Dick Winters said that if he could only pick one man to go into combat with it would have been Sgt. Floyd "Tab" Talbert. Tab survived the war, but became a recluse almost until his death. Just another form of casualty inflicted by war.

I love the way this episode plays with the perception of time. The time Winters and the SS soldier look at each other varies wildly from the opening scene, to the “actual” event we see while he’s typing it up, where it’s a very brief moment, to the flashbacks on the train, where it goes on and on, and then the single shot is replayed over and over again.

5:10, no, not “show respect.” It’s a unit citation, and SHOULD be worn by all active members of the unit. It is a proper part of his uniform, regardless of his being brand new.

36:10, none of them expected that they were done with the war, they just thought they’d have more time reconstituting the unit and training to integrate replacements, before they were going to be sent back. Also, left unsaid and unshown, between this episode and the next, they had several times where they were getting ready to go drop into France again, but the Allies were making incredible progress, and every time they got ready for a plane ride and a jump, it was called off because the Allies had overrun the site they were supposed to drop into.

It’s worth noting that Talbert had picked up a German poncho as a trophy, and was WEARING it when he went to wake up Smith for his guard duty. Smith woke to see the figure in a German poncho standing over him, revolver in hand, and combined with just having woken, stabbed with his bayonet. Also, it’s worth your time to google image search for “parachute silk wedding dress,” there were some beautiful dresses made from parachute silk.

Dike had previously been decorated for valor with a bronze (or was it silver?) star. He was just a bad leader and was injured during that fight.

10:50 One of the benefits of the training that the 506th (their regiment, under Col. Sink) went through was a LOT of nighttime drills, problem solving exercises, marches, and the like. Easy company, especially, if you recall Sobel had them doing nighttime marches every weekend, were excellent at functioning effectively at night, and it laid off for them several times during the war.

On dday he lead his squad destroying machine guns and in Holland he was awarded the bronze star due to successfully carrying a wounded man to safety while under sniper fire while being wounded himself. While at the battle of foy there are conflicting reports as to what happened dike but whats the msot probably thing that happened was he hit and was bleeding and thus going into shock. Because after foy dike was rotated out and served in the army up till Korea as an honorable officer thought out his career. While winter never was about to go out and lead his men he knew he had bigger responsibilities he just turned around and in his own words “picked the first officer he saw” and thus he choose spiers because he saw him first.

It’s one thing to say you have relatives in the IDF, but to go a step further further and downplay the atrocities going on perpetrated BY the IDF, is garbage.

While your enjoying a show in the comfort of your homes, your country is robbing people of theirs. Your country orphaned children and burned people alive... how can you even live with yourself while defending your country's actions. I just came from a footage of a little boy named Omar who could only watch as fire from Israel's explosive kill his father and I remember your video acting like you're the victims. Are you all brainwashed, coldblooded? Does humanity mean nothing to Israelis?

As a veteran, I appreciate both of these reactions. I don't know if Ron has had military experience/training (mandatory military service in Israel, maybe?), but his comments are well thought out and accurate as to what was transpiring on the battlefield. Keep up the good work.

The pandemic happened in 2003. The first time gay marriage was legal anywhere in the us was in 2004. Bill and Frank were also old enough to live through the aids and gay shaming period of the 80es. They had simply never lived in a world where gay marriage was an option.

Everybody could've survived this game. The old man told us friends share. All they had to do was switch bags. The rules simply said to get your partners marbles. The short girl didn't play and gave away her marbles. That was acceptable.

I know it only applies to America, but her asking why they weren't married before? Well if happened before 2013, no one in the history of ever has ever been legally married.

Although the show got Blithe's death wrong (because the surviving Easy company memebers thought he had died) the part where Winters talks to him in the infirmary and calms him down enough to recover really happened.

The guy at 12:16 who was walking on two broken legs with blood covering half his face is Edward Tipper, who is the real vet at the start of this episode who says he thought he'd either get a quick death or he'd come through without a scratch. Obviously, not without a scratch, he lost an eye and had to get a glass replacement and had to walk on crutches for a while, but he made it, and he even had a daughter whe was 60 years old!

The craziest part about this show is that so much of what's depicated actually happened. Joe Toye really did almost get blown up by two grenades, the second of which was accidentally dropped by Buck Compton. The real Lipton really did see a guy lift his head while they were crawling and get shot through the helmet. The real Popeye Wynn really did start apologyzing after getting shot in the butt. Winters really did find those maps with the markings of all the German gun batteries firing on the beaches. He really did shot one guy just as he was leaving. Obviously, the show condenses some things and makes some changes, but so much of it is just portraying things that actually happened, sometimes even downplaying them because the real events are so unbeliveable they didn't want people to think they were making it up.

Regarding Speirs shooting the POWs. General MacArthur had ordered US troops not to take prisoners in the opening days of the invasion, as if they did, they wouldn't have the manpower to push the assault. Speirs took it upon himself to kill those POWs so he wouldn't have to tell his men to do it (which he had to do earlier). He also shot a US trooper (as is mentioned in episode 3) who got drunk during a fight and wouldn't stop firing and thus revealed his company's position. Speirs shouted at him to stop multiple times, and the trooper finally turned and aimed his gun at Speirs, at which point Speirs shot him (in self defense). But Speirs wasn't just some trigger happy maniac. He went and reported the incident to is superior officer, however the officer was killed in a battle shortly after, so the event wasn't dealt with and thus the legend of Speirs began to grow. He was never proud of the rumors and was reluctant to talk about them until the producers of Band of Brothers told the real Captain Winters they didn't want to include the stuff about Speirs shooting the prisoners in the show because they were afraid of getting sued if he said they were lying. So the real Winters called Speirs and asked him point blank if the rumors about him were true which Speirs confirmed. And so, it made it to the show as you saw. Needless to say, Speirs more than earned his legend, as you already saw in episode 7

Shifty was an amazing shot, with unbelievable eyes, while they were hunkered down in the forest he spotted a new German artillery placement in the forest far away from them, when they got their own artillerymen to scope it out and measure the distance they had trouble seeing it even through binoculars. Shifty said he noticed it from a tree that "wasn't there the day before".

One thing I like to point out for this episode that isn’t made super clear is that the forests in this area aren’t natural. The locals farmed the trees meaning they planted them in rows like corn. This meant the Germans could see down the row of trees as far as their eyes or binoculars could see. Thus they could see the American troops in the forest clearly whereas the Germans were obscured by the buildings in the town. TLDR the American troops may as well been in an open field with how clearly they could be observed by the enemy

I've probably watched this a couple hundred times and seen at least a hundred reactions to it and never caught the random soldier during the last scene saying, "There they go, riding out again". Damn straight they deserve a ride. Thanks for catching that.

The situation portrayed here is EXACTLY WHY politics has no place on the battle field, Lt. Dike should NEVER have been put in command of ANY COMPANY, based on his "CONNECTIONS" Sobel was removed because Easy Company did not like or respect him, and some even wanted to "ACCIDENTALLY" wound or kill him while in combat in order to get another company commander, Lt. Spiers, although had a reputation, that may or may not be seen as desirable, he was respected immensely, and was cool under fire, and an exceptionally COMPETANT soldier and leader, so seeing winters in the middle of the battle, calling the most capable person he had to salvage an assault that had went sideways, shows just how good of a field commander Winters was, and after they had taken Foy, and a lot of POW's, it was apparent, Lt. Spiers was the right choice to be the C.O. of Easy company.

thanks for watching this series guys. My dad was a WWII vet and he and his generation were heros to me. some of your people and soldiers are and have gone thru a similar hell. from the USA, wishing you all the best and safe lives, and peace soonest. don't give up the fight.
