    The Ringling Brothers Circus had there main base over by the air port, as a child in the 60's. My dad would take me there to watch them train . Great memories

    Well Lock Lady has now become Bridge Lady. Nice days traveling and everything seems to be going well. Now you get to try out the new bridle for the anchor

    We love Venice, lucky enough to spend the winter in the condos just diagonal from Fisherman’s Warf, @ 2:33. The bridge you walked over is the KMI bridge, named for the Kentucky Military Institute, who wintered in Venice for years, ~1931-70. Yes the Circus bridge is named for the Ringling Bros circus who had their winter quarters in Venice, starting in 1959. Oddly enough the circus actually came to town before there was a bridge there, the bridge was built when the ICW was cut through the the mid 60s, connecting two bays with about a 3 mile channel. The bike path on your port side was a railroad, which brought both the KMI cadets and the circus to Venice.

    I lived in Venice FL for years also. The Ringling Brothers Circus was located in Venice as they're winter home. They had a Clown school also & someone mentioned the parade with the marching of the Animals as the last loaded them onto train cars to take them to events. As you past Marine max the Circus would of been just about 1000 yards past them. Next to airport.

    The Circus bridge in Venice is called that because that is where Ringling Bros. Circus walked the animals over to the winter grounds near the airport. I lived in Venice for several years in the 80's and 90's and they had the circus there during the winter months, but its gone now.

    Up here in the PNW the eagles and hawks are everywhere. I live rural on 20 acres in Eastern Washington just 25 miles from Idaho. I would think on the Great Loop that eagles would be a common site. 🦅

    Sam, we have friends that live in Venice. He told us the Circus Bridge was named that because years ago when the Circus came to Venice the animals were walked across the bridge into town. Great video. Thanks, Mark

    You mentioned that you had your VHF antennas angled to clear the bridges , curious as to why you didn't angle them toward the back in case they rubbed they would fair better if angled back,,, Oh ya and I know we are all looking for the sun to set on 2020

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  4 роки тому

      Good question. We cannot angle them back enough because the lower hardtop would not allow them back. So we tilt them forward below the height of the forward hardtop.

    We love that area you passed through, we vacation on palm island, the island with the two car ferries. We were down there when you came through, we saw a few carvers heading south on the ICW in our travels out an about on our boat, small world. Keep it up we hope to be on the loop in a few more years

    There is a wonderful museum showing the Winter home of the Ringlings. A beautiful mansion. We have Folding Ebikes for the camper. They are great, added a rack to both so we can carry things from the store. Sure they would be good for the boat also.

      Hi Timothy, Yes, we are putting them up as we do them. Sometimes we get behind, but the stretch from SW Florida to Baltimore (where we will cross our wake) is still ahead of us. Cheers, Sam

    I love your channel. Watching you negotiate all these bridges I wondered what is the maximum air draft that a boat can have to complete the the Great Loop. Thanks

      The smallest bridge is around 19ft 6in for a fixed bridge in Chicago there is a way around it though you just would miss the city

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  4 роки тому

      Yes, What Benton says is true. The 19.5 bridge is on the Cal-Sag. We took that route because we were at 17.5 and the lower bridges on the Chicago City Route are about that height and vary as much as a foot each day - we watched the sensors a week before making the decision. See our video #49 for details. ua-cam.com/video/pUebu4pA6Iw/v-deo.html

      Benten66 z0 There is no way around the 19' 6" bridge Cal Sag near Chicago. If your boat can't clear 19'6' you can't due The Great Loop you have to do The Great U-Turn

    Sarasota was the home to John Ringling (Ringling Brothers Circus). It was the winter home to his circus. It is also the home to his museum.

    I would guess that what they are feeding the pelicans is just uneaten old bait from the previous crab pot. Probably after it has been down there for a while, it gets less effective at attracting crabs and gets kinda nasty.

    Thanks, Don and Catherine

      Yes, there are quite a few Loopers that travel with pets. We were surprised at how many. It is a chore for some of them, but they are family members too!

      Nope, I looked it up...here is 33 U.S.C. 499 ... c) Civil penalties for violation; notice and hearing; assessment, collection, and remission; civil actions
      Whoever violates any rule or regulation issued under subsection (a) or (b), shall be liable to a civil penalty of not more than $5,000 for a violation occurring in 2004; $10,000 for a violation occurring in 2005; $15,000 for a violation occurring in 2006; $20,000 for a violation occurring in 2007; and $25,000 for a violation occurring in 2008 and any year thereafter. No penalty may be assessed under this subsection until the person charged is given notice and an opportunity for a hearing on the charge. The Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating may assess and collect any civil penalty incurred under this subsection and, in his discretion, may remit, mitigate, or compromise any penalty until the matter is referred to the Attorney General. If a person against whom a civil penalty is assessed under this subsection fails to pay that penalty, an action may be commenced in the district court of the United States for any district in which the violation occurs for such penalty.
