Holy head port is huge.
It's certainly a long drive to get to ferry
The Harbour at Holyhead has been completely rearranged to the way it used to be. The Ferry used to dock right next to the Railway station, and it was a short walk on. Now you have to be driven on by bus if you are a foot passenger, and the vehicles have to drive for ages to get on board. Plus it's such a shame Dun Laoghaire is not used any more as a you could walk off the ferry from Holyhead straight up Marine Road and be in a pub in a two minutes. Dublin Port is a soulless place. Some things do change for the worse. Agree is so confusing now at Holyhead badly signed to get in lanes for correct ferry just nobody around, you have basically just got to keep an eye out for the boat on the horizon!
It's the first time we have used this Ferry Port, we went from Merseyside Liverpool to Belfast on our last trip to Ireland back in 2016, seemed to be a total lack of information at check in or direction, all we were given was the card you hang in the front windscreen, your then left to find your own way, if we do it next time at least we will know, thought video would be useful for anyone travelling from there for the first time, Thanks for watching and commenting
I travel this route up to 3 times a year and this is the first time I haven’t seen a member of staff directing you to a numbered lane , very unusual. The worker probably needed the toilet 😊. It’s quiet a distance to the boat from the check in so it’s easy to doubt if your going the right way, just keep following the sign for your numbered terminal. Doing anything for the first time is never that easy despite what others say.
I’d be nervous going from Liverpool😊
@@johnbarrett3535 yes It's very confusing, after security we just hoped we were going to the right place, will know next time 👍
Great start of your Irish adventure. Will check out the next one to see what went wrong... Greetings and have a nice day! // Bertil.
Hi Bertil, yes great start until we left the ferry port 😮, have a lovely week
It’s been over 30 years since I last travelled by ferry to Ireland and next week I’m doing the driving for the first time. I’m very nervous so was pleased to come across your recording. Hope there’s someone offering me directions and they’re not having a comfort break!
We learnt our lesson, the M50 Toll road is busy and you pay online before or after your journey, thanks for watching 👍
It's funny, I wondered what those guys ('n gals) do when they need a 'natural break', as the Guinness Book of Records used to put it. My presumption (depending on the nature of their employer) was that they'd either radio up someone to relieve them, as it were, or that they would just have to dance an Irish jig, adopt a chimp grin, and sweat! Turns out though, at least on that route, it's barely an issue nowadays, if at all!
Hope you had a great time
Yes we had a wonderful time
Hey up, this popped up so watched, done the journey in June for my 8th adventure to Co Kerry, as I say 8 times now and I hate the ports, had 2 fines for not paying tolls even tho I did, if you go touring drive the Ring of Kerry, epic scenery, will look for updates 👍 enjoy 🙂
Yes it's been a long time since we did a ferry & did not have any instruction or lane number given to us so just hoped for the best, Big mistake after leaving port that's the next video 👍

@@andrew-karens-adventures can you do a video, going to the Isle of Man, with the car, on the ferry, from Liverpool and Heysham?
Mmmm 🤔 Not going to the Isle of Man, If I ever did I would probably video it 👍
@@andrew-karens-adventures cool! Be a nice place to visit :)
Was the security checks in Holyhead, to make sure you aren’t stealing any Welsh sheep? 🐑 😂😂😂
Yep they confiscated my wellies 🤣😂😂
@@andrew-karens-adventures 😂😂😂
Hi Andrew & Karen, hope you're well and ok, cheers Andy

@@andrew-karens-adventures I'm doing my best. Have you checked my plane channel out? Are you coming to their meet up next may bank hol. I booked the social club for them yesterday. It will be a good weekend 👍
Great video 👍
"Where it all went wrong" - 5/4 on, Port Tunnel?!
Yep I know now 😁
@@andrew-karens-adventures HaHa! Yeah, the rear~view mirror is a great thing (by which, of course, I mean hindsight.)
Fwiw, I watched Part 2 - Thanks for the tour of the Capital, lol! Turns out, if I'd~a' taken that bet I wouldn't have been buying any rounds of drinks -- but who knows, I might at least have gotten my stake money back! Y'see - or rather, as you know(!) - I was _kinda_ right, which is to say, I was _negatively_ correct, if that's a thing! The M50 (accessed via the Port Tunnel) was indeed the source of your problems, but SPOILER! 😁only insofar as you _didn't_ take it (So I suppose, really, it's a bit of a stretch to say I was _any_ kind of correct!) If you'd have taken the M50 you'd have probably saved yourselves a lot of grief, barring the usual accidents and breakdowns. Mind you, I will allow myself the observation that going around the M50 was, you might say, going "all around the houses" - literally. Nevertheless, pulling a caravan, the M50 was indeed the only sensible choice! Tolls are electronic anyway× (not sure how that works if you're a tourist - maybe you just 'get away with it? 🤷♂️ Probably not though, there's probably some kind of reciprocal arrangement, or something - hard to catch a break on _anything_ nowadays!)
Anyway, I enjoyed both videos very much, as an Irishman I'm interested to see your take on the place (I hope, and trust that that won't affect your _reportage,_ if that doesn't sound too full of myself! Strictly speaking, I'm ½ English, anyway, but having been born here I tend to go with 'Irish'...) Summing up, you seem like the kind of couple one would love to meet, the best of luck with your future travels.
×I believe there are still booths taking coin on the M7/M8 - but don't take that as gospel!
Can I note, it's NOT 'Southern Ireland'. There's no such country. It's the Republic of Ireland.
Fair enough, I removed Southern so now title is just Ireland - hope that's better don't want to upset people 👍
It's called Ireland
yes you are correct it is Republic of ireland or Northen Ireland depends which part you go too, But Republic of Ireland is independent from UK. Northern Ireland is not.
Thanks for correction 👍
I have a question, me and my brother are heading to Ireland to race at Mondello Park and I was wondering cause I’ve seen online that you don’t need a passport, did they ask you for one at any point? Also what did they check in the security checks? Thanks Wes
Hi thanks for the question, we have been to a few places since, so can't really remember all the things that happened. We did of course take our Passports with us as we were leaving the UK & entering a European country, at Holyhead after check in they looked in the caravan at security & checked gas was off, we did get asked a couple of questions at border control in Ireland but can't remember showing our passport there, on way back we just checked in went through security to ferry and drove straight off at Holyhead, hope this helps 👍
@@andrew-karens-adventures thank you very much for the reply, definitely helps I hope you had a great time
