This was a great Video but is seriously lacking in HOW to save the generated key pair. If you create you key pair (using a usb boot) and the exit tails the key pair is lost. You CAN export the public key (something they do not talk about) to a persistent folder and then import it BUT the private key is lost and since it is lost it can never be recreated!!!
Hey infosec bytes when i try to copy someones public key and paste it or Import it to GnuPG it won t Show up ... "it Shows me the Name the Email key id and more but it won t get in GnuPG to Send message and encrypt it with his Public key . Can you help me ?
@Infosec Bytes I tried to import the key from a friend in every way you told in your vid. It's good. But damn, when I Klick on import, nothing happens. I can't see their keys and I can't use them to send them encrypted messages. What is the problem.??Pls help me.
@Fatty Fatty Two by Four yes I did. 1.) Copy the public key into text editor. 2.) save the file with .asc at the end and save the file in your home director. (you can save it for example in the permanent tor files.) 3.) After that locate the file in home directory & THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: right CLICK on the asc.file and select Import Keys. Close than the key ring application, restart it, and voila, the keys are visible imported. You can find the guide also on amp.reddit.com/r/tails/comments/dlpxxc/importing_public_key_does_nothing/
@Fatty Fatty Two by Four did you fix it with my instruction or the infos in the link. That was a fucking big problem. I have searched weeks for a solution. Nothing on UA-cam or the internet :D
Darn i cant export as text or .asc, even if i change to asc it exports as pgp, men i rene it and ooen i dont get the key, only an error and jibberisj... maby there is a new way to do this now?
@@joshbost6361 export your keys on kleopatra or whatever your using and not on file manager. Then save it on your desktop then go on file manager and import it and both secret and public key should appear on your keys
I think it’s a glitch with the current version of tails. It does I fact add the key, it just doesn’t show up. You can still sign messages with the pgp when you click on the sign button
try to use terminal for importing keys. current version of tails have problems with key import over GUI. google for CLI (or terminal) commands for pgp key import
Hi, I was following your tutorial and got ahead of myself by deleting the 'default' set of keys! How can I restore them as you said they would be needed? Thanks
@k je Once again, thanks! I tried the terminal but file names or fingerpirnt not known. However, it is possible to download each one separately, which I did. Once downloaded, they only require a 'double-click' and they load into the app. I would think the only 'possible' hitch with this method is the signing. Sorry to hear about the headaches. I do appreciate your help. Best.
Couple questions : so an active email address is not needed , all info is made up? And unless I really need to stay in contact with someone I could just make a new key everytime I needed to use pgp correct ?
Dude see how you turned the Asc file to block and we seen our public key, how do I see and manually save my private key in block form please help anyone who can help help me out I’m still bony at this

What if the recipient doenn't have an E-Mail attached to their key.
For some reason it would let me import my partners key, any suggestions??
Edit: just open files and decrypt it with your passphrase
jacob jester can you explain this step further? It’s not working for me either, even though I’ve followed this tutorial a million times.
