    After the long delay the washer video is here!
    Amazingly, the wash fill did not ATC the whole time. The Rinse Spin starts out a little unbalanced but look how well the machine recovers!
    Many people have claimed that this machine is loud, but listen to it, it is not loud at all!
    3:12 High Speed Agitation
    17:32 Neutral Drain (Pump Show)
    19:52 Spin
    21:58 Rinse Fill
    26:26 High Speed Agitation

    @JSneaker Yeah, the only down side to this lower model is that it does not have a "true" delicate cycle, but that is not a problem as we do not have any delicates at that house that need washing. We did carefully think about that before buying this.

    Ones likes these do better than other TL'ers with their short agitation strokes. Much older ones were extremely reliable, but sometimes the agitation wasn't powerful enough for things like work clothes.

    @dualactionsurgilator The direct drive Kenmore were great. What I didnt like about them though is that the Kenmore agitator seemed to be too low height-wise compared to the Whirlpool agitator, and also the Kenmore's upper agitator did not move forward (clockwise) as well as the Whirlpool agitator.

    You add detergent as it is filling and you add the softener in the dispenser of the agitator. These don't have to heat the water, it uses plenty to purge the water lines. I'm not sure what you're watching, but you can clearly see turnover in this video.

    Actually Whirlpool didn't abandon these machines willingly, they were forced to by the EPA mandating washers made after a certain date had to use less water. I believe I read somewhere that by 2017 all new washers sold in the US will only be allowed to use 12 gallons of water for the complete cycle beginning to end. Makes me glad my 1978 Maytag is still humming along :)

      They could have, ( theoretically) used the same mechanism with the washplate design of the HE models and kept using it for years. Just change the agitator but keep the rest and bam! Old design with new washplate but with the tried and true everything else.

    They may not be much in production anymore, but the used market has tons of them. We have another Whirlpool from 1990 with a mechanical timer, still works perfectly.
    I know another user on here who has a Maytag from 1984; perfectly functioning timer.

    Sharkie626 shows a great example on how a Whirlpool Washer works prior to the 2011 models. The 2011 and newer models now have lid locks and sensor controls.

    • @CrestwoodRocks
      @CrestwoodRocks 8 років тому +1

      TechMasterAllen on the 2011 models and newer? Their is. You'll have to use a tool to onscrew the screws to the part that attaches the base connected to the lid. When unscrewed, the base would have to connect to the lid lock piece so that it will read that the lid is locked/ You'll have to hold that base until when lid lock comes on, but you will however have the lid itself open.

  • @Sharkie626
    @Sharkie626  12 років тому +4

    Heh, it wont be that in 20 years. The brake on the 1990 washer has definitely lightened up after all the years of use, but as long as it still holds the tub in place it's still good.

  • @dualactionsurgilator
    @dualactionsurgilator 13 років тому +2

    @Sharkie626 Interesting drain mechanism. As far as the speed shift goes I would agree with you. I tended to like the Kenmore direct drives for this reason. You get more time of full action and it is easier on the machine to continue on high agitation for the full time. The advantage to the speed shift however is that you have less wear-out and shredding of fabrics. I have not found a significant difference in todays sturdy fabrics though.

  • @Sharkie626
    @Sharkie626  13 років тому +1

    @BernardR30 Indeed. Though, if the time comes, I am going to start looking through the used markets, where washers still gave you FULL hot water and a warm rinse. Maybe you saw already but, in my vids, we have a Whirlpool from 1990 with 5 temperature selections and on that machine, the ONLY repair done to it was the agitator dogs back in 2002, everything else on that machine is original.

  • @Sharkie626
    @Sharkie626  13 років тому +1

    @dualactionsurgilator It is a pump, since the house drain pipe is higher than the washer, it has to be pumped into the drain pipe for it to drain properly.
    Oh, about the no speed shift, this model, if you want to give them a level pertaining to the number of features, this would be more or less a level 2 model (out of 3), this one only has just the fast speed during the washing, which I am more than okay with, in fact, I tend to like it that way.

  • @Sharkie626

  • @TheWASHINGMACHINEBOY
    @TheWASHINGMACHINEBOY 8 місяців тому

    the outer tub of this machine looks like that of a similar machine that has fill spouts in four corners of the tub rim. that machine is unique because it calculates how much water to use (meaning it has no water level knob on the control panel) based on the rate of water entry into the tub and how quickly the water is rising inside the tub. if it is rising slowly, then the machine knows the clothes are absorbing the water and are not yet covered. if the level is rising quickly, then it knows the proper water level has been reached so it stops filling
    however, this system is disabled if you open the lid, causing it to fill to the top no matter how little you have in the machine

  • @Sharkie626
    @Sharkie626  12 років тому +1

    ahh I hear ya there, same with our old fridge here. But with this machine I will push them to get it repaired if something goes wrong with it, they do all agree that todays things aren't built like they used to be, so that kinda helps.

    I agree with you. Front loaders may not use as much water as a top loader will, but I think top loaders get the clothes cleaner.

  • @Sharkie626
    @Sharkie626  13 років тому +3

    @dualactionsurgilator Ahh okay, that explains the forward movement. I do find those vintage Kitchenaid agitators (the green ones) quite fancy. Ya know, with our 1990 Whirlpool, I have thought of getting the agitator cap since we never use the fabric softener dispenser for it, not the most necessary thing, but just an idea.

    European washers take over an hour to do one load, these ones get it done just a little over a half hour. If these washers damage clothing then you are either overloading it or using it wrong. Our machine from 1990 has damaged nothing in all its years of use (and it still works). Those Maytag Neptunes in college spun faster than this machine and my drying time was no shorter than it is with these (and yes I always clean the lint filter).

    Technology makes products increasingly reliable. Mechanical timers are notoriously prone to failure. Even the low-end washers, such as those made by Amana, have switches and electronic timers. I was in 2 stores yesterday and tried the lowest price models. Washers with mechancial timers are history.

    Nice Washer! I have a Whilpool almost exactly like this one. It's 8 years old and not a single thing has gone wrong with it. It already has blown all of my former he washers out of the water in terms of reliability alone. Knock on wood. The only difference is my wash basket is a grey blue spreckle porcelain. It runs and sounds the same as yours. Nice job making a video of your machine running. I hope it serves you well for a long time. Although unlikely, if it should ever break down, please rebuild it if possible. I think these machines will be worth their weight in gold pretty soon lol!

  • @dualactionsurgilator
    @dualactionsurgilator 13 років тому

    @Sharkie626 Actually the top part of the agitator in the Whirlpool was more for asthetics and to house the softner dispenser. In the Kenmore you had a removable dispenser that snapped on to the top of the auger.They also used the same racheting mechanism. The exception being the Dual Action Plus which had a curved auger fin which created more drag. I switched the Whirlpool style agitator out of a Kitchenaid Model when it broke and put in a Kenmore one. It worked the same.

    Interesting. But yeah, maybe something in the transmission, or the bolts for the transmission may be loose.

    Why can't whirlpool just look at the real world now like open ur eyes people look at the washers u created in the past see how good they are and look what u created nowdays see the difference.

    You hacked the safety crap to keep the lid open. I love that!!!! I hate those lid lock thingies.

    my mom has a estate washer with the made by whirlpool logo and its roughly about 10 years old and still works just fine and it gets used ALOT. Also my friend has a estate washer too, but its very basic but its super capacity just not alot of selections and only the 2 speed motor and not 3 speed like my moms, but my friends estate is newer but the transmission is the noisiest I have heard, on the wash its just clank clank clank going along with the agitation speed

    The only thing I dislike about this washer is the pause after the wash before it starts draining and everything else. But other than that it’s a great washer.

      Yeah those long pauses are kind annoying, but yeah these run great!

    Lower models? lol...I thought you would have said higher models...actually, I wish that mine could do a full cycle on high agitation...sigh. Great video, great lighting. I wash both casual and formal clothes in mine and have never got a problem. I also have an old G.E. ramp style agitator machine WITH ONE SPEED - HIGH...and have never had a problem, after all, I don't wear lace.

    @gemini80204 I think by this point (2010), Whirlpool had done away with the smaller tubs and just kept it with the larger ones.

    Does anyone know what happened to the whirlpool with curved fins on the bottom part of the agitator? So it could hold water.

      Poor Person, All Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag & Amana Washers varies. Also be aware that new changes occured after 2011.

      Yeah, you now see diagonal rows of holes instead of the horizontal rows of more holes since 1997 or 1998

    Usually you need to take off a lock and spam it into the lock hole, but on this one you just need a lid switch, or am I wrong are they both the same thing.
