It's amazing how most English people have no idea that things they think are modern inventions were actually invented centuries before they did anything similar themselves. Spain wasn't Britain. It had an enlightened civilization and most definitely not a dark age.
It was the Moors that helped civilize Europe. They brought Science,taught how to manipulate elements from the table of contents, built castles and taught them how to bathe. Europeans were dying off from plague.
It was actually a slave based civilization

@@Yuba749Moor is a word that means “black” in every Latin language. Why would they use a word that means black if the people were as white as your average German?
Also, pick up any book written before the 19th century and you’ll see every instance of a Moor being described as black as pitch.
For instance in the 14th Century poem “Morien”, the Moorish knight part of the King Arthur legend.

Its funny that Historian would still call the Muslims in Spain as invaders when in reality the live there a long sides the Christians and Jews longer than any White people in America even set foot on North America and South America. If the Arabs and North African are invaders then we should also call the White people that settled in United sates now as Invaders too. The Arabs didn't just charged through Spain like Genghis Khan, they settled there and built their civilization and mingle with the locals. They were settlers just like early European in the US. Unlike in the US where the Native population were push out from their native land and force to march to a new reservations, the native Spanish Christians and Jews during that times were living side by side with the Muslim with each their owned sections or quarters of the city like in Jerusalem. As a matter of fact It was a Visigoth Christians Prince who invited the Arabs to help him toppled his king from the throne...many Spanish Christians lords and Visigoths chief later converted to Islam and intermarriage with the Arabs and North African and created a new sub culture of mixed ethnicity call Mozarabic.

I'm really disappointed by how *boring* this doc was. Time Team is usually SO fascinating, but this one barely even discussed the Muslims living in Spain, just casual mentions amidst constant archeological randomness.
