This is the Dokken i remember! I saw them on this tour. I barely knew who they were then but after hearing Lynch shred for an hour, they became my favorite band.
@smithdsmit I seen them In New York, It was this same tour and I thought Dokken kicked Areosmiths ass hands down. The crowd went crazy and was chanting for Dokken to come back on and when Areosmith came on people were leaving including myself because Areosmith turned up so friggin loud they were all distorted, just sounded like crap. Dokken was the better band for sure !
Don actually got discovered by doing scratch vocals for the Scorpions while Klaus was recovering from vocal surgery. He would do the guide vocals for the demos that the band was working on.
The best opening band of all opening bands! As great as Dokken was, you have to remember that they never really were a headline act. Which, now looking back, it's hard to believe.
@Perle3456 The reason is because Dokken was not popular enough. You become a headlining band when you sell thousands of albums, and are popular enough that people want to see you. Even if Dokken is more talented than Aerosmith, they never were big/popular enough to be a headlining band. In 1988 they were starting to become a big band after releasing Back For The Attack, but that is the same time they broke up so it never happened.
Both Under lock and key and Back for the attack were platinum selling albums and tooth and nail reached gold. The song Breaking the chains was also a huge hit but only later during the mid 80s
@darlamilf47 I saw them open for everyone but they certainly did not sell the records that Crue or Metallica did. They were always on the cusp but never quite big enough to headline arenas on their own.
In 1988 they were getting there after releasing BFTA which reached platinum. Under lock and key also reached platinum. Under lock and key gold. Breaking the chains failed to generate good sells but the song breaking the chains later became a huge hit
I was at this show and half way through there set they blew all of the fuse's and the power went dead for about 30 minutes. It was epic.Dokken came out and played a whole 45 minutes more. One of there best shows ever.
Still "rockin Dokken"!!!! The In my dreams video was better quality but this is still good. Saw a video of them from 2021 with George Lynch doing a guest appearance. He can,"still bring the heat" and looks amazing at 67!!! 😁👍 Don Dokken's voice is going abit but he's still out there so that's what counts!!!
Yes George hasn't lost a thing. In fact it's almost like he's gotten better. As for Don, well singing and playing guitar are two very different things. Unfortunately Don has been losing his voice for a while now. It started really getting bad around 2008 or so. But it is what it is, I mean I've seen it happen with Don, Stephen, and Vince Neil. Not everybody is lucky enough to keep their throat in good condition.
i wish that bands now days would make music more like this long live the 80s metal bands. i think that dokken should have made it bigger than they did. this audio is a little on the week side but it is great video rattmaster how many bands do you have uploaded on youtube that are metal bands from the 80s i know that you have a lot of motley crue and ratt and some of savatage who else during the 80s metal sceane do you have on video?
Dokken is great, amazing band. George Lynch is an E.T. I´m a guitar fan, and particulary of Malmsteen, Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert, Kotzen, etc, but George is from another world...
I've been a Dokken fan since 1985. I was 15 and had just started playing hair guitar. To hear them play the song almost exactly like the record, and for George to play the solo almost note for note is so badass. He no longer does that, and it's so f annoying. As a guitar player who learned on his stuff, I wanna hear him play it just like I learned it. The Scorpions are THE go-to for perfect just like the record live performance. None better.
Dino (Vinnie's nickname) completely mutilated my Jackson Dinky with Sustainiac. He was supposed to install a Ghost Floyd Rose with MIDI electronics along with the Sustainiac (which I had just gotten back from Alan Hoover of Maniac Music -maker of the Sustainiac - who had repaired it). Although we had agreed after a discussion that Dino would route out a new cavity in the back of the guitar body in order to separate the Ghost and Sustainiac electronics (which Maniac Music owner Alan Hoover adamantly advised doing to avoid crosstalk), Dino proceeded to stuff everything into the one lone cavity, which pissed me off when I saw what he did (or didn't do). He also gouged a hole in the paint/wood in the back of the body around an inch in diameter. All of my friends told me they would've decked him on the spot just for the paint, but I'm a pretty non-aggressive guy. He did say that if I ever needed a paint job he'd give me a discount for what he did to the paint. That was freaking nice. So, I tried the guitar out in his building, which is a corrugated steel structure with tons of echo. Plus, I was playing out of a real muddy amp he had there and his buddy was constantly yacking away. It was hard to hear - just like when you go to Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon. So, the guitar basically worked but something didn't seem right. When I took it home it was obvious that there where high pitched squeals and weird digital noise artifacts and very low output to boot. So, I called Dino and calmly told him that there were some problems with the guitar. Dino proceeded to start screaming at me at the top of his lungs, saying that he did what I asked and that the guitar had taken years off of his life (!!??). I (still) calmly asked him to let me explain what was specifically going on. He screamed some more stuff and then abruptly hung up the phone. I immediately called him back and (still) calmly asked him why he was acting so irrationally. He said, and I quote, "This is who Dino is, get used to it." Then he finally calmed down (just a notch) and said that I should bring in the guitar and he'll look at it. I figured, this guy is truly psychotic, I'll just find someone else to fix it and (still) calmly passed up on his offer and ended the call. I relayed the above to the BBB but, as I only could find one receipt (not the main one), they could not make a case against him. At first he lied to them and claimed that he had never worked on a guitar for during that time period. He lied at first because he knew that I couldn't find any receipts (at least initially). I finally found a receipt for a down payment, but the BBB, even after catching him lying to them, wound up not giving him a negative rating and closing their case. Dino is a hack, a lying sack of shit and a psychopath. He did do one basic set up on a Strat for me that was okay, but I wouldn't trust Dino to do anything ever again after what that piece of trash did to me. I can't tell you how much money it cost me bringing the guitar to 2 different people who couldn't fix what he did (one local guy refused to touch it, as it was utter spaghetti in the electronics cavity). Bottom line, DO NOT bring anything to this guy. If you do, you do so at your own risk.
@drewbyjames Did you sse them open for triumph at the sports arena..?? that show my jaw hit the ground..both bands and guitarists were shredding that night..!!
how Dokken was ever considered a hair band , they don't look very " hairy " live ! Why he is changing the solo so much , I guess this is a live performance but , the solo is reallygreat as is !!
I was there!!! Didn't the power blow out that night? They had to stop playing! lol. Oh never mind! That was the night they played with Kiss. I seen em at The Colosseum so many times though.
+William Vanzandt Your right....Well sort of. I was there too and they did blow power during "Its Not Love" but they were on tour with Priest. This was Priests Turbo Tour. Great fucking show. I was 16 and drunk off my ass lol!
just go into my channel and browse around, I have too many to name. Motley and Ratt are my fav bands so I uploaded a lot from them. But I pretty much have videos from all the big glam bands in the 80's, some thrash bands too. I would have more uploads but copyright claims prevent me from uploading certain material or has deleted them off my channel.
I'm offended that Dokken had to make the opening for Aerosmith...I for one found Dokken way better than Aerosmith....Dokken are highly talented musicians..Unchain the Night was knocked one's feet off...
aerosmith is an iconic band. Just to be clear I like dokken better....but dokken is not iconic. Tyler,Perry and company released some incredible music in the 70;s. Then somehow sold an incredible amount of albums in the 90s. Dream on, sweet emotion, back in the saddle, walk this way and the list goes on. I don't think dokken has 1 iconic song tbh.
there goes Don with his stupid air drumming thing again..lol. You would think he could come up with something better than that to do in front of 20000 people. However, he was a 1 of a kind singer..very strong at this point in his career
I think he air drumming thing may have come naturally for him. It does for me when I am rocking out to rock tunes. May have been because he knew how to play drums.

George Lynch will go down in history as an amazing guitarist
Yea, amazing how he used the same riff for 2 different songs. Wicked sensation
Its not even the same notes@@michaelbackhus1923
So good to hear Don when he could sing.
His voice went to shit and he still continues to try to sing what a waste
Don was one of the best. I graduated in 88 and back then he kicked ass!
this is probably the most underrated band from the 80s. they should have been been the biggest thing ever!
Don sounds SO GOOD here.....miss these days.
That solo always blows my mind... esp seeing it performed live
This is the Dokken i remember! I saw them on this tour. I barely knew who they were then but after hearing Lynch shred for an hour, they became my favorite band.
I saw these guys live in the 80s more than 5 times and they put on great shows every time!
I think it woul be hard to find a better soloist than George, regardless of era. Speed, fluidity, technicality, invention...he has it all.
Thomas Finley he's got all of those particularly the speed technicality, and invention
Thanks !!!
Dokken is GREAT !
The best band ever !
@smithdsmit I seen them In New York, It was this same tour and I thought Dokken kicked Areosmiths ass hands down. Don actually got discovered by doing scratch vocals for the Scorpions while Klaus was recovering from vocal surgery. He would do the guide vocals for the demos that the band was working on.
If Klaus hadn't returned, he most likely would have become the singer of the Scorpions.
Saw this tour, support to ACDC in Wembley in March 1988......so good, great time....loved every minute......🌺
I was at this show. Thanks for the upload.
I saw this 87 tour in Indianapolis at Market Square Arena. Killed it.
Don's voice back then kicked ass! Too bad his voice is no more...
Missed this show but I saw Ratt/BonJovi there, second row on the floor.Good show-both bands.
Dokken was an amazing band...
I was at this very show....over 20 years ago. I remember it like yesterday.
WTF, don sounds fuckin great for once and the mike stand move he makes at 2:25 is ninja-like!!
The best opening band of all opening bands!
As great as Dokken was, you have to remember that they never really were a headline act. Which, now looking back, it's hard to believe.
Man i wish so much I could have seen them then!
George you steal my heart everytime with your genius guitar playing! Love this just wish it was clearer :)
I saw them opening for ACDC one year later. What an awesome combo.
@FaDeHeRO yea I was at this show and left after Dokken was done. Didn't even stay to watch Aerosmith.
\m/ one of my fav Dokken songs George's playing is awesome!
LYNCH! \m/
Man , I miss those days .

Both Under lock and key and Back for the attack were platinum selling albums and tooth and nail reached gold.

They were basically spot on!
Love the solo on this tune!!

I'm sorry guys ... but George Lynch is a freakin' BEAST ! He just attacks that guitar !
that sound of George... fucking amazing...

@FaDeHeRO I totally agree mate.
I was probably at this show...lol...This show was was before the technology we have today, Wonder how it was recorded.

We never asked
@drewbyjames Did you sse them open for triumph at the sports arena..?? that show my jaw hit the ground..both bands and guitarists were shredding that night..!!
back when rock was rock
how Dokken was ever considered a hair band , they don't look very " hairy " live ! Why he is changing the solo so much , I guess this is a live performance but , the solo is reallygreat as is !!
George Lynch mostly improvised his solos, even in the studio
@LRN_News yea he says that the only solo that he actually made for the actual song is the tooth and nail solo, the rest were just improv
@1978soloalbums Description says Aerosmith
@Rattmaster86 Agreed!!
Excuse me it was 2020!!!😌
I was there!!! Didn't the power blow out that night? They had to stop playing! lol. Oh never mind! That was the night they played with Kiss. I seen em at The Colosseum so many times though.

@bodizone1 don't make me come over there
@FaDeHeRO yhes.....but who knows...
@FaDeHeRO Addict-smith sucks. George Lynch rules! Check out George and Dave Navarro on Dave's show - he is left in respectful awe!
Lynnnnnnnchhhh
George Lynch is a monster!
2:29
George Lynch, Don Dokken, why, why, why didn't you two get along? By now, you'd have made Metallica look like Poison.
Don was not much of a front man at all. Doesn't seem to know what to do with himself during the solos.
@1251wire more kung fu panda like!
there goes Don with his stupid air drumming thing again..lol. You would think he could come up with something better than that to do in front of 20000 people. However, he was a 1 of a kind singer..very strong at this point in his career

Who was the headliner?
Dokken was much better than shit Aerosmith
