Who still listening in 2024? I am!
These new females rappers are scabs compared to Lyte and Latifa!
Everytime I'm about to go asleep I hear this beat in my head
Yup
🤝
Word up
Not only could you UNDERSTAND every word, she had flow, great narrative, and a comprehensive story that sent a solid message. This is not only hip hop. This is ART AND POETRY at its finest. Love MC LYTE.
The song has substance in 2023 female rappers are sell out Jezebels....
Facts
Agreed
Couldn’t have said it better 💯
Yup. That's what I miss the most. The storytelling, flow along with the beat all working together as a complete whole. I don't like doing the old person era comparison thing but one of the things that bugs me about modern rap/hip hop is the beat does far too much of the heavy lifting.
Her lyrics don't age, they mature like a fine wine. Love Mc Lyte

The 90s were so dope. Im 47 and i feel like the rappers back then were like Angels guiding us and teaching us about life and what was to come
Word up. Miss our era so much
Most rappers were informing everyone how to sell dope and pimp hoes.

Agreed! No one Flows , or Comprehends the true Art Form of Hip Hop like MC Lyte! 🎤
Listening to this with my 11 y/o daughter. Just allowing her to see that women can make great music without taking off their clothes, not cussing or shaking their behinds all over the place. Thank you Ms. LYTE!!
That voice on MC Lyte still give me chills after all these years later and I'm 53 Year's old.

My cousin told me that she loved Lyte's voice too
This generation will never understand how DOPE the 90's were. ✌🏾😎
They will, when they will play those tracks.
THAT SONG CAME OUT IN THE LATE 80'S
Facts..
Or late 80s

Music with a message I miss this kind of music
So true
No cursing at all
They don't make music like this anymore they stop making good music in the late 80s early 90s
Yesssss
No doubt not men or women sending this kind of message. I remember this one very good
I love how she got her homies chillin.. all fully dressed no provocative looks, they actually are dressed down and all look beautiful!
They are also the beautiful women in black…
Who’s cutting onions?? 😢😢 still moving thirty plus years later
It does make you emotional…not going to lie about that!!!❤😢
"If you love someone you should say it often, you'll never know when they'll be laying in a coffin".

This beat is immaculate 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 bring back the remix era
The best was by a group called Toto, titled Georgie Porgy. It featured vocals by Steve Lukather & background vocals by Cheryl Lynn recorded around 1978-79.
No one is promised tomorrow she was a truly talented lyrist and excellent story teller....better than majority of modern day musicians by far!
Exactly Thank You
She was ahead of her time, and always on point
not ahead, back then was the time! Nowdays "rap" is full of "artists" servants of war provoking, "it is good for economy", colonizing, redneck grasshoppers. Fight the power! ...and not just in rap, we got to burn down the Babylon, revolution is coming!
Yeah
Y’all lil girls need to start saying something
Fact's!
I love her because she didn't have to show her behind like women in the industry today. She had words to say and records they could play everyday.
MC Lyte is one of the best female rappers ever.
"The" best.
The "BEST" ever
When female rappers were rappers kept it hood,gangsta.. Not prostitudes or strippers..
Classic
Mc Lyte is the best female rapper ever
One of my favorite songs by Lyte
One of my favorite hip hop songs of all. Lyte kicked those songs that the average person can relate to.
Where did you get the TV on the tree from?
The storytelling was just so good. I really appreciate all the rappers from back in the day. I honestly wish I was born during this time period. This is real real hip-hop although I’m young, I’m glad I’m still able to listen to the foundation of this genre of music. Today’s rappers don’t even come close.
This beat got a cold ass breakdown and mc lyte voice killed it
TUSHAY!!
DJ really did a great job here.
Georgie Porgie by Africa, mixed with Michael Jackson's Where I wanna be
This whole beat was a sample from a 70's white rock group.. Toto..
When rap was about life...
MC Lyte is the number one female rapper of all time.
I agree
Without a doubt
Lauryn Hill is.....The GOAT
I see her more as a singer than a rappers.
100%
The *90s* was truly the highlight of hip hop's creativity...which is why my own music is inspired by it entirely🎶🎧🎤
She was Badass back in the day.
Especially her lyrics like this.."Funky fresh dressed to impress, ready to party".
Amazing M.C. Lyte
We got notice this shit....
Little known fact : LL Cool J co wrote her verse on the Self Destruction song because Russell Simmons did not want him to participate on the song ...Public Enemy ignored him and and did it anyway!
SELF DESTRUCTION....... This song was about Georgies Self Destruction. Wow. KRS 1 put her on. This is still lit.
I THINK 🤔 SHE STILL IS BAD ASS. CHILD HOOD MEMORIES BRINGS BACK GOOD TIME'S I WAS 20 LIVING IN PATERSON NJ AWESOM
Golden age of hip hop.

Positive hip-hop so refreshing!
For those who don’t know, the sample used here is “Georgy Porgy” performed by Toto. The live in Paris ‘93 version is by far one of the best concert performances in history. Those dudes rock out! Much love to all people out there making music. Much love to humans. Regardless of skin shade or language spoken. A C-Major or Minor is the same no matter! ❤️❤️👍✌️
This is my first time hearing this song however.
The best female rapper of all time!!!
Thanks! Someone on this thread knows the origins of this track.
Well they got it from Barry White with his orchestra
Toto featuring Cheryl Lynn from 1978..
Plus there is a Jackson 5 sample- " I Wanna Be Where You Are"
Wow, so FREAKIN CLASSIC! Back then it was a lot of storytelling in rap. Notice you could understand every word she was saying, no cursing and the song had a message. Lyte was a pioneer! A BEAST! The 90's was a special time in hip-hop.
Yes
The sad part is the young women paved away for females to be respected thru their words an you could still bounce to the beat. Then later on down the road grabbing coochies, calling themselves bitches, an no you can say that kind of female wouldn't have made it today. I still love to hear me some Brat, Missy, Queen an the list go on, Smh 🤦🏽♀️ but thankful we was blessed to be apart of it. Look how lady like an successful most of them if not all have become they stepped in up knocked it out the Field 🎵🙏🏽😇
Very Special...🙏
Sorry but gotta throw sum love to my Queen Bee too Lil Kim....the original bad gurl💯

MC Lyte is not only the greatest female MC of all time, but she is also better than most males!
Back when music had a story behind it. Her voice was always dope.
The queen of hip hop
Her flow, the beat, the sample. Absolute perfection. MC Lyte is the queen of Hip Hop. STILL bumpin this track in 23!
I heard "Georgie Porgy" decades after hearing this, and I have to say Lyte did the sample justice.
The song is genuine. We need more like this these days.
One problem gangsta rap has killed everything that was positive like this cut.
It's good to look back at these type of jams. Detailed lyrics, women dressed and classy. Love it
The 80s was one of the best times for music 🎶 I'm so glad I got to be there.

"George was mature, he made sure, that he was the only man I'd ever adore" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ugggghhh my heart can't take it!!!!
It's important that you know that no one on earth is promised tomorrow
This song is so amazing for so many reasons. Obviously the use of the original song’s meaning. The two depictions of a man; the player everyone feels as though they know and the man that has just as many issues as anyone else. Maybe even more. The story telling of this record always makes me second guess my writing skills. Breaking down multiple perspectives as well as maintaining her own. Topics that people still discuss today. The beat itself tells the same story with the ins and outs/samples. Captivating if you claim a love for story telling. More importantly creativity. This one record alone puts MC Lyte in my top 3 rappers male or female of all time. Much Love ❤️
MC Lyte is one of the greatest female rappers. One of my coming of age artists. I loved their fashion back then. It was all about what they sang not what they wore
I’m glad I came up on great music like this. The samples in this song are RIDICULOUS, and the video is extra dope. Even the dancers was on point.
One of the biggest reasons i love golden age hip hop is learning the sampled songs and being exposed to new music…
