day in my life, don’t watch golf…don’t watch golf videos..have no idea how this ended up on my feed…but I love this guy lol awesome video!
Thanks for the tour Matt. I grew up in that area, before that was built. Back when they filmed Dukes of Hazzard in the same spot the course lays. Walked the course before but never seen inside. Great video.
The tees on artificial mats are horrid, no matter the facilities. I can’t practice with woods when hitting off mats and messes with my warm up. Learned to adjust over the years, but still not something that is enjoyable.
This how the almost all top clubs do events. We do not care about your range experience just the members. We always move the range to the turf for the event unless it’s a PGA sponsored event.
@@tyler8walker Yes, I know that’s how almost all top clubs do it for special events. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. That’s also why I’ll usually warm up somewhere else before going to the event.
I feel like a lot of the cost is because it's in California. Matt has been to private courses that were just as good or even better (mats on range, golf carts?) For less $$$
Great content. Play lakes a few times a year. Every time i am offered the opportunity to play sherwood main i decline. The caddy situation and the formal atmosphere is my issue. North ranch is a more loose environment. I like to have fun and not worry about all the bad golf i play!
I know I am late, but so cool you got to play this course! My father and I would go every year to Tiger's World Tournament!! I still live near there. But watching the best players in the world play here got me into the game, and just got my first set of clubs yesterday, with the range at another local course today! Your videos are awesome and entertaining, keep it up!!!
Right from the beginning you pull up in the parking lot in your dodge, not that there’s anything wrong with that but I would guess it’s the only dodge in the lot. Loved the video. I remember going into the dressing room at the plantation course in Maui and seeing all of those pga pros names on the lockers, awesome. Love ya man.

A few people commented on the golf carts not having GPS. Most exclusive country clubs do not have GPS in carts because it is mandatory to take a caddie. Most clubs of that level want you to walk and even if you are riding in a cart you still need to take a caddie with you. Caddie is your GPS

Just played here as a member guest. Definately lived up to the hype. Fairways were more generous than I thought but you could get into trouble with any errant tee shot. Great caddie (trent). Shot 90 and my host thought that was really good for first time. Wish I could play here more. Super fun track and probably some of the finest greens I have ever seen. Very fast but with the caddie, manageable.
I kind of agree but understand the sentiment against it. A lot of courses just don't want that much traffic and that's the reason they're so pristine. Wouldn't really be fair to charge 6 figures for a membership then allow anybody to play. Plus the green fees would be crazy high. Plenty of good public golf out there.
