Another reason why they don't want you to wear contacts is because if it falls out during an obstacle course you therefore are a safety risk.. No one is going to stop for you to find your contacts that just popped out. But probably the main reason is the gas chamber. You don't ever want to wear contacts in the gas chamber.. ever!
UranusGaseous in the chamber and any big flashes they can fuse to your eyes so you really don't want to rip your Corina out. if you get dirt or sand in your eye or on your contact you can also scratch you eyes very badly.
another boot band hack- use two or three of them on your rack. You take the little hooks and put them through your sheets from one end to the other, and then just sleep in your sleeping bag. it makes sure your rack is 100% tight 100% of the time. you rarely have to re-do it. It also makes inspection a hell of a lot easier, because when they toss your rack it all stays in one piece.
Good life hack for sure. Unfortunately for my platoon, our drill instructor found out we were doing that and banned it, but it's still good nonetheless!
Hey thanks for your service sir, but this channel is helping me out a lot. I want to join the marines out of high school, which is 1.5 years away. Thesevideos are amazing, thanks man!
When getting the electrical tape, if there is non glossy electrical tape it is more durable for the heat, glossy is highly likely to melt and become sticky rather than non glossy
Seriously thanks for the videos. I'm studying for the Asvab testing right now and hope to enlist in the Army by October. My major issue right now is the math part. If I need to score high on it it will take more time to study.
SALO or The 120 Days of Sodom: I can't eat rice with my hands like this... Then eat Isht! They're around but they're not going crazy in the px (store). You get a list of what you need and usually there's other recruits already with items in hand, throwing everything you need into your basket. Only thing you buy yourself is hygiene gear.
Sam Carrasco cool thanks. I watched a video of marines shopping and it was surreal. Lol. Also.. Does BCG really stand for Boot Camp Glasses? I asked my girl what it really stood for but she couldn't give me an answer. She's in the army National Guard. Boot Camp glasses makes sense if it's the official meaning for the abbreviation.
SALO or The 120 Days of Sodom: I can't eat rice with my hands like this... Then eat Isht! Nah you don't get messed with too much when you're shopping. It's just get in, get out. I've never heard any other name for BCG's lol I never had those. They came out with the new 5A's when I was in boot camp. Way better looking but they dig into the bridge of your nose.
In some situations you might not be able to buy electrical tape. When I went through Navy boot camp in 2004 at great lakes IL The RDCs could dictate what you can and cannot buy on the rare occasion that you got to go to the Navy Exchange. We were not even allowed to buy anything to prevent athletes foot unless it was a powder (no sprays). Never had glasses or contacts myself so I don't know much about that.
That's a pretty great idea. Just got out of airforce BMT, they had us buy glasses straps at the bx for our glasses though. Totally would have done this if we didn't have them.
Another tip i wish i knew when i went through boot camp is everyone cherishes the letters they get when they are in bootcamp and footlockers are always getting dumped and letters get lost but once you get your bodybag and its hanging behind your racks you can put your letters in there drill instructors can not dump your body bag so they will always be safe in there

ClaytonFilpo I have glasses and im joining the marines but i have a stigmatism with my eyes but its not that bad is this an automatic disqualification when going to meps.
Hey Clayton, new subscriber and first time commenting here. Been waiting on a waiver to pass for a couple of weeks and I feel confident that it will. I've also been thinking a lot about what I want to do in the Marine Corps. What can you tell me about tank crewman and if many of them enjoy their job? Keep up the great work, I like your content!
Welcome to the channel, Sam. Tank crewman is definitely a challenging job. Very nitty gritty job, but the enjoyment part is in the eye of the beholder, ya know? I like to tell people to pick a job that will translate applicable skills in the civilian world. I'd say make a list and have your top 3 choices ready to give to your recruiter.
ClaytonFilpo I've tried doing as much research on it as I can, watched videos on it and it all just gets me really excited for it. Here's another question I have. I understand that when it comes to signing your contract, and if I'm wrong please correct me, but you sign for a job field, and not a specific MOS. Realistically, what are the odds of you getting the specific MOS that you want when you sign the contract?
For an 03xx job, for example, you sign for the overarching MOS and then select a sub mos once you get to mos school. For other jobs, such as public affairs for example, you can outright have them written into your contract. Nothing is promised in the Marine Corps, don't forget that. By all means, get everything you can written into your contract, because that's the only thing they can't f**k you on
Lifehack for Basic Training, if you can see without glasses, get them then hide them in your locker the first day so the Drill Sergeants don't know they exist. Once you get those things scratched to shit lowcrawling through rocks you won't be able to see out of them no matter how awesome your prescription is.
Would you recommend getting lasik eye surgery before boot camp? I feel like it would make life a whole lot easier since you wouldn't have to worry about glasses.
Well now if you have portholes they use some short of machine that gets the prescription of your civilian portholes and use that to get the new ones, the only test I had to do was the hearing test. This was at MCRD San Diego, not sure how PI does it. Also an other thing recruits did was take some recruit tap or electrical tap and do a layer around the bridge of the portholes to prevent them from digging into their/your noise. With those brainstraps they did tend to dig in, also we use to do the same but around the ear peaces well some recruits did, one layer of tap to help stop the portholes from digging into the side of their grapes.
I just started this playlist so I haven't seen all the videos. What if the Drill instructor comes over to you while you're sitting? I'm a future Marine and I don't want to fuck up.
hey hey hey! video idea! what should we do to train for joining the army/marines all that jazz. what should we study, learn, train. what do you at boot camp as well as what would you need to do to train prior to it. I can't join currently because of my weight (so I am strictly dieting and excersizing) but I'm just spitballing excersizes. doing what I THINK would help me but not really doing what would. please answer this!
Going to the marines after i lose weight but for most of my life i've dealt with eye problems. I have -10 eyesight. Pretty sure its due to my high blood sugar. Hope after i get my weight under control that my eyes can get back to normal.
I never had BCs in boot, but once I got to MOS school I flopped the eye exam. I hid those fuckers before I got tan lines & didn't look back. 12 years later... I kinda like em & wear them quite often. They're easy to pull off nowadays... everyone just thinks you're a hipster.
Sounds like the USMC should get the old German World War I glasses. They sound like the perfect blend between the BCG's and the new glasses. They feel like shit but they have a decent enough headband that if you take a mortar the face they'll still be on.
When do you have time to fix your glasses like you did? As soon as you buy the 2 items or what? Do you get a free time to do it? I'm enlisting in a few weeks and will have to have glasses in bootcamp
We had to purchase an adjustable "brain strap" made specifically for glasses. They don't sell those anymore? My BCG's would get so soaked in sweat that they would slide out on my nose even with the "brain strap" on them. One DI would "assist" me with my glasses by pushing them back into place with his fingers in the middle of each lens and smirk every time he did it because he knew that the only thing I was able to see for a while was his smudged fingerprints in my direct line of sight.
Good looking out Clayton, I never wore glasses, I just can't read things past 20ft (can't believe they said I need some), anyways I will use this hack. But will my glasses fall without this?
He did mention brain straps but they also broke easily hence these "life hacks" also if they broke or you lost them before your PX call for the week or month you can use these tips to get by until then. Unless you know some one with an extra brain strap.
Six yup, you're just going to be more worldly than an 18 year old. And its going to suck ass since you need to be younger to bounce back from the physical stuff. I remember there was a 30 something year old with us in SOI
I have astigmatism and myopia in both eyes, the diopters in my right eye add up To -8 and in my left -7.25. Would I be disqualified at MEPS if I tried to enlist? Just want to know because I’ve always wanted to join, but if my vision is gonna be a barrier I’ll look into getting an ICL eye surgery.
Not in boot camp you can't. They have the potential to fall out at an inopportune time and it would be one more thing you'd have to deal with as part of your nightly routine and you really don't get that much time to do things before it's lights out.
I wear glasses and the main problem I have is they slide off my nose a lot (perks of having oily skin) , does the strap help with that? also can you find info on the female perspective of boot camp. and why do I hear a lot of "bad things" about female recruit training like it's not as serious as the male's, etc.?
Not sure about the east coast but at MCRD San Diego they sold "brain straps" at the recruit PX. All of our DIs made everyone with port holes buy them. Not sure if the DIs would allow that recruit hack of yours for uniformity reasons.
On the East coast, the recruit hat was very common. The brain strap they sell (the black elastic one with rubber holders) was so bad that they let this lance criminal stuff go down.
I didnt know they gave you your own glasses. Thats sick. I was worried ty man!
No need to worry dude. They got the hook up!
Awesome!
💯
hey man how has it been going?
"Super sized dome" 😂😂😂😂💀
I leave for Parris Island Jan 9th. Y'all pray for me lmao.
um MugL shave ur head before u go shows initiative
zeee kalouska no chance lmao
johnnyisfun21 I first saw the recruiter earlier this month
um MugL Good luck 👍🏻
um MugL That's my birthday lmao.
My dad had to wear those birth-control glasses when he was in the naval academy and he told me they sucked
Another reason why they don't want you to wear contacts is because if it falls out during an obstacle course you therefore are a safety risk.. No one is going to stop for you to find your contacts that just popped out. But probably the main reason is the gas chamber. You don't ever want to wear contacts in the gas chamber.. ever!

Make more boot camp life hacks videos if you have more!
I'm not even going to join the army or other branch, don't know why I'm marathoning this.
"a supersized dome" 😭
Hey thanks for your service sir, but this channel is helping me out a lot. I want to join the marines out of high school, which is 1.5 years away. Thesevideos are amazing, thanks man!
Glad these help bro!!
Wouldn't that glasses band be a little to individual for bootcamp. I think it would stand out a bit since it's not the issued one.
I got two years until I can enlist
Work out and stay motivated!
JKI One Year for me.
JKI same here
JKI 3, for me
JKI Same.
idk. a black guy could probably pull it off. It'll be like the urkle look
lol!!!!!
Bubs!
Bubbles fack off bubs
Hahahahaha
Gonna be useful af thanks bro
When getting the electrical tape, if there is non glossy electrical tape it is more durable for the heat, glossy is highly likely to melt and become sticky rather than non glossy
port holes
This video helped a lot, when I go to boot camp I'm definitely using this to my advantage
Brandon Marchese did it work?
The windows, excuse me, port holes behind you were a little glaring.
Thank you so much I am working with a recruiter now in the airforce and was curious about glasses at BMT this was very useful info.
Get them raccoon eye pro tan! Hooah! Haha! Great video battle
It's all good, ya'll! I encourage anyone and everyone to comment. We chill here!
TRAVIS BRUNET bc she wants to..
Love supporting other military channels, thats why lol
Seriously thanks for the videos. I'm studying for the Asvab testing right now and hope to enlist in the Army by October. My major issue right now is the math part. If I need to score high on it it will take more time to study.
Mostly it’s simple algebra and area perimeter and diameter radius for math
How do you buy these things when the drill instructor is breathing down your neck when you're shopping and telling you what to buy?
SALO or The 120 Days of Sodom: I can't eat rice with my hands like this... Then eat Isht! They're around but they're not going crazy in the px (store). Omg, thank you! I ship out to boot camp in 2 weeks and was worried about how my glasses will stay on my head for the duration
But how much will you get yelled at by a di/ds for doing something like that?
In some situations you might not be able to buy electrical tape. Ya I kept literally every single letter from boot. Have them in a shoe box at my parent's house. I should break them out and do a video on them.
ClaytonFilpo do it up brotha!
After seeing those glasses my vision somehow improved by 50%.
Contacts can melt to your eye lids and rip out your cornea with the type of equipment we operate with and the desert heat is 120 degrees.
Thanks man, this vid was super helpful. I'll be leaving to basic soon and when I found out I can't have my contacts I was stressin lol.
bubbles from trailer park boys lol nice
Decent
HAHAHAHAHA YES

ClaytonFilpo Bats aren't blind.
ClaytonFilpo they won't let them do that anymore, because the hooks on the bootbands cut into some recruits heads apparently. Semper Fidelis Sergeant
That's why I said to tape the boot bands on the outside of the glasses frame. No more hooks!
ClaytonFilpo I have glasses and im joining the marines but i have a stigmatism with my eyes but its not that bad is this an automatic disqualification when going to meps.
It's spelled Y'all
I was prescribed a pair of the ol' BCG's in boot camp. My vision wasn't terrible, so I didn't ever wear those things.
“Supersized dome” 😂😂😂😂
fuckin love trailer park boys

Ugh I'm so mad about having to wear glasses...
Dude i laughed way to hard at the "super size dome" part
i ship out to parris island on the 28th of may and BC GLASSES ARE NO MORE
Thank you so much I was just about to ask you about the glasses situation!
Indestructible glasses of warrrr!!! 🎵
love the military vids clayton
Thanks dude!!
much appreciated
I knew a guy who actually could rock bcg
Lifehack for Basic Training, if you can see without glasses, get them then hide them in your locker the first day so the Drill Sergeants don't know they exist. Would you recommend getting lasik eye surgery before boot camp? I feel like it would make life a whole lot easier since you wouldn't have to worry about glasses.
Depends. The Marines will pay for your lasik after two years of service. The glasses weren't bad to deal with imo
Well now if you have portholes they use some short of machine that gets the prescription of your civilian portholes and use that to get the new ones, the only test I had to do was the hearing test. Yep. All good stuff^^ Those glasses can REALLY give you a headache the way they dig in
They even broke skin at times if you where not careful and I had a open shore on top of my ears from them.
I just started this playlist so I haven't seen all the videos. What if the Drill instructor comes over to you while you're sitting? I'm a future Marine and I don't want to fuck up.
Surgical tubing works good too
thank you for your service

I think this hack will surely get me in trouble in the name of non individuality ....
I did this. My Drill Sergeants were assholes. They took them from me, and made me do 200 push-ups. Pissed me off
Carson Stephens quit lying
lol no need to lie about shit like this man.Makes u pathetic
Zani Puppyrhino how is he lying? Sorry I’m not in the military. I’m interested in the Army
When I had my boot camp picture taken, I knew it would be for posterity. So, I removed my BC's.
7 minute video shortened: Tape elastic string to glasses to stop them from falling off
I never had BCs in boot, but once I got to MOS school I flopped the eye exam. I hid those fuckers before I got tan lines & didn't look back. 12 years later... I kinda like em & wear them quite often. They're easy to pull off nowadays... everyone just thinks you're a hipster.
thanks man this video really helped me out!
I thought that I read that they don't use contacts in the military because contacts would melt to your eye if you were caught in or near an explosion.
That could be another valid point. But again, people still wear contacts all of the time.
ClaytonFilpo Very true.
Birth control glasses 🤣🤣 Damn 🤣🤣
Do you get disqualified if you have bad vision?? I cant see anything that about 6 inches away
I'm in the same boat. You're good.
That's good to hear. Thanks!
Cindy KNOWS I would say Lasic, honestly the best $8000 dollars I've ever spent
No Lasik, do PRK. Lasik disqualifies you from more jobs
I have bad vision and currently waiting on a waiver right now, I have astigmatism btw
Thank you for saving my ass
Supersized Dome LOL 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Sounds like the USMC should get the old German World War I glasses. They sound like the perfect blend between the BCG's and the new glasses.
They feel like shit but they have a decent enough headband that if you take a mortar the face they'll still be on.
I’m not wearing my glasses in there as soon as I’m issued I’m putting them in my footlocker
wow I didn't know that they give glasses
honestly wish I was prescribed glasses. it makes the whole "cover two inches from your nose" thing so much easier.
birth control glasses
When do you have time to fix your glasses like you did? As soon as you buy the 2 items or what? Do you get a free time to do it? I'm enlisting in a few weeks and will have to have glasses in bootcamp
nice I thought I was going to get my own pair. Thanks.
whom ever signed off on your MOS made a great choice.
Outstanding
Thanks for this
i used to go out in bars on weekend and rock those bcg's lol..got 0 numbers haha
They give you a eye test when u been up for more than 24 hours 😂.
Which basic training do they provide these glasses for? For army basic training or navy basic training?
My vision isn't that bad, but I do wear glasses and I was wondering if I'd have to wear them all the time?
at boot camp yes. other than that its up to you
uh they sold something that fit the glasses that were adjustable.
emon377 Yeah, they're called brain straps. Those who wore portholes were told to buy them on our first stop at the px
He did mention brain straps but they also broke easily hence these "life hacks" also if they broke or you lost them before your PX call for the week or month you can use these tips to get by until then. Unless you know some one with an extra brain strap.
You can buy more nerd bands at the px bruh
You're telling me a DI isn't going to tear me a new one if I have that stuff taped to my glasses?
Depends on your DI. Plenty of people did this in boot camp when I was there (including myself) and never got in trouble.
if you are 25, can you still go into the marines?
yea
how does it work? is it the same as if you were 18?
Six yup, you're just going to be more worldly than an 18 year old. And its going to suck ass since you need to be younger to bounce back from the physical stuff. I remember there was a 30 something year old with us in SOI
alrighty, thanks for the information :P also, did the 30 year old make it through?
Yep you can go in. I knew dudes as old as 29
What do you do in combat if your glasses get broken and you can't see without them?
that's when you grab the mask inserts and use those till you can get a new pair of glasses.
Jormungand13324 what's a mask insert
Thank you
I bet they are nice and fancy....we used to call them Birth Control Glasses....Well I posted before watching the whole vid LuLz
I only have contacts, if they don't give me glasses until the 3 or 4th day.... how tf am I gonna see?
I have astigmatism and myopia in both eyes, the diopters in my right eye add up
To -8 and in my left -7.25. Would I be disqualified at MEPS if I tried to enlist?
Just want to know because I’ve always wanted to join, but if my vision is gonna be a barrier I’ll look into getting an ICL eye surgery.
So you CAN'T use contact glasses?
Not in boot camp you can't. They have the potential to fall out at an inopportune time and it would be one more thing you'd have to deal with as part of your nightly routine and you really don't get that much time to do things before it's lights out.
Any Thoughts on getting lasik or whatever eye surgery before marines, or just suck it up with glasses
Is that Shea in the thumb pic lol 😂
Indeed
The military can give you laser eye surgery.
Kenny Draws Stuff Not until after BCT or boot
I wear glasses and the main problem I have is they slide off my nose a lot (perks of having oily skin) , does the strap help with that? also can you find info on the female perspective of boot camp. and why do I hear a lot of "bad things" about female recruit training like it's not as serious as the male's, etc.?

I trashed my glasses!!!!
Can’t I just give them my prescription lmaoo
