Wow, this video is superior to 99.9% of such videos on YT. I liked the fact that you kept repeating the bolt sizes and quantities. Excellent, 10/10. Clear video and perfect lighting.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to tackle this job but after watching this video I decided to go ahead and do it. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation of every step in the process. This saved me $200 to $300 since I was able to do it myself. Thanks!
I am a 60 year old woman. My car is a Lexus Rx. Starter replacement complete, two hours, fifteen minutes, start to finish (including testing old and new starter). Thank you so much! This was actually a very fun project, and one of the easiest parts to replace on a Lexus/Toyota, V6! Couple of recommendations: 1) Before beginning the job, remove the plastic, (silver) engine protector/cover that is sitting on top of the engine. This will give you more room to work with. The cover is secured by three hex bolts, and clips that attach to fuel rail. After you remove bolts, you can pull cover, and clips pop off rail. 2) The air box is a bear to work with. Make sure the air box, all it's components, and filter are completely secured in place, before putting the battery back in the engine bay.
now that i successfully replaced my starter motor, i want to say... thank you for this awesome video! i have a 2006 sienna V6, and everything in the video was spot on
Dear Sir; please allow my family and I to thank you for this absolutely perfect how to video, simply put you're an excellent narrator thus showing the ability to teach, thank you very much
Excellent video, especially eliminating 15 minutes of unscrewing and screwing bolts out/in from their locations! You captured the essential steps very effectively. My hats off to you!
Thanks for this video!!! It worked great. Took me about 2 hours start to finish including going to get the part and having them test my old one. You are a life and money saver!!!
Excellent. Thanks for taking the time to do this. FYI BTW, when I try to start my 1999 RX 300 V6, when I turn the ignition key, nothing happens. If I try again or several more times, the engine starts. I am told that this is a classic case of starter failure. Will be replacing the starter. UPDATE: Took the leap. Bought a new starter and followed the instructions. My 1999 Rx300 was a little different, and gratefully a little easier. The biggest problem that took almost as much time to figure out as removing the battery and air box was disconnecting the small connector. I could not see the connection because I could not orientate the old starter enough. After a while I finally got a small screw driver inserted into the back of the old starter connection. Then the plug just popped out. Hope that help someone else. Thanks
This is the first time I've worked on my 2002 Lexus ES300 which I purchased in May 2016. Your video was very straight forward. Thanks to you, I saved approximately $225.00 and it took me less than one hour from start to finish.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. my starter went out in front of the station where I got my oil change and I was stressing because my job is 30 mins away and I really need my car. You made it so easy to follow instructions for a newbie like me. You really saved me thank you so much for this
Just finished changing the starter on a 2005 Lexus ES330 following your video. Very straight forward. Finished it in an hour and a half. Thank you 🙏 for making this video. Much appreciated.
Awesome Video. Today my 06 Toyota Sienna needed the starter replaced. I checked your video, got the general idea; purchased the starter at 5:30pm; finished replacing starter by 8:00 pm. Thanks very much!!!
+MultiMM68 Thanks, glad you got it done. Procedure is pretty straight forward. There's just a lot of the airbox stuff that have to come off to access the starter. The 06 Sienna is the same engine as my 05 ES330.
I liked that you encourage and educate people to rebuild the starter by replacing couple of cheap parts, rather than taking sponsorship from a parts retailer and encourage people to buy a new starter kit instead.
No mess no fuss. Thank you for this video it was all I needed and you were right to the point. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish if wondering. I don’t even change my own oil anymore to give you a level and of my knowledge. Thank you
Wow man, great video! I NEVER comment on UA-cam videos, but you put 99.9% of DIY videos to shame. If only everyone made videos of this quality. Well done!
I've just replaced mine in 2005 ES330. It couldn't be easier after watching your video. Had there not been this video I'd never event thought about doing it myself.
One of, if not the best, DIY videos on car repair. You took an operation that probably takes several hours and condensed it into 20 plus minutes, one of my pet peeves with these DIY videos is the presenter talking incessantly about stuff that isn’t necessary to the process. I think they’re taking advantage of their 15 minutes of fame.
Really good video.Step by step visual and verbal communication with only the things that count-getting to completion!! Hope to watch more of your videos!!
All the other comments already say everything I would, but I have to add my own THANK YOU!! Awesome video! Replaced the starter on my RX330 in about an hour. Funny thing is I had the car towed to a Firestone shop and was going to have them do it, but after watching your video, I tackled it myself, probably saving a couple hundred bucks on the labor. I’m now a subscriber and hope to find another one of your great videos for my next repair. Thanks again man!!
Thank You! Your videos with the timing chain, throttle Body Cleaning and this one has made my life so much better this week. I just set my tablet on the car and get to work.
Starter went out tonight and with this video I was able to remove the bad starter and install a new one in a couple of hours. Thanks so much for this video!
your straight forward, step by step, listing bolt sizes as you go, trimming out unneeded time, are the best. You could teach a lot of UA-camrs how to make a video. you saved me tons of time and costs. I liked and subscribed just hoping you get some money. Well done!
Excellent straightforward instruction. I noted that you went to the battery Neg [earth] terminal first, a good safety rule. That told me that you know what you are doing.
Very helpful video. Straight to the point. Step by step with accurate tools needed mentioned for each step. I was about to spend $150 in labor until I watched this video. Thanks dude
This wasn’t helpful with the job in doing, it this was a well done video. I like how you weren’t manhandling the components of the act. Very slow and easy. Keep it.
Thank you! Used your video step-by-step to replace my starter on my 2004 RX330. I don't know anything about cars, other than what I watch on UA-cam and your video was great! Everyone told me I had a bad starter which was not engaging the fly wheel (one dood said to get under and hit it with a hammer, and no need to replace it) and after replacing it, my car started, so I guess they were right.
MrTighteyWhiteys Your welcome, I'm glad my video helped. Hitting the starter with a hammer is a temporary solution to slightly move the (worn) contacts enough to engage the starter again. Eventually the starter will completely wear down (leaving you stranded) and would have to be rebuilt.
Great video. Idk what the heck is thumbs down are for. Quick to the point instructions. Love it. I hate videos where they talk so much and don't get to the point.
Thanks for posting this quick, yet thorough and precise video. Allowed me to breeze through changing my starter (in my workplace parking lot no less!).
Thank you for a top notch video. Well done sir. My 2000 Lexus RX300 was easier than this one by far. I was able to leave my battery in place (I did disconnect the Posi+ive cable). Only 1 finger sized hose and 2 electric plugs on top of the air box to undo besides the big In & Out tubes. Same 3 bolts shown holding air box. No brackets or braces to undo and especially no cowl looking thing on the front end to undo. I think it was 7mm socket to open the panel to replace the terminal connectors and plunger do-hickey thing-a-ma-Bob in the starter. The Ball Bearing stayed in place for me but be sure not to lose it! Free Tip: Loosen up the terminal connector nuts to the end but not off and separate the components so everything is still attached in the right order so you can see how they need to go back together. Now take a picture (or 2 or 3). Reference the picture after you forgot how it all went back together. You'll thank me later, I did. All in all much easier than I thought and done well inside an hour even taking time to clean the 19 years of crude away from that area. I used 2 6 inch extensions for the 3, 10mm air box nuts at the bottom. Starter bolts - 14mm (12mm for terminals) Positive Battery Terminal was 10mm A bench vice would have been nice but I did everything right there on the driveway without any such tool. Nice not worrying if the car is going to start or not. Well worth $13.48 (With free Prime Sunday delivery included) Victory Lap ND-34-LS-SOL Starter Solenoid Repair Kit. Started out every once in awhile the car would just go click and it would take several key turns to get it to crank. The problem grew worse (especially on cold days), eventually taking 20+ "key bumps" to get it to crank. Replaced the terminals & plunger and it starts like new. First time, every time!
Thanks again for this great video. You helped me so much on my spark plugs and valve cover and once again with this starter. Keep them coming and thanks for the detail work.
great video thanks, mine kept spinning without engaging the flywheel took it to autozone they tested it and said it works even the solenoid worked when they tested it. Eventually decided to buy a new one after failing to make the old one work and new one did the job.
Excellent video, I am thinking my starter is bad on my 2011 Lexus RX350. Instrument cluster was on, stepped on brake to start, pushed start button everything went dead. Checked battery voltage 12.5 volts. 2.5 volts at fuse box, no breaks in fuses.

Hi speedkar99. Thanks for this video, it gave me the confidence to change my starter motor. After installing it and starting to put everything back together, I saw a hose with a broken plastic connection. I've looked and looked but can't find where it connects to. Any chance I could send you a picture to see if you know where it goes? Thanks.
No not at all actually, i did hear about this cars transmission lagging in traffic. I changed the ATF at 50k and now its at 65k and I can barely feel this car shift haha.
I'm not talking about the shift quality, I'm asking about the throttle lag and the hesitation to downshift in stop and go traffic. Its the way its programmed. On my ES330 (same powertrain as your Camry SE) the lag is very apparent and annoying, and since they're the same car mechanically I would expect that on the Camry as well.
Thanks for the video! I see you were working with a lexus es, is there any way you can make a video on how to replace the subwoofer in an 02' es300? I've looked everywhere online and there are no solutions. BTW-I took your advice on cleaning the throttle body too, and after starting the car the RPMs were a little high- but after a couple of drives to the gas station, they seemed to have gone back to normal!

You should have an online academy!

Thanks for this video!!! It worked great. Took me about 2 hours start to finish including going to get the part and having them test my old one. You are a life and money saver!!!

Excellent video. No fluff, no distractions. I will still get the work done by a mechanic but I appreciate the work that needs to go in. Thank you!
