I've watched this vid several times as I've been considering a Loar A Style mandolin. Listening to you play these F styles convinced me that this maker would be a good starter for me, so a couple of weeks ago I bought one. There's a tune you played at 12:59 I've never heard before, but I really like it. Does it have a title? Enjoyed the video a lot and I subscribed to your channel also. You're a great musician, keep 'em coming!
Pretty nice beginner mandolins and a real attractive price. Some really fine pickin' too. I use a Dunlop Ultex 1.14 mm pick on its side (the large rounded corners as opposed to the point) I find it gives a really nice tone and lasts forever. I've used them for about 15 years and like them above all the others I've tried. I can't afford a tortoise shell pick so I can't comment on them. Enjoy your videos, keep 'em coming.
I am a guitar player who started to fall in love with Mandolin. Been eyeing The Loar mandolins, and this video helped me a lot to make a decision. Thank you. Also, fantastic playing! ❤️
I think the 590 sounds marginally "clearer", both sound pretty good to my ear. I bought a secondhand LM600VS a couple of years ago and it's pretty good. "The Loar" instruments are hard to find in he UK.
Really enjoyed the picking! Very talented! I was looking for good mandolin. Been looking at these Loar and Eastman and even some used Gibsons. Trying to find a good sounding and affordable mandolins.
Great video! They both sound great, but i'm personally leaning toward the LM310 cause of the significant price difference. Ive seen used ones for under $400. I saw an excellent Led Zeppelin cover band recently that used the LM310 and it sounded great. Cheers!
I’ve been on the fence for months between the LM590 in the Eastman MD315. Everyone seems to be saying to save up longer for the Eastman and that all that extra money will be worth it in the long run, but you sure make it tempting to buckle under and go with The Loar. You play beautifully and just earned a new sub from me. I’m wondering if you can tell me your opinion on whether or not the difference between a regular and a radius fret board really makes that big of a difference in ease of playing? Cheers.
I mostly play guitar and I have a radius Collings mandolin. I played a flatiron for a while that had a flat neck and know people that play flat necks. If I had to choose for me overall I like radius.
@@flatpickingfrazier - I’ve tried both flat and radius but never one right after the other, only months apart so that’s why I’m trying to see if there’s a general preference among more talented and experienced players. Thanks for the reply.

The Loar LM -590MS sounds woody with a great balance between mid and high. I like the way you are approaching the playability... finger-style picking.

Hope ya find ya a good one! I personally play a Collings but I know that can be pricey. I lucked up and got mine a long time ago.

The lm 590 sounds better because it is solid wood, back and sides whereas the lm 310 has laminate back and sides.
