this movie is a masterpiece. 9 years ago I got a really bad accident and spent 5 months in the hospital. I had to learn how to walk again and I have a handicap that will never go away. When my brother came to pick me up after I had be discharged, he told me I would have to take it slow. I looked at him, smiled and said 'Get busy living, or get busy dying'. This couch potato that had never done anything in her life has since then gone to Paris, she has gone to New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto and ticked off 'Galaxy's edge' at Disney World off of her bucket list. I will NEVER again get busy dying.
I feel for you and know where you're coming from. In 2000, I was in an accident and smashed most of my body. I learned in hospital that if I wanted sympathy, then I'll find it in the dictionary between shit and syphilis. Some twenty four years later, that still holds true.
As a disabled veteran like you, I learned very early on, in fact I was still in intensive care, that if I wanted sympathy, I'd find it in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.
Tim Robbins said that when he was crawling through the sewage pipe, the liquid was made by the prop department and was completely safe. I think The Shawshank Redemption pertains to both Red and Andy. Andy's character, reputation and dignity are redeemed when he escapes and gets revenge on the warden. Red is redeemed from his pessimistic outlook on life and finds "hope".
Brooks death was such a tragedy in the book it mentions that he came to shawshank in 1905 and was released in 1955 and couldn't handle how much the world had changed
Ducks, to see James Whitmore (Brooks) in his prime, please watch the 1954 Sci-Fi film classic "Them". Overlook the 70 year old practical effects, and you will discover a great film. Enjoy!

Speaking of the Miranda Rights, what they DON'T tell you is that, while anything you say can and will be used AGAINST you, anything you say that might help you is inadmissible in Court! So, you really have NOTHING to gain by talking without your attorney, and COULD lose EVERYTHING!
My thoughts on why Hadley (The Guard Captain) crippled Bogs: The warden ordered it so it would remove a problem for Andy before the Warden "offered" Andy the laundering job. The director does a great job of telling you what will happen before it happens. Andy gets a job in the laundry, and then he cleans money. Hadley is the warden's right-hand man, he does nothing that the warden doesn't order him to. He's a pure thug.
@@kh884488 Like Andy said "I was straight as an arrow on the outside, it took me coming to prison to be a crook." Prison changed Andy by testing him, forging him into something else. Same with Red, Brooks died because he didn't have Hope. Hope in a better future at least. Bogs and the sisters got what they gave out, a life of violence. This movie is 10/10 because of the motiffs layered upon each other not just in complexity but in depth and width, my two cents. Thanks for your comment.
Another brilliant Stephen King adaptation (and one of his personal favorites) is Stand By Me. It’s a really beautiful story of friendship that I think you two would love.

The more and more I watch this movie, I notice or realize certain things. Like how Andy played music over the speaker phone for everyone, was against the rules and outlawed. And yet when he got he library built, everyone could listen to music on their own time. Almost like it was more dangerous to have prisoners have hope together, but more safe for prisoners to have their own personal hope to themselves.
The Shawshank Redemption, fantastic movie, starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, this is the best movie NEVER to win an Oscar. It always brings a tear to my eyes at the end
The best line in that movie is “that’s just shitty pipe dreams”. -Red Best reactor line to this movie I’ve heard, “I hope he throws it in the toilet“. Neither you nor Red knew how right you were!😂😂
The camera work is amazing. Tim Robbins is 6'5" tall. You really notice him towering over anyone. When he's walking to his cell with the wardens clothes on underneath you see him duck under the doorway.

15:38 - "What made him do that?" Simple. Andy did Hadley a favor with his financial advice so, even though Hadley will never be a nice guy, he WILL act in his own self-interest; punishing anyone who messes with his good thing - his "convicted pet who provides solid financial advice."
@@poolhall9632 I’m not suggesting his treatment of different prisoners is in any way fair/equitable - only that Andy benefited by playing off of Hadley’s twisted self-interests.

Hope and salvation are the underlying themes of the Shawshank Redemption, and, of course, the Bible is the ultimate source of hope and salvation for all men, which is why the Holy Bible is a another recurring theme throughout the movie. (It is no accident that Andy conceals the rock hammer, which is the instrument by which he achieves his escape and wins his freedom, within the pages of Exodus.) By the way, the redemption is Red’s, not Andy’s. It is Red - the only guilty man in Shawshank - who has lost his hope and faith in mankind during his long years of imprisonment, and in whom hope needs to be rekindled.
First of all, this is a great film. But every time I look at him I always try to explain a scene to myself. How is it possible that after his escape, the poster of the Lady hung so perfectly on the wall again? Even if he were to crawl back again, How can he hang the poster like that again from the inside?
As disgusting as the escape route (the pipe) is, he had no alternative. At the latest when the director had retired, he would have ensured, carried out by the killer in uniform Hatley, that Andy was eliminated as an accomplice. It was now or never, there was nothing else. The film is a masterpiece with brilliant actors.
Originally a short story by Stephen King, the horror writer, called 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption'. And as usual, the book is better, believe it or not.
