My professor of Botany knew the real story. Amanita muscaria mushroom. There was lot of it around and so yep they used it. When it was time to rumble they took massive doses, went into battle, drank their own piss for days reactivating the psychoactive properties.
There are no contemporary reports, written or oral, to berserkers ingesting anything in particular, nor any archeological finds indicating use of fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) among the Norse, much less specifically the berserkers. The symptoms are also a bad match for berserkers; it's more likely to cause fright than rage. There are, however, grave finds of seeds from henbane (Hyoscyamus niger), which contains psychoactive substances that can cause berserker like symptoms, in sufficiently (dangerously) high doses. That may not be very significant, though; henbane had many other uses, as well. Personally, I doubt that any drugs were involved. I believe that berserkergang was part "natural talent", and part self-induced religious trance. In the sources, berserkers often have a history of violence tracing back to childhood, some having killed multiple people before they were ten (e.g. Egill Skallagrimson). The Norse were, by modern standards, completely nuts, but there are no indications that they fed their children psychoactive drugs.
As long as the enemy falls and your losses are minimized it’s all good. A Warriors creed isn’t for the weak or timid …it’s lead follow or get out of the way.
I got this sussed out. Before wasting any more heart beats on a story with no end, I scrolled right to the end and listened to the last 2 minutes. Yep, par for the course. No ending. I keep hoping that the unnamed folks behind this travesty will get the hint, but oh no. pfft.
They mostly just stayed out of their way. The berserkers were utterly terrifying people. The berserker rage was the least of it; their casual attitude to death and killing was far more dangerous, along with the immense experience with violence that came with that attitude. It didn't matter to them, whether you were a king or a thrall; they'd kill you just as soon, either way. Giving them orders were pretty much out of the question, even before the rage took them; at most, you might provide some suggestions. What you could do, was take advantage of the opportunities the berserkers created; the fact that they held up part of the enemy lines, broke another part of the lines, scared the wits out a bunch of enemies, were spreading chaos behind enemy lines, etc.. They were highly valued, though, and not only by the Norse, but also as mercenaries abroad. According to his saga, Egill Skallagrimsson, homicidal maniac extraordinaire, was paid "two chests of silver", after fighting in the Battle of Brunanburh for King Æthelstan. True, sagas can exaggerate, but they rarely lied; the teller wouldn't want to be called out by a listener who knew a more canonical version. Also true, nothing is said of the size of the chests, and it was partially in compensation for the loss of his brother, who died in the battle, but it was still exceptional. You simply didn't pay individuals by the chests of silver; not even very small chests. In fact, not by any sort of container.
@@erikjrn4080 You staged your berserker and you kept your troops out of the way. Once they start killing, everyone is fair game. Berserkers were very dangerous, but useful, if you knew how to employ them correctly.
Marines -Hoorah for sheer ferocity in attack ; silent attackers like longbow archers shooting arrows tipped with explosives and 🥷 attacking from the shadows with sword; razor chains ⛓️ with weighted ball at one end ; and throwing stars [ Shurikens ? ], and snipers clearing the way with advanced thermal sights and noise suppressors ! Maybe covering their exit from the Supply Outpost?
Author or AI has never seen combat, Ina is the man you want next to you. The squad leaders reaction is pure BS. We all turn into Ina in close ham No to hand combat or die!!,
OK.....last time you'll see me grace your channel (Unsubscribed). You call your channel Nebula Tales but Tales have endings just as story's do. This Tale has no Resolution (look it up and learn), no true ending. I LOVED this piece of work. Leaving an awesome piece of work unresolved is just wrong.
Not bad. Not great. Going berzerk will obviate pain but not physics. A blade will still sever a hand/fingers easily. A slight re-write and proper pronunciation of berzerker could make this great.
God damn AI narrated CRAP. Why can't people narrate their own stories???? Is it really that hard??? This is getting rediculous. 95 out of 100 channels are AI narrated. It's ANNOYING
Sounded like some U.S. Marines I knew in Vietnam, bad to the bone when it was required!

If I remember correctly it is not only a hallucinogenic but toxic as well.
Then again battles aren’t exactly good for your long term health.

I prefer the creed... Who dares wins.
I kept thinking of Monte Python.
Run away.. run away...😂

The Vikings made good use of berserkers in combat.
If you don't know how to deploy your people, you shouldn't be in charge.
