Merry Christmas! And I get that Tom wanted to leave because they was mostly doing this with Edd but since he's gone it was time to wrap up. But the "fans" love the videos so they decided to keep it up. I'm perfectly fine that "The End" was a great conclusion to the end of the original storyline. Tord kinda came back and was a fun plot twist Villian. And the running joke of Matt saying "Not The Face!" for most of the Eddisodes videos he'd say that but he didn't actually seen getting hit. Tord hitting him and Matt saying "My Face." Felt like a perfect ending punch line to the joke. Not to sound mean but sometimes it's time to move on. I'll forever miss Edd. Damn I didn’t think people thought this way about Tom, even when I was younger I saw Tom’s departure as a way of closure between him and his friend Edd, thanks Tom for all the work you put in to keep Edd’s world spinning.
Genuinely can’t believe Tom was freaking 21 when taking control of Eddsworld, as someone who’s currently out that age right now I couldn’t imagine just how stressful that could be .
Not to mention he suffered a major loss and had to just, pick up where Edd left off. Imagine how difficult it is to do what you used to after losing someone that close to you, and now imagine doing something that always remind you of him, taking on several roles that should be reserved for more people, severely under-budget, have a frequently volatile community, and in constant fear of messing up and ruining your best friend’s legacy.
I used to feel not so strongly about Tomska. A funny, respectable guy, who made a few mistakes, but was still talented. After watching this video though, and having that context of him spending his own money to keep the memory of his friend alive... I have no words. He's suffered enough.
Honestly, it should also be paired with all the other struggles. Tomska made some extremely bad moves in his career, because of what was within his control as well as what was outside of it. Tom has acknowledged A LOT of those mistakes, and he has shown that he's tried to move past them. He's burned bridges, destroyed friendships, made unbalanced deals where he underpaid people (very early on), and he's acknowledged that, he's made sincere attempts to make up for a lot of those wrongs, and more importantly, to make sure he didn't repeat them. Add that to his ever present mental health struggles, and then add in that in this case, it actually wasn't his fault, yet he was haunted by it nevertheless. One of the few things he did as earnestly as he could manage at the time, out of the love for friend he lost far too soon, yet it was never enough. I can't imagine how much doubt that created, how much introspection was needed to fully believe that he did what was right. And that he wasn't making another giant fuck up. Tom is far from perfect, but I can't imagine how unnecessarily worse this made some moments. I hope this video might help even a tad.

It's really sad how your mistakes will paint you as a bad person, when in reality you're trying the best you can to keep your own demons in check, while trying to entertain people at the same time. Being a public figure will do an awful number on most people's mental health :(

I actually like it when people make mistakes because it shows who they really are underneath the mask of a celebrity, and for Tom it just shows how challenging and mentally draining it can be to be director and writer, it shows how hard he was trying, it shows that celebrities are humans and can make mistakes... But even if you apologize several times you just can't escape the endless harrassment. In a world where the internet has been around for years things were bound to change, people were bound to become comfortable, too comfortable with the idea of sharing your thoughts.

Something I think some people who don't know Tomska very well need to know, Ed's death and the actions Tom took afterwards haunt Tom mentally. He has a reoccurring nightmare of Ed coming back to life to do nothing except scold Tom for everything, and saying how disappointed he is in Tom. Tom knows more than anyone that at some parts along the way, he fucked up. He doesn't need people spreading false narratives and harrassing him online to drive that point home.
This is so sad. Tom never deserved this. Without him, this fandom would of fallen apart. I feel so bad for him. These “fans” need to be more considerate.
i had the pleasure of meeting both tom and matt in the same day at a convention back in 2018, i was a very cringe teenager but they were still both so brand new and enthusiastic when talking to me, i still hold my interactions with them very close to my heart :) i also must’ve looked pretty guilty about asking tom to sign my eddsworld poster that i had just bought from matt, he was very reassuring and let me know he was happy to do it for me! now that i’m older i realise how much tom actually did for eddsworld that i didn’t even know. i’ll always respect him, he’s such a genuine and beautiful soul and i find myself enjoying his work just as much as the years pass
also adding on, tom even signed my phone and told me how to preserve it which i thought was pretty badass. i looked in the gallery later and found that he had snuck in a few selfies while he had my phone too :D
I watched Eddsworld back in 2009 and kept up with it until after Tom's tenure was done. It's crazy to think in retrospect people are complaining it's not like the old show cause... it just can't be? Edd is gone, and it's not the 2010-era of the internet. Edd had a big influence on me as a person and as a creative, I think it is cool that show remains alive in some way, as per his final wishes. I'm pretty sure even Edd knew it wouldn't be the same.
It still disgusts me to this day that this man tried his absolute best to keep the memory of his best friend alive, as well as give the fans of the show some more out of it, and he still got people online trashing him for it. It's not like the show itself was perfect and resempt from criticism, but the kind of stuff he got flack for, like being a leach to Edd's show and memory, just makes me sick still. This man saved the show when it was pretty much done for, not just for the fans, but for his best friend as well. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't still have Eddsworld today. Just a fact.

I remember back when Edd had just passed away and the video TomSka made about it, he'd talked about struggling with depression before but his best friend dying absolutely crushed him. It was so hard to watch. I couldn't even continue watching the series because it hurt me so much, and Edd was just a large inspiration to me. To this day I couldn't pick it up again. Can't possibly imagine how devestating and hard it was for his close friends. I'm really sorry for Tom in particular, he didn't deserve all this bullshit. I hope he's doing okay now.
I met Tom in person a few months back at a convention he did not have the aura of a person who would do anything just for the money his decision so he can finally grieve and move on over his friends passing is understandable he’s a genuine and nice guy who just wants to be seen as that and be a member of the entertainment scene
The fact he doesn’t charge a penny for meet and greets, selfies, or autographs while the celebs always charge is testimony to his selflessness and his commitment to giving his fans a meet and greet they want.
It's such a shame there are fans out there who don't recognize the tremendous amount of love and care Tom had for the project, he really gave it his all. Glad this video exists to help clear up some misunderstandings.
Tomska did so much for Eddsworld. It really disappoints me that he constantly gets hate for claims people made like “he’s profiting off his friend who passed away”, or he gets trashed for small, dumb mistakes he made (cough cough “Tord is cancer”). I miss him being a part of the show, but if he’s happy, I’m happy 💙
I'd also say it was owed to the new antidepressant medication he was on. His doctor had warned him not to make any important decisions during this time. Clearly that couldn't work out. I appreciate that this video doesn't do any baseless speculation.
It is incredible to think that now that Tomska is gone, a small part is repeating and saying the same things to Matt in the style of Beyond, and apart, saying that they miss Tom's scripts, when they criticized them more than ever before, it is a cycle, Unfortunately.
Personally I think that Beyond needs to adjust it's pacing and humor, and Matt sometimes has a bit of an attitude problem, but I do agree that Matt has become the fandom's scapegoat.
I feel like they’re underproduced, most of the episodes are just standing around and they feel really awkward. But even then if I dont like the newer episodes, I still love what Matt is doing for the show. And I can say the same for Toms run, I think they’re over produced and too fast paced. But I still love what he did. I usually enjoy both of those eras more though when I just think of them as different shows.

It's pretty common knowledge that Tomska has had horrible issues with his body image and how he perceives himself, and that's just so fucked up to make his body (even if it is the character, it's BASED on Tomska) a joke." He also said that NONE of Legacy was canon. Aka the era where Tom took over and made the finale for Edd. Just shat on all his hard work. Tldr; Matt is a horrible person.
To be honest I think it's kind of weirdly sweet in a way that Eddsworld has gone from Edd to Tom and then finally to Matt. It kind of show just how much their friendship mattered to them all and it also shows them as a similar trio that they were in the actual cartoons, all putting in their own hardwork to make Eddsworld what it is with their own quirks. All three era's of Eddsworld are different to me and you can clearly tell when one is done by Edd, Tom or Matt. Even if Tom helped with some of Edd's old work. It's definitely amazing to see just how real the relationship was between them all with Tom and Matt actively putting their own time on the line (and both probably dealing with a LOT of shitty "fans") to make Edd's dream continue to grow.
Truthfully, I've been a huge fan of Tom for years and I've kinda taken a mental note of all the things he's said around the topic. A large part of the research is just recalling where he said particular things haha
I find it ironic that the fandom grilled Tom for falsely implying Tord was a "cancer" to the show when said very same fandom flamed and even threatened Tord for simply existing. The internet is seriously bipolar at times.
I 100% agree with this. I think this is because after Tord left the fandom realized what they did and indeed can have a negative impact on someone’s life.

Before I clicked on this video I never even knew there were these false allegations towards Tom. I grew up on the happy loving side of Eddsworld, where we loved each person equally. Tom is such a nice guy and gave Eddsworld his all to keep it going. I hope those people grow up to realize they were mistakenly wrong about him. He really doesn't deserve this 💔
I'm glad Tom found closure, and even though I'm seeing some hostility towards Matt and Beyond for its issues, I hope that the fandom can learn from its sins. Also some corrections. Tom acknowledged that he couldn't consult Tord Larsson but hoped that a new voice actor for Tord would leave the real Tord alone. Also Tom and Tord were costars but not exactly friends. They had some tensions early on, which they soon buried
It’s still sad how not only Tom, but Matt’s wife, Matt, Patryk, Paul, and almost everyone in the eddsworld crew is being harassed for this. I respect and support them for what they did and respect that they didn’t wanna be associated with eddsworld anymore! Tom did his best, and now Matt’s having his go. Tom was a good man and tried his best to keep his friend’s world spinning, and, he even added some more story to it! He didn’t HAVE to do it! And he did it anyway! That’s the important part! He’s still doing amazing work to this day! It doesn’t matter WHAT that work is! Personally eddsworld is the reason I even got into art and animations- it’s awesome! But over all, for those of you reading this, leave the cast alone. Don’t just go at them with hate just because you don’t get your way. It’s not your show. And you have no control over what they do. It’s their choice and we just need to respect that. They are trying their best to keep Edds greatest work of art, going. And it’s how u know that they truly respected Edd and his creations. Thank u eddsworld for the amount of fun and laughter you gave to me in my childhood and thank you Edd for your amazing art and ideas. They will forever be known and will go down in history.

I really miss Tord and Tom (even though Tom is still around in his own UA-cam channel, TomSka and always will be) and feel terrible for them. I really agree with you. People in the EW fanbase often think that Tom and Tord hated each other in real life. Sure, they might have gotten into some arguments before, but everyone does that. Its almost like saying that just because IronMan and Thanos are enemies, they hate each other in real life. You did a really good job on this video :D
Yeah. Tord didn't made it clear. Neither did Tom. They just don't like each other. The EW fandom was something else. First they stalked and Harrased Tord which causes him to leave, and it was from the attention to. They were harassing Matt and his Wife. They force Payl x Patryck to be a thing by forcing their live counter part. They did way to many things to scare their creators.

I was one of the fans of the original Eddsworld. I was so upset by Edd's death that I stopped watching afterwards. I vaguely heard of a continued show but I never went back to it. Hearing about all this aftermath and what happened to a 21 year old Tom really breaks my heart.
I still remember being there when Saloonatics first released. I remember the main thing people disliked was surprisingly the animation. I remember hearing a lot of “it’s super choppy” mixed with the art style being a bit more wild compared to casual Eddsworld stuff. Considering it’s arguably one of the impressive animations on the channel (in my humble opinion) it feels weird in retrospect
I think Spider-Verse made experimental animations more popular, especially ones that experiment with the framerate. I think had Saloonatics came out today it would have been praised like it is now. I guess Saloonatics was ahead of its time.

TomSka has always been a funny and cool guy who makes great content. Eddsworld, no matter if it was Edd, Tom or Matt running it, has always been an enjoyable time. I may have been a late viewer but I've watched every eddisode and I love the hard work that everyone involved had put into it. I wish both TomSka and the Eddsworld team well and hope for both sides to have a good future.
I guess it's safe to say I was also a late viewer cuz I like to watch TomSka especially the ASDF movie back when I was a child. One day around 2016-2017, one of the Eddisode 'Fun Dead' passed my recommendation list but my past self just scroll away to other videos for no reason. Then, when I found that video again during the Quarantine, I watched it straight away & my head was like "hey, why not try to watch some old UA-cam videos". After that, I just started to watch more Eddsworld to find more about them & to this very day I still thinking why I didn't click their videos earlier..... Being in this community are surely an experience for me
I've met Tom, he's one of the nicest yet most awkward people you'll meet. Me and my friends growing up were all local to Tom living in Lincolnshire city at the time so we all knew the deal with Edd first hand through mutual friends and word of mouth, Tom moved to London to be near his friends around the time Edd's health went south so I never thought there could even be a negative intention when it came to any his work despite all the comments. I've never really been a fan of Eddsworld personally like my friends were but I respect it and what it was. The internet didn't deserve Tom
To this day, TomSka is one of, if not my favourite content creator. I knew about asdfmovie LONG before I knew or even heard about Eddsworld. It was one of the earliest UA-cam videos I remember watching as a kid. It's an inspiration in my digital art style and my tastes in humor with how wacky and off the rails it could be, and its no different in Eddsworld. Tom's character in Eddsworld is my favorite of the bunch as I share his cynicism as well as my persona having black eyes too. His character brings so much smiles and laughs to my face as well as being able to bounce off of the other characters. I have only the highest and utmost admiration for Tom both as a person, character and content creator, and to see the toxicity he had endured while spearheading the show only strengthens my respect for him.
For me, personally, 10:08 hits the hardest. I've been a fan of Tom's skits and Asdfmovie way, WAAYYY before I ever heard of Eddsworld. I only heard of Eddsworld 2 years ago, and was immediately saddened by the death of Edd Gould. His show was also hilarious and enjoyable, and the old and new eddisodes were indifferent to that opinion. This video was definitely a video I was looking for, as I never really saw what happened to Tomska. Here's to a hope that he bears a happier life now.
he posted a vlog on his side channel recently and he says in it that the dark cloud has passed, which is wonderful :) he had a vlog series I watched religiously called "last week" for 3 years starting back in 2016 when he was a clinically depressed alcoholic, stressing over declining views, losing brand deals, and funding crash zoom lmao. now he's financially killin it again, chillin with his GF and their pups, and making whatever videos he wants to make with two of his best friends. Kinda inspirational really ahaha
He's got a series called Last Month (a sequel to his "Last Week" series from a few years ago) that I'd recommend over on Tomska and Friends! He talks a lot about his mental health and how he's doing, and even recently about how people's comments on eddsworld specifically make him feel now vs how they used to affect him. He's doing a lot lot better. (And whilst his health/wellbeing is obviously much more important than his content, the videos he/his colleagues make over at Tomska and Friends are always great too!)
I watched a few videos from Tomska, and seeing Tom having fun, laughing, going to conventions with his friends, or just doing something he likes is heartwarming
I've been a fan of Eddsworld ever since its early years. I remember thinking episodes like "Spares" and "25ft Under The Seat" were new, and a big evolution for the Eddisodes. I was there through it all, and still am. The change in direction when Tom took over was unavoidable. Even if he tried to stay 100% true to Eddsworld's original feel, it's impossible to do that without Edd himself. But he carried on that show in a way that could only be described by its actual title: a legacy. I am thankful that he continued the series and founded a new generation of Eddheads. Although I'll admit, the focus on his character during The End Parts 1 & 2 did feel a bit funky, mostly because even though I understood it was all for the story, there would be those that would only focus on that fact and claim he was self-inserting too heavily, and it's hard to watch that episode without hearing those judgements in the back of your head. This video does a great job at laying everything out in a way that explains the usual discrepancies during the Tom era. Thank you for making this video. I've also seen a large portion of your videos by this point, too, so congrats on a very entertaining and informative channel.
wow, even though I'm Eddsworld fan only from 2018, i respected Tom even since that time. He is really did a great job. But I must add that Matt is also good, I am really respect them both. Also I'm gonna miss TomSka. :(
For some reason, i only watched TomSka when i was a kid for ASDFmovie and way back then i didn't know who Eddsworld is until 2020... but i felt bad how TomSka decided to move on to go into his separate work after he got harassed by hates, but for some reason Eddsworld was his original home, original piece of work that Edd brought him in and even though the show itself is not the same without TomSka, the real Edd or the real Tord involving with the creation... i'm glad how Matt still keeps the show spinning with the newer fans until what would happen to the show in the future, i would be surprised if Matt never retires and keeps Eddsworld spinning until he dies or few of his friends die.
Same experience, in fact asdf was one of my first introductions to UA-cam! I've watched Tom's content for a while so I can't believe I never got the memo about Eddsworld, I knew that of it's existence but not what it was about. Once my younger sister showed me what Eddsworld was around a year or two I recognized Tomska and had no idea he was a part of this charming webshow. God I wish I learned about it sooner because it perfectly encapsulates the type of humour I find funny and Edd (both character and irl person) was extremely relatable to me. I've been dreaming of making animated adventures of me and my friends for a while and it just baffles me that I hadn't watched Eddsworld earlier. Then I found out about Edd's passing, Tord and Tom's harassment from "fans", the extreme shipping and other awful predicaments (JSL being one of them).. It just breaks my heart that something that brought me so much nostalgia and comfort (despite only knowing it for a year or so) had such a tragic history. I respect all that Matt Hargreaves and Christopher Bingham as well as the whole crew behind Eddsworld Beyond have done for Edd's legacy. It's nice these animated adventures never faded away but I can't help but feel awful about how many aspects related to it negatively affected it's own creators
Man, we're pretty much in the same boat. The ASDF movie was the first watched video that introduced me to TomSka as a kid and I didn't know much about Eddsworld till 2020 started to kicking people's butt. As for me, I started to watch some old UA-cam videos out of boredom cuz the quarantine and so I found Eddsworld then watch more about them to realize why I didn't click their videos earlier and I still thinking about it to this very day
It's extremely depressing how much people with bad intentions get away with less criticism or consequences than those with good intentions. Tom seems like he always tries his best and deserved better for this effort than many gave him.
I feel bad for Tom, the fact that these toxic fans were so rude and disrespectful. I’m so glad that Tom is recovering from that, he did a lot of things to make the Eddsworld fandom alive, now he is focusing on his own pace and moving on. Even when he left Eddsworld, he still made me happy! I will always appreciate his hard work. 💙
i really wanna thank eddsworld as a whole for legitimately making me the person i am today. eddsworld really inspired me to start getting into drawing, and if tom didn’t put the time and dedication in making those episodes, i don’t know what i’d be. maybe i’d be happier, but honestly if i had to redo this, i’d probably do it again because it’s really just such a big thing in my life. :)

Like many in the comments, I had no idea about the rumors that Tom did anything maliciously. I was a fan in 2012, saw how much Edd meant to him, and thought it was so sweet that he wanted to continue Eddsworld. I had no idea that was only the tip of the iceberg. Tomska's contributions to his friend's legacy is beautiful and selfless.
I feel terrible about him get all these threats and he’s a good dude that kept a good UA-cam series alive and the videos he helped made are my favorite ones
i have to be honest, i teared up really hard putting myself in toms shoes hearing "this isnt how edd would make it" or "this is tomsworld" because that was one of his closest friends that he lost to cancer years prior and thats such a reprehensible thing to say. i cant possibly imagine saying that to tom after he put everything into this the way he did. its disgusting and i do not blame him for leaving when he did because i wouldnt be able to handle it either, thats such a painful scenario to be in.
thanks for clearing everything up about this situation. i was 13 when Eddsword Legacy ended, and as I kid i didnt understand why Tom had left. But now that I’m turning 21 next month, i couldn’t imagine the amount of stress he was in. Props to him for sticking it out and sacrificing so much for Edd, his family, and the fandom.

I feel like i can say Tom never did nothing anything wrong. i can also say i was never mad that it took 4 years for Eddsworld Legacy to finish. if anything, it extended the lifespan of the series. I know Tom's management wasn't the best. but the man doesn't deserved to be nailed to a cross for it. Tom had big shoes to fill, and for what he did. He did an astronomical job. no one else wouldnt do a better job as Tom did. Give the man his flowers already. 💐
Honestly, even if EW beyond didn't exist, the show would still be alive through all the fan-projects, fanarts, animations, edits, this fandom is still active and that makes me so happy

It's always upsetting when fans confuse characters with real people. Sometimes fanbases can really ruin shows with ships and unwanted criticisms. I honestly feel bad for Tom since he didn't really know what to do in this situation. He just wanted to help continue his friend's legacy.

Tom literally did so much to keep edd’s memory alive, honor his wishes, and give the fandom so much. How anyone could hate him is absolutely bull. Tom deserves nothing but our respect and love
Im very happy that (at least what Tom says in his twitter) is recovering up. I really think that his departure from Eddsworld was a good decision, not for the quality of the show (that's another topic apart) but for his mental sanity. I think Tom did the best work he could on Eddsworld, and that should be a fact. I surely hope the best for him.
Honestly i feel so bad for him, he lost his best friend, tried to fulfil his promise to keep eddsworld going, was severely depressed and greaving, made mistakes and now people accuse him of the worst things. I love matt and tom but i cant stand eddsworld because of the community now

wow never knew people thought of tom like that, i’m proud to say that i’ve always loved tom and what he did for eddsworld, i will obviously miss him voicing for toms character but change is good. also i give masive respect to tom and all he did for Eddsworld i’m just glad i grew up happily watching Eddsworld without knowing the drama.
This is a brilliant video that brings to light a lot of things, good and bad, that I think a lot of fans aren't aware of. You do a great job not villainising anyone while still explaining where things have gone wrong. This is definitely a video the fandom needs.
Wow, firstly thank you for making this video. When Edd passed away I didn’t expect to see anymore of the series, and when I did learn about it, it was from a lot of those negative sides on how Tom was ruining it and being greedy and causing drama, and as a result I never ended up seeing any Eddsworld legacy episodes, I didn’t go off Tom completely and would watch him occasionally, but I always felt sad that he had apparently done all of those things. Learning now how he didn’t do those things, and actually donated the earnings to charity and put himself out of pocket to ensure it all came through, I feel so let down by some of the community for spreading out that misinformation and hate campaign. I will be watching it through many times now to ensure I do my part to help support the effort that went into it, and to provide even a tiny amount of revenue for the charities they support. Tom is a genuinely cool dude who even in the early years of youtube never let the size of his channel or his success separate him from collaborating with people. In fact Edd, and the whole gang always seemed super supportive of online creatives, even taking the time to comment on my old cringy songs about them. I had no idea he went through so much to give the series the send off it deserved for his friend and hearing this story just gave me a whole new layer of respect for the guy.
Thanks for explaining everything. Now I know why Tom left Eddsworld (or the main reason, at least). Tom did a great job, and I hope the best for him more than ever. Thanks, Tom. Im sure he made Edd proud.
Tomska was one of my favorite youtubers back in the day! When I discovered Eddsworld, Edd was still alive but only for a year. It was devastating loosing Edd as a fan, and seeing how Tom was trying desperately to try and keep promises while still processing the loss of a friend was wild. I stopped keeping up with the channel after that. But always glad to see people sharing the love/respect for the channel!
EddsWorld made me start making so much art almost a decade ago and then get more improved as the years passed by. I’m not into EddsWorld anymore, but when I saw a post about it, I smile remembering all the episodes and making art of it and just my own genres of it or just making original stuff. Eddsworld is awesome.
After this I think I have even more respect for Ridgewell as a writer and content creator... to do all that for the dying wish of their deceased friend. That's true loyalty, courage and a lot of bravery if I ever did see it. That's the kind of stuff you get a dedicated feature on the main segments of BBC News for.

I know this is a month late, but thank you so much for clearing things up and making this video to help understand about why tom left Eddsworld. As someone who has been a part of the Eddsworld community since 2007, as a original fan witnessing Tord leaving, to Edds unfortunate passing, To Tom leaving i remember being so emotional about it that i told my friends who i also introduce Eddsworld to about it everything that was going on. But as i grew up watching Eddsworld im now 27 back in 2007 i was 11 so Eddsworld means a whole lot to me as he inspired me to be an artist and learning animator.
I never knew that this drama was happening during the time. I first found EddsWorld back during when “The End” was getting released, and I went through and practically binge-watched the entire show in a week, and then went back and continued to watch my favorite episodes over and over again for months, until finally Part 2 came out and ended the show for good. I knew Edd died and they were trying to give his show a proper ending, but I never knew that Tom had to go through so much just to keep the dream alive and give it its proper ending, and still afterwards be attacked online for “selling out” or something stupid along those lines. I think I speak for Evernote of the EddsWorld Community when I say: Thank you Tomska, for all you have done. But hey, it’s not like this ended Tom’s career or anything. He’s still a huge UA-camr and still posts funny skits, even continuing asfmovie to this day. Not to mention as this video gets more views it’ll spread the good word of Tom’s selfless actions and mend the wound that was inflicted on his own legacy & name. So all in all: It’s turning out after all of these years to be a happy ending for Tom after all.
We all need a friend like Tom, the respect and effort he put into EddWorld is inspiring. Crazy to know that it’s been 11 or so years since Edd passed is mental, I remember me and my mate was absolutely heartbroken at school when we found out.
Like Tom said, him and Matt being “money hungry” is the biggest lie ever. Tom and Matt loved Edd very dearly as he was their best friend, as evident by how hard it hit them both. They kept Eddsworld going for their friend and his family.
It genuinely breaks my heart seeing him say what he said in the beginning. I have seen the comments in his videos of people telling him he's basically 'scum' for leaving the show or people just begging him to come back. He's a god damn human with emotions and needs to be treated that way. These "fans" need to look at HIS side and not just thier own. These people are the reason the fandom is falling apart, and I can say it is. I recently left the fandom due to how much toxicity, proshippers and problematic people has circled around it. For the 5 years I've been in it, I've personally never seen it so bad. I hope the fandom starts getting better because it hurts seeing something that pushed me forward in art and animation turn out this way.
I began watching eddsworld back in 2009 and I still remember the day that it was announced that Edd passed away. I was absolutely crushed and cried the whole day, and I felt like nothing was real for weeks after, like everything was a dream. At the time I was only 12 years kid and in an extremely bad place and eddsworld was one of the only slivers of joy in my life at the time. I never participated in the fandom so I didn't know Tom had such a negative reputation. When he announced he was going to continue eddsworld I was so grateful and everything he has done is nothing short of amazing. The effort and sacrifices to carry on his friends memory, while also donating thousands to charity is just incredible, and for all the negative things said to him, I hope he got positive things as well, and I hope he knows how much of a difference he has made in many people's lives for the better. Thank you Tomee Bear, for making this video with so much compassion for everyone who was involved in this. I really love your sentiment at the end to not pay the people who said awful things to him any mind, and to just enjoy and appreciate the effort Tom and the eddsworld team has put into the legacy.

This video made me appreciate Tom so much more. Not only did he make some of the best episodes in the series, but also made so much sacrifices to make eddsworld. The fact that he was struggling with depression and financial trouble makes me think so much more highly of Tom. It was really sad when he left, but he did what was promised. Even when eddsworld came back, he didn’t return out of respect. It makes me so pissed off that people call him greedy when over £80,000 was donated to charity and he got next to nothing out of it. Does that really say greed? Overall, thank you Tom, for continuing Edd’s vision for the show. And thanks for making the show as good as possible. ❤
When Tom left, of course I was sad however, he didn’t leave the show on bad terms, it was quite the opposite. Tom managed to kill two birds with one stone because he made people laugh and made money and used it for charity. Of course Tom, the character is in good hands and on the most recent episode, surf and turf wars part 1 (surf and turf wars part 2 isn’t out yet of the time writing this comment. Also the Xmas episode is more of a short than an episode) I had the most laughs with Tom surprisingly. Now a lot of people don’t like the most recent episodes as Matt is only dipping one toe in at the moment and so the humour is a little dry, but I have high hopes for the future, after all, Matt has known Edd for ages and he knows his type of humour.
I was super young when Edd passed on, and I honestly stopped looking at Eddsworld content afterwards. It hurt knowing someone I'd admired was gone. The audacity of some people to look at Tom's pain and hardships and tear him apart for keeping his friend's memory alive... it's disgusting.
I doubt I could find it now, but I remember a post Tom had made a while back. Someone asked him anonymously if he misses Edd. He said he normally doesn't answer such questions, since he assumes they're from kids who haven't experienced loss yet, and didn't want to publicly lambast them. But since this was anonymous, he'd answer it this time. The answer was along the lines of, yes, he obviously misses his friend. But he was always having to think of Edd only in relation to the show, since he was constantly working on the Legacy eddisodes. This left him feeling like he wasn't even sure who he was missing anymore, since he had to prioritise thinking about cartoon Edd over the real guy. It was pretty hard to read. That sounds awful, and the fan backlash only made things worse. I'm glad he made the legacy episodes, but I'm also glad he left the show. I think he really needed to for his mental health.

Man, blast from the past. I was 10 when Edd passed, and I distinctly remember taking the bus home from school and seeing the video. When I saw that Eddsworld would continue, I probably cried (don’t remember). It’s true when saying that Eddsworld changed, but I never saw it as a negative. It’s probably that I was too young to care enough, but regardless, I loved the episodes that came out afterwards. Overtime I’d return a few times over the years to Eddsworld, but I didn’t keep up, so seeing the complete picture like this is nice after all these years. It’s horrible to see the harassment that Tom received after all his effort and sacrifice… I now have a newfound respect for the guy. That was an excellent video, getting back into Tomska content over the last week as I kinda dropped of him when he had that odd bender a few years ago but seeing him reflect back on all that’s happened and make up with Bing was wonderful. Great to see the hard work and sacrifice he put in get explained since it seems to be so often overlooked.
The Saloonatic and the End were great. They gave the series a nice finish. On a different note, and this will be a paragraph so be warned: I had no idea how much Tom put into Eddsworld before seeing this video. How hard he worked to keep his promise and how he, along with everyone else working on it helped so many other people through those charities. This new information has greatly increased my respect for Tomska, who I used to see as just a guy who makes depression-based jokes and likes guns (opinion formed based on his own channel's contents), but now he's that *and* someone who's put *a lot* of effort into doing good, doing the best possible things and making the best possible decisions. I have serious respect for that.
Im fairly new to the fandom and not gonna lie when i first found out about the bad stuff it made me kinda scared to stay, but i got lucky to meet some nice people that helped me a lot. 17:39 God, as someone who watched Eddsworld before Edd passed, the idea that Tom “abandoned” the show and Edd’s memory is…gut wrenching. I remember when there was no expectation that Eddsworld would continue without its creator, and then the news that there would be a little bit more to close out the series was so exciting (and a little nerve-wracking to be honest, though I personally felt the series was in good hands). It also felt like a big ask of people who had lost their friend, to have to pretend to be that friend in a way. It was never framed as a permanent continuation, but as a final send off to Edd to give the show he put so much into a true conclusion. I’ve actually personally stopped watching after The End because it felt, well, like the ending we were promised and more. Anyway, that in particular hit me. Tom didn’t abandon anything, he put the series to rest.
Tom is a wonderful, talented, amazing, awe-inspiring person who *never* deserved hate or criticism, especially for a little mistake he has repeatedly stated he doesn’t stand by or agree. Now, I wasn’t part of the fandom much, but I love his work and everything he put into it, especially with the grief of his friend dying. He deserves to see this video, 100%
You really see how people are in the darkest times and the fact that Tom not only stood by his promise at the cost of his own finance just shows you who he is as a person. I think its easy to overlook how much grief they were feeling and being constantly reminded of it when trying to recreate Edds work and I don't blame him for the mistakes he did with all the stress happening at the time and I feel he would be first person to admit he made a mistake so honestly I wish UA-cam had more creators like Tom.

Never even knew Tom was a part of Eddsworld, although I have yet to watch any Eddsworld videos outside of fan content or the very occasional short. I initially was nervous about watching this video when I saw the thumbnail, but I felt I needed to watch and keep any emotions I may have in check. (I have seen Tomska’s vids, asdfmovies and otherwise. Huge fan of his knowledge lore rant of the world of Thomas the Tank Engine!) but surprisingly…I absolutely LOVE this video! As someone who might check out Eddsworld soon, and as someone who is making a few vids that I plan on uploading to Newgrounds, (of which Eddsworld seems to have maybe originated or was also available on alongside other platforms?) I feel I needed to watch this, to get context, history, and most importantly, understand where this cartoon is now and understand as much as I can so I can form my own opinions, which, I’ve decided to help spread more joy! And I get that Tom wanted to leave because they was mostly doing this with Edd but since he's gone it was time to wrap up. But the "fans" love the videos so they decided to keep it up. I'm perfectly fine that "The End" was a great conclusion to the end of the original storyline.
Tord kinda came back and was a fun plot twist Villian.
And the running joke of Matt saying "Not The Face!" for most of the Eddisodes videos he'd say that but he didn't actually seen getting hit. Tord hitting him and Matt saying "My Face." Felt like a perfect ending punch line to the joke.

Genuinely can’t believe Tom was freaking 21 when taking control of Eddsworld, as someone who’s currently out that age right now I couldn’t imagine just how stressful that could be .
I'm in my 30s and I still can't imagine how stressful it would be.
I couldn't imagine running production around 21. I was 21 when I begin to produce Minecraft animations and it was fine.
Not to mention he suffered a major loss and had to just, pick up where Edd left off. Imagine how difficult it is to do what you used to after losing someone that close to you, and now imagine doing something that always remind you of him, taking on several roles that should be reserved for more people, severely under-budget, have a frequently volatile community, and in constant fear of messing up and ruining your best friend’s legacy.

I used to feel not so strongly about Tomska. A funny, respectable guy, who made a few mistakes, but was still talented. After watching this video though, and having that context of him spending his own money to keep the memory of his friend alive... I have no words. He's suffered enough.
Honestly, it should also be paired with all the other struggles. Tomska made some extremely bad moves in his career, because of what was within his control as well as what was outside of it. Tom has acknowledged A LOT of those mistakes, and he has shown that he's tried to move past them. He's burned bridges, destroyed friendships, made unbalanced deals where he underpaid people (very early on), and he's acknowledged that, he's made sincere attempts to make up for a lot of those wrongs, and more importantly, to make sure he didn't repeat them. Add that to his ever present mental health struggles, and then add in that in this case, it actually wasn't his fault, yet he was haunted by it nevertheless.
One of the few things he did as earnestly as he could manage at the time, out of the love for friend he lost far too soon, yet it was never enough. I can't imagine how much doubt that created, how much introspection was needed to fully believe that he did what was right. And that he wasn't making another giant fuck up.
Tom is far from perfect, but I can't imagine how unnecessarily worse this made some moments. I hope this video might help even a tad.

It's really sad how your mistakes will paint you as a bad person, when in reality you're trying the best you can to keep your own demons in check, while trying to entertain people at the same time. I actually like it when people make mistakes because it shows who they really are underneath the mask of a celebrity, and for Tom it just shows how challenging and mentally draining it can be to be director and writer, it shows how hard he was trying, it shows that celebrities are humans and can make mistakes... But even if you apologize several times you just can't escape the endless harrassment. In a world where the internet has been around for years things were bound to change, people were bound to become comfortable, too comfortable with the idea of sharing your thoughts.

Something I think some people who don't know Tomska very well need to know, Ed's death and the actions Tom took afterwards haunt Tom mentally. He has a reoccurring nightmare of Ed coming back to life to do nothing except scold Tom for everything, and saying how disappointed he is in Tom. Tom knows more than anyone that at some parts along the way, he fucked up. He doesn't need people spreading false narratives and harrassing him online to drive that point home.

i had the pleasure of meeting both tom and matt in the same day at a convention back in 2018, i was a very cringe teenager but they were still both so brand new and enthusiastic when talking to me, i still hold my interactions with them very close to my heart :) i also must’ve looked pretty guilty about asking tom to sign my eddsworld poster that i had just bought from matt, he was very reassuring and let me know he was happy to do it for me! now that i’m older i realise how much tom actually did for eddsworld that i didn’t even know. i’ll always respect him, he’s such a genuine and beautiful soul and i find myself enjoying his work just as much as the years pass
also adding on, tom even signed my phone and told me how to preserve it which i thought was pretty badass. i looked in the gallery later and found that he had snuck in a few selfies while he had my phone too :D

I watched Eddsworld back in 2009 and kept up with it until after Tom's tenure was done. It's crazy to think in retrospect people are complaining it's not like the old show cause... it just can't be? Edd is gone, and it's not the 2010-era of the internet. Edd had a big influence on me as a person and as a creative, I think it is cool that show remains alive in some way, as per his final wishes. I'm pretty sure even Edd knew it wouldn't be the same.
It still disgusts me to this day that this man tried his absolute best to keep the memory of his best friend alive, as well as give the fans of the show some more out of it, and he still got people online trashing him for it. It's not like the show itself was perfect and resempt from criticism, but the kind of stuff he got flack for, like being a leach to Edd's show and memory, just makes me sick still. This man saved the show when it was pretty much done for, not just for the fans, but for his best friend as well. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't still have Eddsworld today. Just a fact.

I remember back when Edd had just passed away and the video TomSka made about it, he'd talked about struggling with depression before but his best friend dying absolutely crushed him. It was so hard to watch. I couldn't even continue watching the series because it hurt me so much, and Edd was just a large inspiration to me. To this day I couldn't pick it up again. Can't possibly imagine how devestating and hard it was for his close friends. I'm really sorry for Tom in particular, he didn't deserve all this bullshit. I hope he's doing okay now.

Tomska did so much for Eddsworld. It really disappoints me that he constantly gets hate for claims people made like “he’s profiting off his friend who passed away”, or he gets trashed for small, dumb mistakes he made (cough cough “Tord is cancer”). I miss him being a part of the show, but if he’s happy, I’m happy 💙
I'd also say it was owed to the new antidepressant medication he was on. His doctor had warned him not to make any important decisions during this time. Clearly that couldn't work out.

It is incredible to think that now that Tomska is gone, a small part is repeating and saying the same things to Matt in the style of Beyond, and apart, saying that they miss Tom's scripts, when they criticized them more than ever before, it is a cycle, Unfortunately.
Personally I think that Beyond needs to adjust it's pacing and humor, and Matt sometimes has a bit of an attitude problem, but I do agree that Matt has become the fandom's scapegoat.
I feel like they’re underproduced, most of the episodes are just standing around and they feel really awkward. But even then if I dont like the newer episodes, I still love what Matt is doing for the show. And I can say the same for Toms run, I think they’re over produced and too fast paced. But I still love what he did. I usually enjoy both of those eras more though when I just think of them as different shows.

Also I want to pull up something someone said because ppl probably won't understand how Matt made fun of Tomska's ed: "Actively replaced Tom's alcoholism with food in Beyond and the comics. It's pretty common knowledge that Tomska has had horrible issues with his body image and how he perceives himself, and that's just so fucked up to make his body (even if it is the character, it's BASED on Tomska) a joke."
He also said that NONE of Legacy was canon. Aka the era where Tom took over and made the finale for Edd. Just shat on all his hard work. Tldr; Matt is a horrible person.
To be honest I think it's kind of weirdly sweet in a way that Eddsworld has gone from Edd to Tom and then finally to Matt. It kind of show just how much their friendship mattered to them all and it also shows them as a similar trio that they were in the actual cartoons, all putting in their own hardwork to make Eddsworld what it is with their own quirks. All three era's of Eddsworld are different to me and you can clearly tell when one is done by Edd, Tom or Matt. Even if Tom helped with some of Edd's old work.
It's definitely amazing to see just how real the relationship was between them all with Tom and Matt actively putting their own time on the line (and both probably dealing with a LOT of shitty "fans") to make Edd's dream continue to grow.
I knew the behind the scenes was crazy, but this is taking it to another level. This must've took a while to discover all this stuff!
Truthfully, I've been a huge fan of Tom for years and I've kinda taken a mental note of all the things he's said around the topic. A large part of the research is just recalling where he said particular things haha

I find it ironic that the fandom grilled Tom for falsely implying Tord was a "cancer" to the show when said very same fandom flamed and even threatened Tord for simply existing. The internet is seriously bipolar at times.
I 100% agree with this. I think this is because after Tord left the fandom realized what they did and indeed can have a negative impact on someone’s life.

Before I clicked on this video I never even knew there were these false allegations towards Tom. I grew up on the happy loving side of Eddsworld, where we loved each person equally. Tom is such a nice guy and gave Eddsworld his all to keep it going. I hope those people grow up to realize they were mistakenly wrong about him. He really doesn't deserve this 💔

It’s still sad how not only Tom, but Matt’s wife, Matt, Patryk, Paul, and almost everyone in the eddsworld crew is being harassed for this. I respect and support them for what they did and respect that they didn’t wanna be associated with eddsworld anymore! Tom did his best, and now Matt’s having his go. Tom was a good man and tried his best to keep his friend’s world spinning, and, he even added some more story to it! He didn’t HAVE to do it! And he did it anyway! That’s the important part! He’s still doing amazing work to this day! It doesn’t matter WHAT that work is! Personally eddsworld is the reason I even got into art and animations- it’s awesome! But over all, for those of you reading this, leave the cast alone. Don’t just go at them with hate just because you don’t get your way. It’s not your show. And you have no control over what they do. It’s their choice and we just need to respect that. They are trying their best to keep Edds greatest work of art, going. And it’s how u know that they truly respected Edd and his creations. Thank u eddsworld for the amount of fun and laughter you gave to me in my childhood and thank you Edd for your amazing art and ideas. They will forever be known and will go down in history.

I really miss Tord and Tom (even though Tom is still around in his own UA-cam channel, TomSka and always will be) and feel terrible for them. I really agree with you. People in the EW fanbase often think that Tom and Tord hated each other in real life. Sure, they might have gotten into some arguments before, but everyone does that. The EW fandom was something else. First they stalked and Harrased Tord which causes him to leave, and it was from the attention to. They were harassing Matt and his Wife. They force Payl x Patryck to be a thing by forcing their live counter part. They did way to many things to scare their creators.

I was one of the fans of the original Eddsworld. I was so upset by Edd's death that I stopped watching afterwards. I vaguely heard of a continued show but I never went back to it. Hearing about all this aftermath and what happened to a 21 year old Tom really breaks my heart.

I still remember being there when Saloonatics first released. I remember the main thing people disliked was surprisingly the animation. I remember hearing a lot of “it’s super choppy” mixed with the art style being a bit more wild compared to casual Eddsworld stuff. Considering it’s arguably one of the impressive animations on the channel (in my humble opinion) it feels weird in retrospect
I really like the style of Saloonatics + it uses a song from my favorite musician (known as Neil Cicierega Aka. Lemon Demon) for the intro
I think Spider-Verse made experimental animations more popular, especially ones that experiment with the framerate. I think had Saloonatics came out today it would have been praised like it is now. I guess Saloonatics was ahead of its time.

TomSka has always been a funny and cool guy who makes great content. Eddsworld, no matter if it was Edd, Tom or Matt running it, has always been an enjoyable time. I may have been a late viewer but I've watched every eddisode and I love the hard work that everyone involved had put into it. I wish both TomSka and the Eddsworld team well and hope for both sides to have a good future.
I guess it's safe to say I was also a late viewer cuz I like to watch TomSka especially the ASDF movie back when I was a child. One day around 2016-2017, one of the Eddisode 'Fun Dead' passed my recommendation list but my past self just scroll away to other videos for no reason. Then, when I found that video again during the Quarantine, I watched it straight away & my head was like "hey, why not try to watch some old UA-cam videos". After that, I just started to watch more Eddsworld to find more about them & to this very day I still thinking why I didn't click their videos earlier.....

I've met Tom, he's one of the nicest yet most awkward people you'll meet. Me and my friends growing up were all local to Tom living in Lincolnshire city at the time so we all knew the deal with Edd first hand through mutual friends and word of mouth, Tom moved to London to be near his friends around the time Edd's health went south so I never thought there could even be a negative intention when it came to any his work despite all the comments. I've never really been a fan of Eddsworld personally like my friends were but I respect it and what it was. The internet didn't deserve Tom
To this day, TomSka is one of, if not my favourite content creator. I knew about asdfmovie LONG before I knew or even heard about Eddsworld. It was one of the earliest UA-cam videos I remember watching as a kid. It's an inspiration in my digital art style and my tastes in humor with how wacky and off the rails it could be, and its no different in Eddsworld. Tom's character in Eddsworld is my favorite of the bunch as I share his cynicism as well as my persona having black eyes too. His character brings so much smiles and laughs to my face as well as being able to bounce off of the other characters. I have only the highest and utmost admiration for Tom both as a person, character and content creator, and to see the toxicity he had endured while spearheading the show only strengthens my respect for him.
For me, personally, 10:08 hits the hardest. I've been a fan of Tom's skits and Asdfmovie way, WAAYYY before I ever heard of Eddsworld. I only heard of Eddsworld 2 years ago, and was immediately saddened by the death of Edd Gould. His show was also hilarious and enjoyable, and the old and new eddisodes were indifferent to that opinion. This video was definitely a video I was looking for, as I never really saw what happened to Tomska. Here's to a hope that he bears a happier life now.
he posted a vlog on his side channel recently and he says in it that the dark cloud has passed, which is wonderful :) he had a vlog series I watched religiously called "last week" for 3 years starting back in 2016 when he was a clinically depressed alcoholic, stressing over declining views, losing brand deals, and funding crash zoom lmao. now he's financially killin it again, chillin with his GF and their pups, and making whatever videos he wants to make with two of his best friends. Kinda inspirational really ahaha
He's got a series called Last Month (a sequel to his "Last Week" series from a few years ago) that I'd recommend over on Tomska and Friends! He talks a lot about his mental health and how he's doing, and even recently about how people's comments on eddsworld specifically make him feel now vs how they used to affect him. He's doing a lot lot better. (And whilst his health/wellbeing is obviously much more important than his content, the videos he/his colleagues make over at Tomska and Friends are always great too!)
I watched a few videos from Tomska, and seeing Tom having fun, laughing, going to conventions with his friends, or just doing something he likes is heartwarming
I've been a fan of Eddsworld ever since its early years. I remember thinking episodes like "Spares" and "25ft Under The Seat" were new, and a big evolution for the Eddisodes. I was there through it all, and still am. The change in direction when Tom took over was unavoidable. Even if he tried to stay 100% true to Eddsworld's original feel, it's impossible to do that without Edd himself. But he carried on that show in a way that could only be described by its actual title: a legacy. I am thankful that he continued the series and founded a new generation of Eddheads.
Although I'll admit, the focus on his character during The End Parts 1 & 2 did feel a bit funky, mostly because even though I understood it was all for the story, there would be those that would only focus on that fact and claim he was self-inserting too heavily, and it's hard to watch that episode without hearing those judgements in the back of your head. This video does a great job at laying everything out in a way that explains the usual discrepancies during the Tom era.

wow, even though I'm Eddsworld fan only from 2018, i respected Tom even since that time. He is really did a great job. But I must add that Matt is also good, I am really respect them both. Also I'm gonna miss TomSka. :(

For some reason, i only watched TomSka when i was a kid for ASDFmovie and way back then i didn't know who Eddsworld is until 2020... but i felt bad how TomSka decided to move on to go into his separate work after he got harassed by hates, but for some reason Eddsworld was his original home, original piece of work that Edd brought him in and even though the show itself is not the same without TomSka, the real Edd or the real Tord involving with the creation... i'm glad how Matt still keeps the show spinning with the newer fans until what would happen to the show in the future, i would be surprised if Matt never retires and keeps Eddsworld spinning until he dies or few of his friends die.
Same experience, in fact asdf was one of my first introductions to UA-cam! I've watched Tom's content for a while so I can't believe I never got the memo about Eddsworld, I knew that of it's existence but not what it was about.
Once my younger sister showed me what Eddsworld was around a year or two I recognized Tomska and had no idea he was a part of this charming webshow. God I wish I learned about it sooner because it perfectly encapsulates the type of humour I find funny and Edd (both character and irl person) was extremely relatable to me. I've been dreaming of making animated adventures of me and my friends for a while and it just baffles me that I hadn't watched Eddsworld earlier.
Then I found out about Edd's passing, Tord and Tom's harassment from "fans", the extreme shipping and other awful predicaments (JSL being one of them).. It just breaks my heart that something that brought me so much nostalgia and comfort (despite only knowing it for a year or so) had such a tragic history.
I respect all that Matt Hargreaves and Christopher Bingham as well as the whole crew behind Eddsworld Beyond have done for Edd's legacy. It's nice these animated adventures never faded away but I can't help but feel awful about how many aspects related to it negatively affected it's own creators
Man, we're pretty much in the same boat. The ASDF movie was the first watched video that introduced me to TomSka as a kid and I didn't know much about Eddsworld till 2020 started to kicking people's butt. As for me, I started to watch some old UA-cam videos out of boredom cuz the quarantine and so I found Eddsworld then watch more about them to realize why I didn't click their videos earlier and I still thinking about it to this very day
It's extremely depressing how much people with bad intentions get away with less criticism or consequences than those with good intentions.
Tom seems like he always tries his best and deserved better for this effort than many gave him.
I feel bad for Tom, the fact that these toxic fans were so rude and disrespectful. I’m so glad that Tom is recovering from that, he did a lot of things to make the Eddsworld fandom alive, now he is focusing on his own pace and moving on. i really wanna thank eddsworld as a whole for legitimately making me the person i am today. eddsworld really inspired me to start getting into drawing, and if tom didn’t put the time and dedication in making those episodes, i don’t know what i’d be. maybe i’d be happier, but honestly if i had to redo this, i’d probably do it again because it’s really just such a big thing in my life. :)

Like many in the comments, I had no idea about the rumors that Tom did anything maliciously. I was a fan in 2012, saw how much Edd meant to him, and thought it was so sweet that he wanted to continue Eddsworld. I had no idea that was only the tip of the iceberg. Tomska's contributions to his friend's legacy is beautiful and selfless.

i have to be honest, i teared up really hard putting myself in toms shoes hearing "this isnt how edd would make it" or "this is tomsworld" because that was one of his closest friends that he lost to cancer years prior and thats such a reprehensible thing to say. i cant possibly imagine saying that to tom after he put everything into this the way he did. its disgusting and i do not blame him for leaving when he did because i wouldnt be able to handle it either, thats such a painful scenario to be in.

thanks for clearing everything up about this situation. i was 13 when Eddsword Legacy ended, and as I kid i didnt understand why Tom had left. But now that I’m turning 21 next month, i couldn’t imagine the amount of stress he was in. Props to him for sticking it out and sacrificing so much for Edd, his family, and the fandom.

I've been a fan of Eddsworld since 2010. I was only 13 when the news of Edd passing away was heard. I feel like i can say Tom never did nothing anything wrong. i can also say i was never mad that it took 4 years for Eddsworld Legacy to finish. if anything, it extended the lifespan of the series. I know Tom's management wasn't the best. but the man doesn't deserved to be nailed to a cross for it. Tom had big shoes to fill, and for what he did. He did an astronomical job. no one else wouldnt do a better job as Tom did.

It's always upsetting when fans confuse characters with real people. Sometimes fanbases can really ruin shows with ships and unwanted criticisms. I honestly feel bad for Tom since he didn't really know what to do in this situation. He just wanted to help continue his friend's legacy.

This is a brilliant video that brings to light a lot of things, good and bad, that I think a lot of fans aren't aware of. You do a great job not villainising anyone while still explaining where things have gone wrong. This is definitely a video the fandom needs.
Wow, firstly thank you for making this video. When Edd passed away I didn’t expect to see anymore of the series, and when I did learn about it, it was from a lot of those negative sides on how Tom was ruining it and being greedy and causing drama, and as a result I never ended up seeing any Eddsworld legacy episodes, I didn’t go off Tom completely and would watch him occasionally, but I always felt sad that he had apparently done all of those things.
Learning now how he didn’t do those things, and actually donated the earnings to charity and put himself out of pocket to ensure it all came through, I feel so let down by some of the community for spreading out that misinformation and hate campaign.
I will be watching it through many times now to ensure I do my part to help support the effort that went into it, and to provide even a tiny amount of revenue for the charities they support.

Tom is a genuinely cool dude who even in the early years of youtube never let the size of his channel or his success separate him from collaborating with people. In fact Edd, and the whole gang always seemed super supportive of online creatives, even taking the time to comment on my old cringy songs about them. I had no idea he went through so much to give the series the send off it deserved for his friend and hearing this story just gave me a whole new layer of respect for the guy.

Tomska was one of my favorite youtubers back in the day! When I discovered Eddsworld, Edd was still alive but only for a year. It was devastating loosing Edd as a fan, and seeing how Tom was trying desperately to try and keep promises while still processing the loss of a friend was wild. I stopped keeping up with the channel after that. But always glad to see people sharing the love/respect for the channel!
EddsWorld made me start making so much art almost a decade ago and then get more improved as the years passed by.
I’m not into EddsWorld anymore, but when I saw a post about it, I smile remembering all the episodes and making art of it and just my own genres of it or just making original stuff.
Eddsworld is awesome.
After this I think I have even more respect for Ridgewell as a writer and content creator... to do all that for the dying wish of their deceased friend. That's true loyalty, courage and a lot of bravery if I ever did see it. That's the kind of stuff you get a dedicated feature on the main segments of BBC News for.

I know this is a month late, but thank you so much for clearing things up and making this video to help understand about why tom left Eddsworld. As someone who has been a part of the Eddsworld community since 2007, as a original fan witnessing Tord leaving, to Edds unfortunate passing, To Tom leaving i remember being so emotional about it that i told my friends who i also introduce Eddsworld to about it everything that was going on. But as i grew up watching Eddsworld im now 27 back in 2007 i was 11 so Eddsworld means a whole lot to me as he inspired me to be an artist and learning animator.
I never knew that this drama was happening during the time. I first found EddsWorld back during when “The End” was getting released, and I went through and practically binge-watched the entire show in a week, and then went back and continued to watch my favorite episodes over and over again for months, until finally Part 2 came out and ended the show for good. I knew Edd died and they were trying to give his show a proper ending, but I never knew that Tom had to go through so much just to keep the dream alive and give it its proper ending, and still afterwards be attacked online for “selling out” or something stupid along those lines. I think I speak for Evernote of the EddsWorld Community when I say: Thank you Tomska, for all you have done. But hey, it’s not like this ended Tom’s career or anything. He’s still a huge UA-camr and still posts funny skits, even continuing asfmovie to this day. Not to mention as this video gets more views it’ll spread the good word of Tom’s selfless actions and mend the wound that was inflicted on his own legacy & name. So all in all: It’s turning out after all of these years to be a happy ending for Tom after all.
I found eddsworld and Tomska at the same time by when I was around 5-6, I always knew Tord wasn't like that. I still love eddsworld!

We all need a friend like Tom, the respect and effort he put into EddWorld is inspiring. Crazy to know that it’s been 11 or so years since Edd passed is mental, I remember me and my mate was absolutely heartbroken at school when we found out.
Like Tom said, him and Matt being “money hungry” is the biggest lie ever. Tom and Matt loved Edd very dearly as he was their best friend, as evident by how hard it hit them both. They kept Eddsworld going for their friend and his family.

It genuinely breaks my heart seeing him say what he said in the beginning. I have seen the comments in his videos of people telling him he's basically 'scum' for leaving the show or people just begging him to come back. He's a god damn human with emotions and needs to be treated that way. These "fans" need to look at HIS side and not just thier own. These people are the reason the fandom is falling apart, and I can say it is. I recently left the fandom due to how much toxicity, proshippers and problematic people has circled around it. For the 5 years I've been in it, I've personally never seen it so bad. I hope the fandom starts getting better because it hurts seeing something that pushed me forward in art and animation turn out this way.
I began watching eddsworld back in 2009 and I still remember the day that it was announced that Edd passed away. I was absolutely crushed and cried the whole day, and I felt like nothing was real for weeks after, like everything was a dream. At the time I was only 12 years kid and in an extremely bad place and eddsworld was one of the only slivers of joy in my life at the time.
I never participated in the fandom so I didn't know Tom had such a negative reputation. When he announced he was going to continue eddsworld I was so grateful and everything he has done is nothing short of amazing. The effort and sacrifices to carry on his friends memory, while also donating thousands to charity is just incredible, and for all the negative things said to him, I hope he got positive things as well, and I hope he knows how much of a difference he has made in many people's lives for the better.
Thank you Tomee Bear, for making this video with so much compassion for everyone who was involved in this. I really love your sentiment at the end to not pay the people who said awful things to him any mind, and to just enjoy and appreciate the effort Tom and the eddsworld team has put into the legacy.

This video made me appreciate Tom so much more. Not only did he make some of the best episodes in the series, but also made so much sacrifices to make eddsworld.
The fact that he was struggling with depression and financial trouble makes me think so much more highly of Tom.
It was really sad when he left, but he did what was promised. Even when eddsworld came back, he didn’t return out of respect.
It makes me so pissed off that people call him greedy when over £80,000 was donated to charity and he got next to nothing out of it. Does that really say greed?
Overall, thank you Tom, for continuing Edd’s vision for the show. And thanks for making the show as good as possible.

When Tom left, of course I was sad however, he didn’t leave the show on bad terms, it was quite the opposite. Tom managed to kill two birds with one stone because he made people laugh and made money and used it for charity. Of course Tom, the character is in good hands and on the most recent episode, surf and turf wars part 1 (surf and turf wars part 2 isn’t out yet of the time writing this comment. Also the Xmas episode is more of a short than an episode) I had the most laughs with Tom surprisingly. Now a lot of people don’t like the most recent episodes as Matt is only dipping one toe in at the moment and so the humour is a little dry, but I have high hopes for the future, after all, Matt has known Edd for ages and he knows his type of humour.
I was super young when Edd passed on, and I honestly stopped looking at Eddsworld content afterwards. It hurt knowing someone I'd admired was gone. The audacity of some people to look at Tom's pain and hardships and tear him apart for keeping his friend's memory alive... it's disgusting.

I doubt I could find it now, but I remember a post Tom had made a while back. Someone asked him anonymously if he misses Edd. He said he normally doesn't answer such questions, since he assumes they're from kids who haven't experienced loss yet, and didn't want to publicly lambast them. But since this was anonymous, he'd answer it this time.
The answer was along the lines of, yes, he obviously misses his friend. But he was always having to think of Edd only in relation to the show, since he was constantly working on the Legacy eddisodes. This left him feeling like he wasn't even sure who he was missing anymore, since he had to prioritise thinking about cartoon Edd over the real guy.
It was pretty hard to read. That sounds awful, and the fan backlash only made things worse. I'm glad he made the legacy episodes, but I'm also glad he left the show. I think he really needed to for his mental health.

Man, blast from the past. I was 10 when Edd passed, and I distinctly remember taking the bus home from school and seeing the video. When I saw that Eddsworld would continue, I probably cried (don’t remember). It’s true when saying that Eddsworld changed, but I never saw it as a negative. It’s probably that I was too young to care enough, but regardless, I loved the episodes that came out afterwards. Overtime I’d return a few times over the years to Eddsworld, but I didn’t keep up, so seeing the complete picture like this is nice after all these years. It’s horrible to see the harassment that Tom received after all his effort and sacrifice… I now have a newfound respect for the guy. Thank you for exposing these truths, and for bringing me back to Eddsworld after all these years (:
That was an excellent video, getting back into Tomska content over the last week as I kinda dropped of him when he had that odd bender a few years ago but seeing him reflect back on all that’s happened and make up with Bing was wonderful. Great to see the hard work and sacrifice he put in get explained since it seems to be so often overlooked.
The Saloonatic and the End were great. They gave the series a nice finish.
On a different note, and this will be a paragraph so be warned:
I had no idea how much Tom put into Eddsworld before seeing this video. How hard he worked to keep his promise and how he, along with everyone else working on it helped so many other people through those charities.
This new information has greatly increased my respect for Tomska, who I used to see as just a guy who makes depression-based jokes and likes guns (opinion formed based on his own channel's contents), but now he's that *and* someone who's put *a lot* of effort into doing good, doing the best possible things and making the best possible decisions.
I have serious respect for that.
Im fairly new to the fandom and not gonna lie when i first found out about the bad stuff it made me kinda scared to stay, but i got lucky to meet some nice people that helped me a lot. Still hurt a bit to remember the toxic part of the fandom but its always good to focus on the good bits of it. Some of you guys are amazing ♡
In any video Tomska makes talking about his suicidal thoughts and depression Edd is always mentioned. Thats pretty much where Tomska started downspiraling, its just.. really sad.

You know what. Thank you for this video. Im used to videos that talk about problems or drama in a popular community to be, well, hate mongering. Your video, even though it was about trouble in the past of Edd'sworld, left me with a feeling of closure, and appreciation for the love and hard, self giving work that went into the show's creation after Ed's passing. So as a long time fan who did not know how to feel about the show continuing after Edd's passing, thank you for your kind words and encouragement to be kind and not hateful. God Bless you.
17:39 God, as someone who watched Eddsworld before Edd passed, the idea that Tom “abandoned” the show and Edd’s memory is…gut wrenching. I remember when there was no expectation that Eddsworld would continue without its creator, and then the news that there would be a little bit more to close out the series was so exciting (and a little nerve-wracking to be honest, though I personally felt the series was in good hands). It also felt like a big ask of people who had lost their friend, to have to pretend to be that friend in a way. It was never framed as a permanent continuation, but as a final send off to Edd to give the show he put so much into a true conclusion. I’ve actually personally stopped watching after The End because it felt, well, like the ending we were promised and more.
Anyway, that in particular hit me. Tom didn’t abandon anything, he put the series to rest.
Tom is a wonderful, talented, amazing, awe-inspiring person who *never* deserved hate or criticism, especially for a little mistake he has repeatedly stated he doesn’t stand by or agree. Now, I wasn’t part of the fandom much, but I love his work and everything he put into it, especially with the grief of his friend dying.
He deserves to see this video, 100%
You really see how people are in the darkest times and the fact that Tom not only stood by his promise at the cost of his own finance just shows you who he is as a person. I think its easy to overlook how much grief they were feeling and being constantly reminded of it when trying to recreate Edds work and I don't blame him for the mistakes he did with all the stress happening at the time and I feel he would be first person to admit he made a mistake so honestly I wish UA-cam had more creators like Tom.
The fandom did these guys dirty…none of them deserve this. I wish I could find tord and see how he’s doing now but because of the fandom he’s off the internet forever.

Never even knew Tom was a part of Eddsworld, although I have yet to watch any Eddsworld videos outside of fan content or the very occasional short. I initially was nervous about watching this video when I saw the thumbnail, but I felt I needed to watch and keep any emotions I may have in check. (I have seen Tomska’s vids, asdfmovies and otherwise. Huge fan of his knowledge lore rant of the world of Thomas the Tank Engine!) but surprisingly…I absolutely LOVE this video! As someone who might check out Eddsworld soon, and as someone who is making a few vids that I plan on uploading to Newgrounds, (of which Eddsworld seems to have maybe originated or was also available on alongside other platforms?) I feel I needed to watch this, to get context, history, and most importantly, understand where this cartoon is now and understand as much as I can so I can form my own opinions, which, I’ve decided to help spread more joy! And maybe watch a few Eddsworld vids to give me inspiration (not imitation) for my own cartoons and writing style!
