One of my OCs is a human that is adopted at a young age by fish Faunus in Menagerie. She washed ashore in Menagerie with her mother who was on her last legs and begged the fish Faunus to take care of her 5 year old baby girl. They take her in and raise her in Menagerie.
She'd be meant for the canon universe.

Personally I wish we got to see more of the Beacon curriculum like how in the Harry Potter books they showed each school year, basically I want to know the difference between a 4th year student and a 1st year student when it comes to knowledge/power. Team CFVY were only 2nd years but their power level was far higher at the time than team RWBY, it kinda makes you wonder if the average 4th year's more or less Pyrrha tier.

We only have a few things confirmed up to now, like the fact the Combat Schools share a common theme with the Academies for their names. Vale has Beacon + Signal so things showing the path, Vacuo has Shade + Oscuro so things related to shadows (vital to live in the desert), Mistral has Haven + Sanctum so places of safeness... but I still wonder if Atlas has only one school fused to the Academy or its own combat schools, which I guess would be named after things to keep you warm like a Mantle. Personally I made up Satellite in Vale and Foyer (a word for fireplace) in Atlas for OC needs.
About curriculum, we know that in canon Beacon teaches things among Plant Science, Stealth and Security, Weapon Crafting and Upkeep, Grimm Studies, World History, and on Phoenix's Discord another list for potential non-canon subjects to teach was made.

He got lifted into the air by Dew's tornados and glided to the ship's mast.

I kinda subvert it by mostly having a character's story set in the past, just a few years after THE GREAT WAR. Very interesting times with what I see as way more competent fighters born from the flames of war, a new golden age of relative peace coming soon, and tons of smaller conflicts probably popping up here and there due to governments and people being forced to change.

Honestly I was surprised that there was no jack and the beanstalk character in vol 7, given the Marxist class system that was going on. When I made my Jack Oc, I imagined a scene where Salem got the creation relic and in turn cause atlas to start falling. My oc would combine his titan semblance with Jaune to literally hold the city and then use earth dust to solidify it, creating a scene that would reference the titan atlas holding up the heavens as a mountain.

Opal. Her semblance is Flicker Fusion Alteration. She can alter her "flicker fusion rate", making it go faster. This makes her perceive time in slow motion. She sees the world in slow motion, but she is not bound by that slow motion herself. Its not so much time manipulation, as it is rather she is perceiving/experiencing a dilation due to her FFR. This is similar to the difference in how a housefly (which has a MUCH higher FFR than a human, sees the human moving in slow motion, giving the fly PLENTY of time to move out of the way of the humans strike.
Time manipulation with out time manipulation, coming from an ACTUAL IRL thing. Oooooh yeeeeaaahhhh! :)

You can bend the rules just like Ozpin said. You can have your oc interact with the main characters and be apart of their backstory but can not break the Canon. For example if a characters backstory has many characters or interactions with other characters that were never named or shown then you can fit an Oc into it but then you run into the problem of everyone wants to do that. After all we don't get every time with these characters there is uncounted time that an oc can interact with the Canon characters.

As far as Canon interactions go, well I have a few. Krystal was born into the Branwen Tribe tho remained in the backdrop too shy to approach Qrow and wanted nothing to do with Raven but spent some time at sea with her father, a pirate. Ebony grew up in the upper echelon of Atlas , but upon hearing of a Schnee enrolling at the Academy she thought "why not". Okay, so Schnees are Very influential in the world of Remnant so indirect interactions could happen. Rudy, well, he never encountered the Schnees directly but his Father worked directly with Nicholas Schnee given the whole Rudolph/ Santa dynamic which is why his family is still upper middle-class in Mantle. Marron was snuffed out of an opportunity to perform at a banquet because she was a faunus and Fritz never let this down as he was passive-aggressive towards Winter amongst other issues to the point of being expelled from Atlas 2 months before graduation. Gaspar attended Sanctum a year ahead of Pyrrha so losing in a sparring match was bound to happen. So that's ALL of SGRP(sugar plum). Other than that, Brick, Styx ,and Hailey came over to help fight the White Fang at Haven with Sun and Blake. Tell me if any of these cross the line.

I made a team called HMNY (harmony) led by Harper oak, the other members are: myria sky, Nico dark and Yin dark
I posted a thing about harper on a previous video but basically myria is a bird Faunus with blue feathered wings and yin is a dog Faunus (yin is a girl) nico is not a Faunus but is yin’s brother their dad was not a Faunus and their mom was a bird Faunus too. Their parents got arrived in secret as many did not accept a Faunus and a human being married, their semblances are: Harper has levetation, myria has greatly enhanced sense in an are around her, nico can create things by writing in a book (they can be living beings) and yin can use portals.
Their weapons are: Harper has a spear that becomes a gun or a dagger it is also able to use fire and lightning dust , myria has a bow that uses ice and wind dust and can become a staff. Nico has a dagger as a secondary but he mainly fights by using his semblence to create monsters or other weapons. Yin has dual sickles ( mini scythes basically) with gravity dust. I’ll post a backstory on an edit to this comment at some point

His mom is like trying to "cleanse Remnant of all impurities", but nothing's perfect so yeah we gotta stop her. The reason Agni is fighting her is originally HE was gonna be Lord Deus Ex Machina but he left so now it's her. He teamed up with this version of Neo because they have a similar backstory. Yeah i wanted my characters to tied to criminal activity. Thanks to mistral that became the logical place.
Two characters were raised out side the kingdom and became tied to the spiders. the other two ended up being a part of a crime group that i made located within the main kingdom.
Where it got really cool is that the group in the city had a weapon smith as a part of the group and so those two got more complex weapons then the other two.

Takes place in an Alternate timeline, where the Canon events in backstories still happen as do other events. But the Circumstances are altered to a point that make it comfortably placed in a nice middle ground.
As for interactions, yes my new version does interact with the canon characters but only after their backstory.
My OC had his Semblance and his aura awoken at the same time by a forced Artificial way, he was experimented on with an Aura Stimulant {Basically a type of system using Atlasian tech that a Rouge Scientist put together} this experiment caused him to get PTSD and a Psychopathic Split personality

  • @Randomixx-xm1ml
    @Randomixx-xm1ml 4 роки тому +1

My OC team is meant to be seniors at Beacon when RWBY is formed, since so many fanfics featuring a full team (at least that I have read) put their OCs either after Salem is defeated or years before team RWBY came to beacon.
But disregarding what parts of team RCGL's story breaks canon, like Rayna coming to Beacon on Qrow's recommendation and a brief conversation with Ozpin, or Lucius being given transfer papers to Beacon by Professor Lionhart, where each of my OC's come from does have an impact on their personalities and semblances (all of which are described on my deviant art page).
Rayna Drake lived in a village on the east coast of Vale as a kid, but her village was ravaged when she was 5. She lived on her own in a cave in the wilderness for the following twelve years, but close enough to civilization that she isn't completely feral. But she wasn't exposed to as much faunus hatred until she encountered a bully at beacon. Regarding her semblance, it activated on its own when she was around twelve, and ran amiss of a beowolf and was forced to fight.
Cian comes from Vacuo (specifically a village built on and in the side of a canyon, since a desert would have a canyon), and as such, he hates people who are wasteful with what they have or take it for granted. He also dislikes people who judge others based on appearance, which now that I think about it could be a plot point in my story. But his semblance didn't activate until he started attending beacon (Still a work in progress on the details).
Gilderoy lives in Vale but his Grandfather was from Atlas. He isn't as arrogant as most from Atlas (again, thanks to his Grandfather) but his personality is best described as lax because of pragmatism. He's an inventor, always fiddling with machines due to his aspirations to found an engineering company to bring a little touch of Atlas to Vale (and eventually the other kingdoms as well). Despite being laid back (even more so than his Vacuan teammate Cian) he is still constantly thinking of ways to carry his team. I still need to work on how his semblance activated.
Finally, there's Lucius. He's from Mistral, and while he does disregard the faunus, he has no outright hatred for them. He also looks down on others (at first) because he is so determined to fulfill his dream of becoming a huntsman that he casts those around him to the wayside. His semblance (probably the most world-breaking thing about team RCGL besides Rayna being a Dragon Faunus) activated in a tantrum he had as a young kid about wanting to be like his two older brothers.

    • @Randomixx-xm1ml
      @Randomixx-xm1ml 4 роки тому +1

Additionally, I also wanted each of them to have a link to the relics protected in each kingdom.
Rayna had tried to steal from a store for food and supplies. Qrow confronted her and in the "fight" that followed (he's a legendary huntsman, she's a self-taught homeless girl, do the math) he was nonetheless impressed and introduced her to Ozpin, who gave her the choice to put her skills to use protecting others, which she accepted mostly because she was tired of living on dumpster scraps and stolen supplies.
Cian...well, I'm still not sure how to associate him with Destruction, in a way that's just dark enough for a RWBY character's backstory but not dark enough to work for the DCEU.
Gilderoy is an inventor who's family came from Atlas, and he's a skilled inventor in his own right. His motivation is wanting to create his own legacy, rather than just be known as the grandson of a legendary huntsman, and he also wants to create things for his fellow huntsmen and huntresses.
Lucius' semblance (as world breaking as it is) stems from the idea of knowledge of other people's powers. He's also the Blake of team RCGL in that 99% of the time, he has his face buried in a book. He craves the knowledge necessary to further his goal of becoming a huntsman.
Now, I originally planned to reverse the Ideals symbolized in Cian and Lucius, since Cian's semblance grants him knowledge of the future and Lucius wants to destroy the misconception his parents had of him that he would never be able to survive as a huntsman. But I realized that all four of them can exhibit the concepts of each of the four Ideals, and that the kingdom corresponding to each of them should have the strongest connection. So I still need to work on Cian's connection to destruction.

I have made my team JADE be from the same graduation class as STRQ but they never really had any contact, it was a coincidence that they're from the same graduation class but they had different class schedules. Being the same year as STRQ was to establish their age group. But they came from different kingdoms so they have different perceptions:
Jade is from the slums of Mistral and is a little snide but was one of the residents who weren't backwards towards faunus
Azul is from menagerie but he was the son of merchants and he's nonchalant
Daisy is from a border town between vacuo and vert and she is sunshine personified bcoz she's optimistic despite having a few struggles and growing up nomadic.
Evergreen is from the outskirts of Vale and is energetic and he was one of the few children in his tribe since a lot of the members are elderly or single adults

I'm writing an AU fanfic where four of my OCs meet up with Team RWBY during the events of V4 to make sure they arrive in Mistral in one piece. Whenever I write about their time before the show's events, which is a lot give that they're 8-9 years older than Ruby, I make sure that their actions lead to things unfolding in a way that results in the show's events taking place up until my OCs meet Ruby and her friends.
Over time, Ruby becomes far more confident, especially once she realizes she's the only person in all of Remnant who can keep one of my OCs in check no matter what happens.
I am currently working on a new version, looking more into some aspects like Yang mastering her semblance, and doing some stuff like that.
For example, one of my OCs, Talia Star, has a PhD in theoretical and applied aura theory (two different things, she got a PhD in both). She knows more about aura than most people, including the professors at Beacon, and was able to figure out the ins and outs of Yang's semblance just by watching her use it in the tournament. She's teaching Yang to absorb energy on a smaller scale, aka the impact of air molecules displaced by an opponent's weapon moving towards her, as well as sense where she absorbs how much energy. She also learned to release smaller amounts of energy, instead of all of it at once, and can effectively predict incoming attacks before they hit her, because she senses the air hitting her. Also, she's always angry now, which was a big step in controlling her semblance.

    • @EridianBlaze

I think the rule for it more-so means direct interaction/influence. Because it's entirely logical that a kid could hear about how badass Qrow is, and while never meeting their idol, could still be inspired by him to become a Huntsman. Hell, that's literally part of Ruby's backstory! Just as long as it's not like the example Phoenix gave where "OC is saved by or met [canon character]".

Dumb question but would it be ok for canon if an OC's parent was a member of the Mistral council? My idea was one of my characters would be a Faunus with both a human & Faunus parent. The human parent (mom?) would be a member of the Mistral council trying to push for better conditions/ treatment for the Faunus. Obviously to be canon she can't actually change anything but, with Mistral being Anti-Faunus, it makes sense that her words would fall on deaf ears.
Also we never see the Mistral council so.... yeah?
Edit (Additional thought): She could be a low ranking council member or aide if being on the council is too much.

I guess there is Adam's faction but he's a more pivotal character with a great deal smaller amount of followers then those how follow the actual leader.
A simialar deal with the Spiders how can you join without speaking to the leader?
And we can't just create few factions other wise there will be like 1000 then 2000 so on so forth factions for a group.
It makes more sense that the leader let in then forgot scores of qualified members then allow scores of factions doing as they please without their control or will.

I was more referring to having detailed relationships with established characters. Like having an OC that was Ruby's childhood best friend or Ironwoods top commander before winter, etc. Those would be non Canon because of their interactions with Canon characters.
Every student accepted to or graduating from an academy is expected to have seen or interacted with teachers or headmasters but it's all about designing a character to fit within the RWBY Canon so as not to change characters with established backstories

Something else to note is that other than the main 4 academies which are considered major acadamies, there should also be a bunch of minor ones, else they'd just be 'The Academies'. This is also a shot at the talk around the first few episodes of Rwby, implying that other than beacon that there are at least a smaller academy somewhere else, as well as (at least) a High school for becoming a Hunter/Huntress from how the talk was going on, since the average age of an entry student was 18, implying Vale is a college.

"No interaction with the canon characters". I have to disagree with that statement. OC can interact with canon characters by having them meet in past events before the show begins or in the future after the show ends. This is the case for two of my OC for my version of team SLVR. The leader of my team was a student at Signal Academy with Ruby, during the Vytal Festival he wanted to meet up with her but do to events in his story he had to return to his home village. After the attack on Beacon he had to leave signal so he could take his sister to Menagerie to find their grandparents because their parents had been killed during a grimm attack at their village. One of my other characters has meet Blake when she was in the White Fang. She only meet her on a couple mission but does not really know anything about her. She saw Blake as a traitor when she left the White Fang but later understood why she left after the attack on Beacon. My character leaves the White Fang as well and goes to Menagerie to the orphanage she grow up in. She gets there after the events of the show because she is also hiding from the White Fang.

I partially agree with you, but I can still see where he’s coming from; the way I see it, if you could swap a nameless background character in a scene with your character and nothing would change regarding the canon plot, it’s fine. If your character when to Signal while Ruby was there, it’d only be natural he would have interacted with her. That doesn’t mean his presence affected her story.

    • @PhoenixNight
      @PhoenixNight  2 роки тому +1

Not a dumb question at all! It's refreshing to see people making non-huntsman characters 😊
The location that a character would be born into would influence how they view the world growing up. Whether that be the upper class of Atlas in a society that looks down on others, or the Kingdom of Vacuo where everyone distrusts the other Kingdoms. It would also depend on what role models the individual has in their life that helps to shape who they are. Are their parents absent? Or do they inspire their child to follow in their footsteps becoming a craftsman, a fisherman, a shopkeep, etc.? Did they meet someone else in their life that helped inspire them or was it something they had to learn themselves while working with or against the society that they live in?
Each of the paths that one could take will likely be influenced by the Kingdom that they grow up in but there are many paths that one can take writing a character

Depends on the context. If an OC interacts with a character in any way that will impact the Canon character in a meaningful way, then I would consider it non-canon.
In the case of Jacques Schnee, an example of a potentially Canon interaction an OC could have would be as an employee at the Schnee Dust company or a regular butler in the Schnee manor that Jacques never bothered to learn their name. Something that could be very significant for the OCs story but for Jacques it's nothing that would change his story or conflict with who he was and what he did in the show

Technically Yes this would be breaking canon as it falls into the category of "what if everyone else did this?" I definitely understand wanting a skilled character but if everyone has a Kingdom wide tournament winning character then it doesn't really work as that would raise the overall power level of students in Remnant. For your own story though, it would be completely fine, my definition of canon is just considering all canon OCs to exist at the same time

I kinda sorta disagree with your interpretation of creating and installing OCs. Every thing that is fan-made is technically an AU since the content they put out is not featured in the RWBY show whether that's one-shots that fleshes out character relationships between Weiss and Yang for example or a completely bonkers medieval AU.
I agree with your tenants of making sure OCs don't break the laws of physics as that in general creates a more engaging narrative but imagining every OC created exists simultaneously is restricting and uncomfortable.
I feel that any OC/Fic is in of itself, within it's own universe and continuity
