Grandísima Lila Downs...tuve l a fortuna de verla hace ya casi 20 años aquí a este lado del Atlántico, cuánto disfruté aquel directo en el Teatro Palenque en Talavera. Grandes grupos en las tierras americanas desde Chile a Mexico se me ocurren tantos grandes ( los Bunkers, Amigos Invisibles, J. Venegas, Drexler, Silvio R., Aterciopelados, Puerto Candelaria, CafeTacuba.....en fin pura maravilla ) Salud y fuerza hermanos!
I don't understand Spanish but I've loved her ever since I discovered her in the movie Frida. I'm seeing her this Saturday, four rows from the stage. Very excited. I told my girlfriend that I got lawn tickets and binoculars, it'll be a nice surprise for her. I'm poor and happy right now.
You should listen to Chavela Vargas, IMO she's was the best mexican singer, her performance of "La llorona" or "Simón Blanco", "Macorina" and "un mundo raro" are amazing :)

Lila Downs is making a lot of effort in trying to change the perspective the world have about Mexico and is doing it with the best she does, her music. I'm so proud to see a mexican that worries about our country and actually does something. I hope all of you can hear her music, all hers lyrics are powerful and full of poetry. The second song literally brought me to tears and made me shiver. This song needs to be featured on David Lynch’s next movie! Don’t know much about Lila Downs, but she can really sing and has so much soul, spirit, and mysticism! Wow!
the vocals on that second track is supernatural. Is it crazy to say I hear Otis Redding coming through on that song? the slow music, those notes she's holding. maybe it's the fact she's singling straight from the soul.
