What a beautiful week. The Poms ended with a series belting of 4-1, Australia went 2-0 and the Pom’s favourite son Carey made a match-winning *98 and sneered 10 catches for the match. Life is good.
Smith’s batting technique is very unorthodox, only a player at the very peak of his powers can be successful playing that way.
Consequently, it can all unravel very quickly once age starts having small impacts.
I might be spectacularly wrong, he’s a great player who might just be out of form, but IMHO a player who routinely walks across his stumps isn’t going to last long once the eyes and reflexes start to dull.
yeah he's giving away his wicket way too cheaply for an opening batter at international level and it's been like that for a long time now

I must admit to being frustrated watching Australia’s opening batsmen. Couldn’t believe the team conceded 372 runs in New Zealand’s second innings and were 4 for 34 in reply at one stage. I’m happy that they eventually won, but our opening guys are putting pressure on the rest of the team to bring the team home for the win.
Our middle order is almost an odi middle order with marsh head green and carey so i think it balances out
the middle order had to perform way over par, like if you added the averages of the 6 remaining batters you'd get less than 200

I like how calm McDonald is. A huge step up from Justin Langer who always tried to be the main character
Insipid and yes man is the best way to describe Ronald, just there to let NSW mafia do as they want, a marshmallow in the desert is harder than Ronald. Smith is a joke opening and he is using up 1 review every time for middle stump reviews.

No one is criticising Smith they're criticising whoever keeps opening him instead of batting him at 4

Nah his form right now is being criticized also, it's not just him opening.
He'll have a great innings followed by some real below average ones. Imo the criticism is fair, it's a performance based sport
If they're wedded to the same group I would shift Smith back to either 4 or 5 and open with Head. That would put a bit more pressure back on the bowling side from the top three which at the moment is a bit ploddy, and give the middle order more balance.@@samb8744
It also looks as though he has no idea where his off stump is. He just needs to stop desperately searching for runs so hopefully this break works in his favour.
