Yeah typically the character with quicker characters can break the combo chain. Even bane with his armor from his character power can be a problem. Most you can do is try to trap them after every wake up attack.
I tried this against guild bosses Brainiac and Enchantress and was destroyed by both, Brainiac can hit you with his tentacles and Enchantress does soul rip and the big fist
doesnt work at all, atleast on 12-20k hp bosses you need to kill in one go, they always break your fisting and kill you eventually, unless you have over9000 STR and +200% damage to heros/villains
To be honest though, this isn't as effective as some of the old jump, a, quick combo, jump back, jump in - rinse and repeat. But if you don't have a quick hitting knock-down combo with a half decent air attack on the way down - or if you are just a super slow character, it can be bad. But I can use that trick with people like Wonder Woman down to a science on the ai now. I don't think they know how to block when being hit by the same thing on wakeup all the time. By jump back or jump up, it depends on who the boss is, but there is usually a stupid broken wakeup window to just rinse-repeat moves until dead.

This works against most bosses, but characters like Cheetah or Harley Quinn are kinda difficult to do it to, great video tho
