    Wasn't expecting the twist of the OW Detroit shoutout at the end! I've ridden with MANY communities and the Detroit crew still stands as my favorite group of people to ride with, awesome community. Sweet to see you're enjoying riding and got to get in on a group ride so early on, for me that's one of the best parts of Onewheeling for sure. You should 100% check out the Dodge Park and Riverbends sometime. Lots of nice paved paths but also some of my personal favorite trails around.

    I had the same issue you did with simple stop, in that it was trying to take off on me. I figured it out but it's counter intuitive. Basically you have to let your tail down very gently and slowly. The manual claims the board will let you down slowly, but it's really more having to keep your balance and slowly place the tail down yourself.
    But shutting it off and getting used to heellift is ideal, especially if you plan to get the XR, which doesn't have simple stop as an option at all.
    I have 2 months ridden and 150+ miles a 40+ day streak at the moment. Hell of a learning curve for me, but it feels like I gradually worked into it, as long as I identify and work on known weaknesses.

    Great video! Nice production value!
    I recently inherited a plus and have been loving every second I spend on it. Strongly considering a pint and forcing My fiancée, who says just looking at it makes her wrist feel like it's shattering, onto it. Truth be told I think after seeing my progress and enthusiasm in less than a month of riding, she's become intrigued enough to maybe fall for it.
    Bottom line, buy one. Wear protective gear, at least a helmet. If you take the time to learn about the functions and mechanics of the board as well as some of the theory/technique before stepping foot on it and take it nice and easy past your first 25 or so miles, as it starts to really click and your leg muscles start to get used to it, you'll never want to get off the thing.

    I just got my first onewheel 2 weeks ago. I got an XR because I'm not super experienced with board sports and they say the wider wheel is more stable plus I live where if I turn one way I have city and if I go the other way for a mile or so its way more rural so figured the extra range would be good. The only thing that really had me debating between the 2 models was that the pint had simple stop and the XR doesn't so it was nice to hear you say that simple stop is garbage. Sadly I'm still not super comfortable with the heel lift but I'm getting better at it. The foot fatigue though.. I'm hoping that gets better soon.

    Biggest thing to do when you get your xr, and you will, keep the pint (if possible, for friends) change the tire. The tire has a very square profile. Great for going on a straight line, but get a Hoosier or Burris treaded. It's rounder profile makes so carves a lot of fun. The treaded tire will allow you to use it in rain or snow. Just get it badgered first. I'm at about the same mileage as you, but I've got both a pint (for my daughter) and the xr.

    • @DaveSy

    I've been eyeing this for a little over a year now. Everytime i go to order one (the ultimate bundle they offer which, after taxes is like almsot $1400), I keep backing out. But everytime I come to UA-cam I discover another reviewer who just makes me beleive it would earn its money in no time. When my job eventually has us go back to the office I'd lvie to far to sue this as a commuter, so it would e purely for recreational purposes to have fun or when I feel stressed and need to relax. I'm trying to justify the price so much. Never been into any kind of board sports before, so I think I'm just worried I won't like it or won't be able to get the hang of it and injure myself. But great video man!!! Makes it seem like it WOULD be a good investment...

    Great vid man. I have about 100km in 3 weeks. I am not a board sports man, lots of skiing though. I am 48 and learned on my own with lots of youtube, I mostly ride on grass and dirt, I have crashed more than a few times on grass going slow. I have never felt push back or had it at top speed. I am going to take your advise and turn off simple stop, I would agree it doesn't work great. I have just done the hop off from day one.

    • @DaveSy
      @DaveSy  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yeah with grass and dirt trails being less predictable I’d imagine you’d crash more often. I’ve only nose dove on soft grass going pretty slow, and one time on pavement where the board started to tilt almost to the point of a nose dive but I corrected quick enough. I’ve been meaning to get out on tougher trails, but have been so content gliding between mostly smooth roads, fairly non-bumpy, but firm grass fields, and gravel. My current top speed is 16.6mph/~27km and I’ve felt decent pushback as soon as 14mph. The heel method is so nice if you don’t feel like you’re in a spot to hop off.

    600 miles on my pint fully upgraded with an X2R fender for 18-23 miles of range , and a nice kush nug high on the back. I prefer the fun nimble carve of a pint vs an XR. Also the trick to liking simple stop is to do the life heel motion even when it's on and lean back it will balance out and let you get off smoothly or cut out the motor so 2 ways to stop. Only real reason to turn it off is to go backwards which just feels weird to me idk. Maybe one day I will get the hang of it

Right now, I really like carving on the pavement and doing little lines on the terrain off the sidewalk. Bumpier terrain is really fun too. I think the only place that I can really see myself nosediving is going down hills because that's the only time I really hit pushback, not sure if you have hills where you live, but keep that in mind! `

    I dropped my PSI to 18 lbs as I am only 150 psi, seems to help with being less squirrely. Out of the box it was 21 psi, I think the recommended is 17-20psi

      I’ll def keep that in mind - I’ve gotten super used to it the way it was out of the box though. Even bumpy grass and gravel has ridden nicely. One day I could picture getting an XR with a treaded, lower PSI tire!

    Nice video. I've got an XR, but my understanding of Simple Stop is that you are required to start rolling backwards for it to work. If you're just slowing down to a stop and balancing, then Simple Stop wont ever engage. From what I saw in the video, you're trying to step off before Simple Stop has time to work. I don't have the feature on my XR, so I just do quick step off like you did (which results in 1/4 second of wheel spinning backwards).

    • @DaveSy
      @DaveSy  3 роки тому

      Thanks Patrick, yeah the sweet spot of when it engages seems odd. Does the XR have the ‘heel up’ method? That’s honestly been the most predictable and smooth way to dismount every time.

    • @MrPatCummins
      @MrPatCummins 3 роки тому +1

      @@DaveSy Not sure why I was commenting from my other account, but this account at least has a few Onewheel videos (not as great as your video edit skills of course lol). Yes, the XR has the front sensor method where you lift your heel. I use that sometimes, but I actually have better luck just doing the quick stop method and letting the tire peel out for a second. If I do the heel up method, I typically turn my front foot so my toe is pointed almost straight forward, and then rock my front foot over the front lip of the board so I'm not engaging either of the sensors. I wear a size 13 shoe, so I've had the issue of still engaging both sensors when I only lift my heel. I look forward to more Onewheel content from you!

      Thanks! I’m still loving it after over 400 miles. Yes, I just updated my software twice in the past couple months. Using it right now with friends actually lol

    🌎 I have owned 3. First one 4 years ago a Chinese Dan Dan. It listed for 9$ I got a new one on eBay for 6$ sold it for 5$ after about 100 miles. It nose dived twice. First time I thought it was me, the second time wasn’t me, it just shut off. I Road Rashed elbows badly both times. Found out they stop at 8 mph in beginner mode. You could really get killed, WTF I bought a real OW V1 hey I live in Santa Cruz the headquarters . I liked it but I felt I had allot of $ into it and the X-R came out so I cashed out after about 200 miles. So a couple years go by and the price increased, I saw the Pint and I am loving it in every way. I like the feeling of it’s agility, sure it pushes back at 12/13 mph and short battery. But I like riding at 12 mph or less and have got 10 miles riding at 8 mph with hills. I just carve, and I know the bigger one is stabler off-road.. but just the size of the Pint is nice to throw around a lb or so lighter feels like a sports car to a limo. Keep Rockin I give it to the Pint as the most fun until they can lightened up the XR I won’t consider it an alternative. ...I suppose this might be of interest to older bunch, I m 70 in August .still downhill skateboarding regularly as well. Great to cross train, as different as they are.

    • @DaveSy
      @DaveSy  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed! Been loving the Pint in Pacific mode, but thinking about trying skyline to see if it'll delay the pushback until 14-15 perhaps. Guess I'm glad I missed the earlier generations haha. I think the Pint has been damn good off-road for the time being, and yes the 22 lbs vs. 27 on the XR is significant for sure.
