I'm having this fantastic lens for so many years, I already had it on my Canon T80 in 1987 and now the last STM version on my EOS 250D. Besides the sharpness, the bokeh and so on, one thing must be noted that nobody at this moment talked about: the feeling of depth. For example, when you focus on a middle of a field, of a scene, both the foreground and the background will be out of focus, augmenting the feeling of depth, of relief, of reality. I never observed that with any of the lenses I have. But nobody talks of that.
I bought the nifty 50 to use when I want to have an at best acceptable capture of an event and feel no need to utilize my expensive lenses. I found the resolution to be much better than expected and the camera/lens combination is much less intimidating than my other setups. It may not be the Ferrari of lenses but for a cheapo model its performance is beyond expectations.
I recently got this model lens as well and I also got the lens hood for it. It works very well on keeping strey light from landing on the front element causing lens flare. Very usefull when shooting in a portrate setting. If you get close to an opject to get somewhat the macro effect, the bokeh is unfreggenbeleivable but you can only get about 1 foot at the most with the min focus distance. HOWEVER there is a trick you can do with this lens if you want to shoot macro photography. Flip the lens around and hold it onto the face of the camera body and then move back and forth physically to get your focus and you can get REALLY close to objects and get that amazing depth of field macro photography shots.
Or you do what I do... Just buy some Extension Tubes. :) I bought a set with 3 Tubes, and when I use them all, I get a 1,57:1 magnification. So more than 50% bigger than an actual Macrolens (1:1) ;)
Nice video thanks for sharing. As you correctly point out, the nifty fifty is no lomger a 'standard' lens on a cropped sensor camera. But the good thing is that on my M50 it remains a standard with the Viltrox speedbooster, it's only a 56mm, but with a normal adaptor it becomes an 80mm f1.8 portrait lens. Fantastic. It may be worth considering getting both adaptors if you're on a budget for flexability. Almost 2 lenses for 1 on an EF-M camera. Good tip about the old plastic fantastic. There's not a huge difference between the 2 in terms of results. Nice work justMEduardo! Still relevant in covid lockdown 2020.
I say upgrade since it's $125 now only. Sometimes $119 also. The slightly more focused images are worth upgrading. I found the old version to be softer.
l have this lens. The rounded aperture blades will give round out of focus highlights from f/1.8-f/3.5. At f/4 and smaller, the highlights start to "polygon".
I am purchasing the 1.4 usm as my replacement i had my camera and lenses stolen about and the 1.8 stm was in there i am paying a little more than the 1.8 this is used by the way but got a good bargain for it for £180 it was at £299 have you used the 1.4 the guy in the shop told me its better than the 1.8
Hey Jamie, I have used lenses with f1.4. I have a 35mm and 85mm f1.4. They’re great. You’ll like the super melted creamy background it will produce with an f stop of 1.8
Hi. Got a Canon Eos M50. Im a newbie in photography nut I think my kit lens suck? Thinking of getting this one. DO you guys think it ll be good for me? I will 90% record guitar videos for my channel. I also got a relatively small room so I cant really get the camera back or much distance form the wall.
I think i have some problem with my Canon 50mm lens. coz there's a point on people nose when i use it to take portraits photos. how can i fix it ? Thanks
hey i want a lens that's great in low light if this is the only lens i need then i want to buy one. and if the auto focus is fast then that's great. i have a canon 400d 10.1 megapixels and the lens on there is alright but i want something better than my tamron 18-200. if the lens is great in low light and have a fast auto focus then i need to jump on that. what do you think about the tamron 15-30 i love that one. and what you think about the tamron 85mm lens. like you said i want a lens that i can do everything with. i never knew there was a full frame camera so i want to buy me a full frame camera and what do you think about the canon 6d and i want the canon 80d and that's it. 3 cameras is all i need and 4 lens 1. tamron 35-150 2. tamron 15-30 3. canon 50mm 4. tamron 85mm tell me what you think about everything i said
do you have manual settings on the camera? if the F Stop is 1.8, this may be why you are having trouble focusing because an f1.8 means that the total area that is in focus is super thin. Try setting it to f4 or f5.6 and you will increase the area that is in focus making it easier for you to see what is in actual focus.
Thanks for your video- I just got the 50mm f1.8 STM lens- but I've found even in manual focus the focus ring has some friction to it and if in video you want to rack focus quickly the faster turning of the focus ring kicks in the friction and that friction makes quite a loud noise which could be picked up by a mic too- lessened if you want to rack focus slower but what about fast focus racking? Is this something you've noticed too or do I have a dud? Thanks for your feedback!
justinspirational I will have to try mine on my camera again and listen to the autofocus motor. But this is the STM version which should be pretty quiet and from what I remember it was quiet for me. But I will double check.
justMEduardo I tried another in a camera store and the manual focus ring on that one does have some friction which in manual focus mode still makes noise at speed/racking focus quickly.. Still interested to hear if yours does still.. Thank you
went to a camera store and compared mine to the store's model and their 50mm has the same friction sound in manual focus- in autofocus mode it's quieter on a canon body though (I have mine on a speedbooster AF adapter on my Panasonic m43 body- don't know why an adapter would make the AF noisier with the same lens/same lens AF motor- but there you go..

i just bought this lens for my canon t7i (mainly because of the price) and i'm obsessed with it. it's my new favorite lens.
Me too!!
Me too!!
Thank you for this information...just received my 50mm f1.8 stm today..
This is a fantastic little lens. Exceptional quality images and at 1.8. its fast too. What's not to like? Its my go to lens for everyday use.

I think thaïs iPhone CAN go at f/2.2 but the sensor is smaller so less light
Yes.... at low light it's very good at this price range..... I like it...
im waitiing on my lens, for my canon M50 im excited about that. good video

yeah that's true, plus the better focus ring and quieter autofocus makes it worth it now with the lower price.

I have this lens and it seems to be well built. Mine survived a generator falling on it and still works perfectly.
Just got this lens yesterday hopefully I can get some awesome shots ..cool video bro
Ferdamus On The Beatz nice dude! Yeah try taking pictures and video at night or in low light situations and you'll see how cool this lens is
I heard the sweet spot on the 1.8 is about 2..2 or 3, whereas the 1.4 lens sweet spot is about 1.8 or 2. for still shots
would be nice to see the camera settings used for the night time shots
Tarw Bull I actually had automatic settings on for the camera.
The settings are irrelevant because light changes all the time.
great reviuw thank you ;) i love the night shots verrie much
Just got mine... wow!
I jumped from my old 50 to this version for the seven blades rounded bokeh.
The old one gave cheap bokeh with its only five blades.
Dam those night shots looks so butter~
Fremy Gonzales thanks!
What means butter ?????

You need an adapter to use this on an m50 this is an ef mount lens.
@@danc2014 Went with the EDM 22mm instead. Cheers tho.
how did you get landscape by 50mm? which parameters you used?
I think i have some problem with my Canon 50mm lens. coz there's a point on people nose when i use it to take portraits photos. how can i fix it ? Thanks
its a great lens and it was a good video, too

Sir is this a great lens for taking photos of events
Your review is good except for your background music. Very irritating. Something soft would be better
Excellent video.....
HOW DO I MAKE IY FOCUS WITH MY T6I ... IM HAVING TROUBLE
do you have the switch on the lens set to AF?
justMEduardo yes i did , but i just put it on manual focus but its soo hard to focus

Is it good at night even if my camera just goes to 1600 ISO?
Great video!
Whats the name of the canon camera bag?
Fantastic 👌
Hey man Good video Do you think Icould get good photos using this lens with the 1300D
Yeah, just remember that you will not actually get 50mm but instead around 80mm because your camera has a crop sensor.
The camera 1300D comes with the Lens 50mm 1.8 STM I wonder if i could make awesome portrait photos I like your style
